Jantar Mantar 2.0 LIVE UPDATES: Dipke & two others released. What next for CJP?

All eyes are on the next step of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) as its founder Abhijeet Dipke and co-conveners Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das were released from detention by an executive magistrate court on Sunday.

The CJP had declared that the group and its members will attempt to reach Jantar Mantar.  

All India Students’ Association (AISA) president Neha Bora, who was also detained and later released, also had renewed her call for a protest. 

On Saturday, Ajinkya Shinde was given the mantle of leading the demonstration after Dipke, Ranka and Das were detained from their flight shortly after it landed at Delhi’s IGI airport.

Meanwhile, popular YouTuber Dhruv Rathee was also released from detention.

The call for Jantar Mantar 2.0 has come just a couple months after a massive movement over NEET-UG irregularities culminated in the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The CJP had issued a protest call for 10 October to demand the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar and rollback of SIR. On Friday, Delhi Police said permission for CJP’s protest had been denied as the “intimation was given in a very short span of time”.

The YouTuber comes out with a clip in which he mentions how he was detained ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar on Saturday.

11.27 am: Cops take note of video showing 4 men assaulting protester

The Delhi Police said that it has taken suo motu cognizance of a video showing four men allegedly assaulting a woman protester during Saturday’s protest. The video had drawn condemnation, with many alleging that the force had remained a mute spectator. “All four individuals involved have been identified and traced. Further legal action is underway in accordance with the law,” the police said in a post.

 

10.54 am: Dipke was conveyed about grandmother’s demise, say police

The Delhi Police comes out to deny an allegation that Abhijeet Dipke was not informed about death of his grandmother.

This was after the CJP founder’s family claimed that he was kept in the dark about the tragedy.

The information, the police said, was promptly conveyed to Dipke with due sensitivity. “He was also informed of the scheduled funeral time and offered all possible assistance to facilitate his travel to his hometown on humanitarian grounds. However, he denied to avail the same,” it said in a post on X.

Released from detention, CJP national spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka said that a press conference in the afternoon. “We will hold a press conference at 2 PM,” CJP national spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka told ANI.

10.13 am: Delhi police forced to release Dipke, says CJP

A jubilant Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) claims victory after the release of its three front-line leaders, saying that Delhi Police was forced to release Abhijeet Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das.

“Cockroaches never die,” it says in a post on X.

The executive magistrate court has released the detained CJP trio of Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka.

The message was shared by CJP’s legal affairs head Ratna Singh in a post on X.

09.47 am: YouTuber Dhruv Rathee released from detention

YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, who was detained by Delhi Police ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar, was released late Saturday night.

“He can be detained again, or further legal action might be taken if he tries to go to Jantar Mantar despite prohibitory orders,” a police source told news agency PTI.

Rathee was detained from his residence in Gurugram’s Sector 56 on Saturday as police stepped up security across the national capital to prevent protesters from reaching Jantar Mantar for a demonstration demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities related to the SIR.

08.55 am: Jantar Mantar turns fortress for the second consecutive day

Heavy security has been deployed at the protest hub of the national capital, as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has declared that it will come out again Sunday. Barricades have been put up at the Jantar Mantar.

08.00 am: CJP trio to be produced before executive magistrate

CJP’s legal affairs head Ratna Singh shared a post on social media, stating that Abhijeet Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das will be produced before the executive magistrate at Delhi Cantt police station at 9 am Sunday. She added that she would be present at the police station along with other advocates. The three CJP functionaries were detained by the Delhi Police on Saturday at the IGI Airport.
