Students these days are often told that there should be no use of artificial intelligence in completing their work. But I don’t think we should question whether students should use AI. Instead, we should be asking if students are using AI correctly.
Back when calculators were invented, teachers were worried that students would not learn arithmetic. When the internet was invented many people thought that books would become obsolete. What actually happened was that we found ways to use both calculators and the internet effectively. That is exactly what will happen with AI. We need to find ways to use AI effectively of avoiding it.
As a Class 9 student, I can say that AI can be very helpful in completing tasks. AI can explain topics in simple terms help with writing skills and answer questions when you cannot ask a teacher or friend. Artificial Intelligence can spark interest in topics and make you want to learn more. These are a few benefits of AI.
There is a big problem with this: Cheating. For example if someone uses AI to cheat on a test they might get a score now but later on, when no one is there to give them answers they might get lost in an area that should be easy.
Education is not about filling in bubbles. It is about being able to think for yourself and having the confidence that you can do it. That is why schools should not be against the use of AI. Instead, schools should teach students the way to use AI. For example, if a student tries to solve a problem on their own before looking at Artificial Intelligence to confirm their answer or try another approach it can help them of hurting them.
Teachers are the key to education. AI is a tool. Yes! AI can give us answers. But teachers can help us with confidence, experience and comfort to which no amount of technology can replace that.
The future will not be led by people who know how to search for knowledge. The future will be led by people who know how to think. Our responsibility, as students is to become wiser because AI will become smarter.
Instead of telling students what they should not do, we should teach them how to use AI responsibly. After all, it is not the technology that determines our future, but the way we choose to use it. We should use AI to support our learning, not to cheat. It should help us become better students, not help us avoid learning.
