PastForward is a deep research offering from ThePrint on issues from India’s modern history that continue to guide the present and determine the future. As William Faulkner famously said, “The past is never dead. It’s not even past.” Indians are now hungrier and curiouser to know what brought us to key issues of the day.
For now, this is available immediately to all ThePrint readers. Very soon PastForward will be among the premium offerings that go behind a paywall, only available to subscribers.
I hope the present Indian leadership is of the same mettle as Gen Sundarji. So far it seems we have been rather hesitant to even acknowledge that the intrusions have occurred – despite satellite photos circulating in the public domain and our troops having been killed claims their bid to reclaim Indian territory – let alone use force even though the chinese have clearly breached the 1993 agreement.
The blame must be on the late General K Sundarji. Had he not resisted and held his ground, it would not have taken 9 years to resolve the issue.
It would have been resolved immediately, in China’s favour!
Sundarji was the reason sumdorong chu is still in our area and not occupied by china
What a long feature about a non-event!
Is Modi govt really so stupid??……………after Modi did the Aug 5 Kashmir political gimmick…………what did he expect?? China & Pakistan will forget the disputed lands??
Both China and Pakistan annex lands belonging clearly to India and then start disputes..Why should India not annex Balochistan, Got Baltistan and then call it disputed?
Dreams ?? ???and fantasies ??
Great work of fiction to applaud the statesmanship of Rajeev Gandhi, who was mired in bofors dealing to satiate the appetite of his wife’s family, doing all sort of wheeling-dealings in HDW and yet had the vision to engage and impress the Chinese supremo-perhaps,corruption of massive scale, was a running common theme.
