Five-star prisons

Cartoonist Irfan takes a dig at the extradition proceedings against Vijay Mallya in a British court. After Mallya complained that there was “no natural light” and fresh air in Indian jails, the magistrate’s court at Westminster has asked the Indian government to provide a video of Barrack 12 at Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai in three weeks’ time.

Sweeping it under the rug

Mir Suhail, in News18, takes a swipe at the Supreme Court’s role in the controversy over the National Register of Citizens (NRC).  The apex court had set the roadmap for the entire process and Monday, when it emerged that 40 lakh people had been left out of the final draft, it said that the process would not stop but added that no coercive step should be taken against those not on the list.

Fishing in troubled waters

Satish Acharya, in Mail Today, has his take on the war of words between former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who said that her state is willing to accommodate those left out of the NRC draft.

Something better than nothing?

Cartoonist Manjul takes a dig at the Congress’ stand on the NRC. Many of the party’s leaders, including president Rahul Gandhi, have been playing up the fact that the entire exercise was initiated by a Congress government, while only finding fault with its implementation.

Missing in action

In all of the NRC controversy, cartoonist Sajith Kumar touches on the one aspect that has been entirely missing in the exercise — empathy.

Unleashing a storm

TRAI chairman R.S. Sharma challenging hackers on Twitter, who then used his Aadhaar number to reveal his personal details, continues to provide fodder for cartoonists. Here, Brainded India have their take on the row.
