‘Mahamanav, warrior’ — how BJP leaders describe PM Modi for Covid effort as his govt faces flak

The glowing praise comes at a time when Modi govt is drawing criticism for becoming complacent during the let-up in the pandemic after the first wave.

New Delhi: A “warrior”, a leader whose “heart beats with the nation”, a “Mahamanav (superhuman)” and someone who has held the country together — this is how Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ministers and leaders are showering praises on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for handling the second Covid-19 wave.

This comes at a time when the Modi government is facing flak for becoming complacent during the let-up in the pandemic after the first wave. The period, say opposition leaders, should have been used to ensure adequate vaccine production and ramp up health infrastructure.

However, in the last couple of days, a number of BJP ministers took to Twitter and described how efforts were being made by the Modi government to provide relief to the people amid the pandemic.

The move came after PM Modi addressed the nation on 20 April as India battles a devastating second wave of Covid-19. The number of daily Covid cases in India hit a record high with over 3.14 lakh new infections being reported Thursday, pushing the total tally of cases to 1,59,30,965, according to the Union health ministry data.

What the ministers said

In a series of tweets after the address, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan described the PM in glowing terms, calling him a “warrior”.

“A leader whose heart beats with the nation & for it. Loss of even a single life is the nation’s loss! These are unprecedented times & Hon’ble PM Sh @narendramodi Ji rightfully calls for prudence & perseverance to tide over this wave of #COVID19 using science-backed strategies,” he posted on Twitter.

“While interacting with the doctors of #AIIMS across the country, I said that PM Mr. @narendramodi ji himself is working like a corona warrior. He is constantly engaged and working like a warrior in the battle against Corona. @PMOIndia # Unite2FightCorona,” he added.

The health minister didn’t stop there. While elaborating on the “largest” vaccination drive, Vardhan said: “#LargestVaccineDrive Another milestone in the fight against # COVID19! With the skilled leadership of PM Shri @narendramodi ji, the number of beneficiaries in the ongoing vaccination campaign in the country to reach beyond 13 crores is a major achievement for the country. Be afraid of corona, not the vaccine!”

“The country has fought against Corona with great force and patience so far. The credit goes to all the countrymen. Of course PM @narendramodi ji has given all the credit to the countrymen, but it is also true that Modi ji’s guidance is behind this power of public participation. @PMOIndia,” he added.

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad also highlighted how PM Modi has “held the country together”.

“During difficult times messages of PM @narendramodi have held the country together & motivated every citizen to fight the challenge. Today once again PM has called for maintaining COVID19 protocols & assured the country that all possible resources in this fight will be provided,” he tweeted after the speech.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar pointed out how PM Modi “raised national morale and motivated India”.

“Powerful call by PM @narendramodi on social discipline. As always, raised national morale and motivated India. Also characteristically gave practical suggestions to the youth. Follow protocols, stay safe. India will come through,” he said.

More glowing praise

But it wasn’t just the central ministers. A number of BJP leaders also sought to highlight how the Modi government has been working continuously to deal with the pandemic.

Party president J.P. Nadda said: “From meeting oxygen requirements to increasing medicines production, PM Modi ji’s govt is doing everything to deal with COVID. It is the result of our collective endurance that today we are better placed to fight this pandemic.”

He added: “Hon PM @narendramodi ji addressed the nation on the COVID 19 situation. From creating basic infrastructure for COVID to launching world’s largest vaccination program, PM Modi ji’s Govt has directed all its energy in saving lives & protecting the economy.”

But former minister and BJP MP Vijay Goel went a step ahead and termed PM Modi as a “mahamanav”, who dedicates his time round the clock to the welfare of the country.

  1. MODIJI mein toh aapke karname bachpan se sunta aara hun… aap to gyani hai, antaryami hai, shaktiman hai, budhiman hai, balki mein to kehta hun aap toh purush hi nahi…

  2. A man divided peace loving people in the lines of hatred, religion and cast. Boasting self image and puppet ministers want cling on their post by giving praise to their boss instead of upholding constitutional responsibility.

  3. Indain govt utterly failed in controlling the covid 19.
Daily succumbing their lives due to amid covid 19 and many of them are not reported yet.
Many people are now afraid of further death.
God only have to save Indians.

  4. Isn’t Harsh Vardhan the guy who had endorsed Coronil from Patanjali? So today he is endorsing
Modi! As regards Nadda, Goel and their ilk, their existence depends on Modi. Alone, they would be able to win the elections of a class Head Boy.

  5. Mahamanav or mouth ki saudagar it is people to decide as chamachas have lost their moral conscience.Covid warrior who gets elated looking at the massive crowds in Bengal .He allows the kumbh mela to happen well befor 12 years that is on the 11 year.He is unable to find to speed up vaccine production ,instead donates it to the world.he is the monh who sold humanity.

  6. This indicates that the BJP is full of sycophants. I am reminded of ‘Indira is India and India is Indira’ slogan during emergency. Then the Jansangh used to accuse Congressman of sycophancy. Now history is being repeated. The Central Government is full of non-performing and mediocre ministers. Sycophancy is the consequence of such a phenomenon. In the Nehru regime congressmen like Mahavir Tyagi used to have courage to criticise Nehru. In the Indira Gandhi regime, Chandrasekhar showed that courage. But this establishment is run by just two persons. All others are simply non-entities. The parent organisation, RSS was expected to monitor and regulate dictatorial tendencies. But it has miserably failed in this regard.

  7. High time BJP mandated a morning assembly session across the country, where citizens should come out and sing modi praises for atleast 30 mins.

Meanwhile, modijis new beard seems to have now reached the right length and gives him a nice aura. A halo, maybe digital and even if only in video coverage, can be a good next step.

  8. I think it is high time that these chamchas should stop praising Modi. He should have postponed Bengal elections and taken precautionary action 2 months back to avoid this disastrous situation. Kumb mela should be banned and providing vaccinations to public should increase by 10 folds. He had woken from his sleep very late and should take the responsibility of his mistakes and wrong decisions.

  9. Since coming to power Modi Government has faced many protests and flaks. De-monetization, Doklam, CAA, 370 & 35A, Rafael, surgical strike, Balakot, Farmers protests, Covid -I, Norther Border Issues and the continuing the issues of terrorism, each projected and expected to dent the image of the Government.
We had gotten used to a Government going through one crises after another over the previous ten years, which rattled the government every time with resignation and even jailing of Ministers. What is different now?
Looks like the growing trust that none of the situations faced by Modi Government were used to rob the taxpayer.
The electorate seem to be getting more and more convinced that a population centric administration is possible instead of a ruler centric one. That will be the strength which will see him through the Covid -II despite it being such an open ended issue to feast over by Media. THIS IS THE PRIMUM ON HONESTY>

    • ????yes how can Modi’s image be dented. He’s so great isn’t he, imagine after a -ve GDP, record high fuel prices, China capturing Indian land, 1.8lakh covid deaths and highest covid nos in the world, what fascinates me is Not how Bad Modi is, IT’s HOW DUMB YOU ARE!!!!

      • They are not dumb, they are quite devious. These “professional supporters” of Modi are paid by IT cell of BJP to post comments in support. All they do is abuse writers and blame others for everything without offering any other suggestions. They are pseudo nationalists who do not care for the country or country men but only for continuing RSS rule.
