India is a South Asian country with the largest population in the world. It is a growing economic and political power in the region, and is known for its linguistic, cultural, and geographic diversity. Its large population and vast history mark its economic and cultural importance.
Even though India has a long history, its current borders can be traced back to 1947, when the country gained independence from British rule. Today, India has 28 states and 8 union territories, and its capital is New Delhi. India is one of the most ethnically diverse countries in the world, and has many religions, sects, castes and tribes, as well as more than a dozen major and hundreds of minor linguistic groups.
The article brings out the mechanics of international relations, though incoherently, in the dynamic global environment that exist today. The one thing that is common to all relationships is that each Nation will do what is best for itself. All pacts, trade groups, treaties, partnerships, investments, loans, immigration and all other international relationships are guided by the same question “What is in it for me?”.
SO if Russia has dealings with Pakistan while it is in a partnership with India, it only means that obviously benefits Russia and Pakistan too. The US fo a long time had dealings with both Pakistan and India at the same time. India has trade relations with Russia, the USA and China going simultaneously. It ready to trade with Pakistan too if that country is ready even though they have an active border situation. It is a similar situation with China too – business as usual but with an active border. India has relationships with Israel and Iran running parallelly; there is nothing clandestine about it.
Tailpiece: I do not understand this issue of hyphenation. How many hyphens can you find in the relationships enumerated above?
Although Russia says its not hyphenating India with Pakistan, its actions does. It should understand that such pressure tactics won’t work with India. If Russia doesn’t act as a friend to India, it will well be on a downward path and India should not pay any heed to it.
Even if QUAD is to contain China, why Russia should be bothered? So much so, that it hates to call is “Indo-Pacific” in place of “Asia-Pacific”. So, it has problem with India’s rise, on to high pulpit. Either it is thinking that containing China is containing Russia-China-Pakistan alliance, or it is being used by China as mouthpiece to voice discomfort. QUAD has it’s own pitfalls, but Russia getting annoyed by it is beyond logic. India’s association with US is more of economic, people, technology. Can Russia offer these, or persuade it’s friend China to share it with India. So, convergence of India-US goals are obvious. Gone are the days when India used to sing “Sar pe lal topi Russy, phir bhi dil hai Hindustani”.
India need not get insecure of Russia Pak relationship. India offers more business potential than Pakistan.
