I doubt Beijing’s ego is hurt from aid refusal when there is so much self inflicted misery in India due to not taking all the help it can get. The scenes from Delhi on the front page of the New York Times hurts the ego of Indians who are set in the belief that India is the next superpower. But that is far away and the reality hurts ego.
