Even if he believes that he is not a chor, I am sure he knows that he is deceitful. He does not believe in fulfilling his own promises, as his party president refers to promises as ‘chunavi jumlas’. Even anecdotal evidence tells us that the cronies (read businessmen who have been praising him or supporting him in direct/indirect ways) have benefitted. Otherwise, how does a near bankrupt firm get biggest of defence contracts, becomes a preferred partner for sophisticated production?
On economy, it is visible everywhere that people are not earning enough. Even if the new jobs have come, they are low paying jobs. Why are graduating engineer’s salary stuck in the range of INR 20K per month, when the cost of engineering education has been growing faster than wages. Why is a large part of employment is only temporary and contractual? Outside the IITs and older IIMs (or high-ranking institutes in other disciplines), the graduates or post graduates don’t find a job for months and years, why? Why is the capacity utilisation of industry stuck at around 75%? Why is the auto industry struggling? Why are farmers unhappy? Why is that the farmers were not supported even after the worst drought in decades during 2014 and 2015 monsoon season? What is the desperate need for formalising the economy and kill millions of jobs and businesses? Tax thievery by small businesses will be much less than the thievery by big businesses and the incentives (for many ‘noble’ causes) that are handed out (in most cases through lobbies)? Why are we investing in new power plants when the demand for power has not been growing (PLFs are stuck)? Every one knows that solar push has helped the Chinese manufacturers for sure, has not created manufacturing jobs in India. Why are public sector firms being forced to pay large dividend, when they should be investing for growth? Why is control of fiscal deficit so important at this stage of development? Why should we let prices deflate for farm sectors when we know that the farmers are struggling?
Why should an individual and the party in power be allowed to spend public money on self-promotion and not on programmes that reduce malnutrition among children? The sum on self-promotion last totaled was in excess of a billion dollar?
Why does the PM need an armoured BMW when the ordinary people don’t have a foot path to walk in most cities?
Modi does not bother to talk about these issues and talks about personal insults. He insults rest of the country all the time – by keeping quiet when his ministers abuse (in most cases in unprintable language)?
At least during the election, the man can reflect and look beyond himself and his need to stay in power – present us with an alternative view of life in India.

The NSSO report that has been kept away from the public domain estimates a loss of 47 million jobs between 2011 – 12 and now, a far cry from the promise to create two crore jobs a year, which contributed so much to rendering a decisive verdict.
