The 17-year-old was spotted near Ring Road by an auto-rickshaw driver, who then drove her to the Kashmere Gate Police Station.

The 13-yr-old was abducted, drugged & held captive in hotels. For 4 days, police say, she was raped by several ‘clients’, hotel managers & staff. 21 have been arrested.

Over 25 people allegedly raped the 13-year-old between 18 June and 22 June, all posing as visitors at three hotels. Police have arrested 21 so far.

They were hired ostensibly to perform at tilak ceremony 18 June. But, on their way, they were allegedly held captive & gangraped. Patna Police has arrested 1 person, & manhunt is on for others.

The case saw massive protests in 2020 after a French woman of Pakistani origin was attacked on 10 September 2020 while traveling with her three young children on the Sialkot-Lahore Motorway. It also led to new laws against rape in the country.

Mamata Banerjee built a politics of presence for women. But when it came to principle, that presence often rang hollow.

Accused filed a police complaint day before student filed own complaint, alleged she was invited for a party at a villa where the two accused drugged and sexually assaulted her.

Her death has brought back the memories of the horrific sexual assault women endured for months since violence broke out in May 2023, and re-traumatised a community.

The gangrape took place 18 January, and it came to the family’s notice when the mother saw her daughter drenched in blood.

Manipur Police first arrested the bail applicant, Ningombam Tomba Singh, in July 2023. He is the main accused in the 4 May 2023 Manipur gangrape.
