Narendra Modi is India’s 14th prime minister and has been in power since May 2014. He is the first prime minister to have been born after Independence. Modi is a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and has served as Gujarat Chief Minister from 2001 to 2014. His Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi, though, is in Uttar Pradesh, and Modi has represented this seat since 2014.
Narendra Modi joined the RSS, the BJP’s ideological parent, in the 1970s and joined the BJP in 1987. The following year he was chosen as the party’s general secretary for Gujarat. Modi took oath as Gujarat CM in 2001, after replacing Keshubhai Patel, who was held responsible for the government’s poor response to the Bhuj earthquake. Modi contested his first-ever election in 2002, shortly after which the Gujarat riots fueled controversy over his leadership. The Supreme Court in 2022 gave a clean chit to Modi and 63 others in a plea exploring a larger conspiracy behind the riots.
Looks like a case of sour grapes. Lt Gen Prakash Menon Retd. does not have any qualms about veteran serving Arms lobbies, accepting doles like ambassadorships , agitating against govt on OROP , or in parroting stereotyped and biased narratives about a duly elected government. I wonder what would be his twist on traditional motto’s of various Army regiments ! By trying to remain relevant by raising such issues , isn’t he going against the ideal view of a soldier fading away.
I am a Modi Bhakt.
I do endorse your stand that retired military personnel should not attend in uniform.
I have no problem in them attending in civil clothes.
Ask the mil chiefs and they will all say that they place constitution over their faith. Would that be true of all politicians – particularly the ones like Akbaruddin Owaisi?
This is Leftist Mindset. All across the world military personnel practice their religion. Moreover what is wrong in retired Military personnel visiting the temple inauguration. using words like hoards of people with Ash smeared fore heads, Saffron clothing…. seems like showing Hindu religion in bad light !! Mr Menon If you are not interested its you own choice. You cannot dictate others !! JAI HIND !!
A noble idea with good intent, but a bit misplaced. Firstly, if it doesn’t bother Indians that a sitting PM attends this, then a retired Chief attending it is not a big deal. Much much smaller actually. A fauzi can never have more regard for values good for India than a PM. It just can’t happen. Both come from the same stock. Then, a retired officer really has no obligation to behave like a serving one. Finally, even service officers attend mandirs etc in units..
Dirty politics is in a sitting PM attending it and acting more like a pandit than a PM, not in retired people attending, from whichever walk of life.
