IIT Bombay student Sahil Wakode’s death has sparked a debate over caste and academic misconduct, but it also raises questions about the way society treats failure.

In this age of social media where every other day one hears of comeback stories of individuals from every generation be it the 80s or the 90s or the younger ones , it is the imperative that both students and parents do not put undue pressure upin themselves. The world is a place where competition and winning and losing are all part and parcel. Also, one cannot expect everyone to bear the same level of stress. It is an abject failure of the modern education system heavily derived from the Macaulay system that is causing havoc and is stale for this day and age. But such unfortunate incidents would keep happening because of personal tolerance to failures. But we definitely need to reduce the numbers of students killing themselves because they failed an exam.
You can’t just blame the society. Most of the pressure comes from parents themselves. There is a reason why Japan, South Korea and India have high student suicide rates.
I blame the parents as well, you might not realize but even your encouraging words can sound like external pressure to some kids.
Also the shame on these activists. They made it about caste and are trying to destroy a professor who could have happily taken a job outside India but he chose to teach us for a lower salary and these activists who have not done anything good for the society are trying to ruin him.
Then these same people will complain- why is there so much brain drain ? You are one of the reasons.
