US President Donald Trump is an American businessman and politician affiliated with the Republican Party. He served as the 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2021 and was re-elected as the 47th president after winning the November 2024 election.
His first term was defined by a trade war with China, tense exchanges with North Korea, and his controversial push to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border to curb immigration.
At the start of his second term, Trump imposed tariffs on Canada and Mexico, straining relations with America’s closest neighbors despite the NAFTA and USMCA trade agreements. He also stirred controversy with his remarks about Panama’s control of its canal and his reported interest in purchasing Greenland from Denmark—a proposal widely dismissed by Danish officials.
Trump became the first U.S. president to be impeached twice and one of the few to lose a re-election bid before staging a political comeback. He began his career in the family real estate business, later becoming a real estate tycoon and reality TV host before entering politics in 2016. His presidency and post-presidency have been clouded by legal troubles, including multiple felony charges and civil cases. The most infamous controversy remains his alleged role in the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol by his supporters as Congress was certifying Joe Biden’s victory. In 2024, Trump survived an assassination attempt during a rally while he was campaigning for presidency.
A j!h@d sympathiser who wears on his sleeve a religious identity that strove for centuries to erase every other will never be acceptable as an “authentic” representation of Bharata, or India, modern or premodern. End of story.
Dear Vir Sanghvi, Just because Zohran is a proud Muslim, who has not forgotten his culture of Indian roots, it doesn’t make him an “authentic Indian”. He is the product of the open western culture with liberal leftist mindset. There may be many Indians like him in our country, but Zohran is not an “”authentic Indian”. Zohran Mamdani would be one of millions had he been working in Uganda, or South Africa or India or in any Muslim country. He reaped the benefits of the open culture USA democrats provided. It is to be noted that he told that there are no Muslims in Gujrat, that Kashmir is an occupied territory, he supports Hamas of the Palestine.
There was Rishi Sunak, before you went gaga over Mamdani. Vivek Ramaswamy didn’t convert either. Honestly, leftist bootlickers ar it again.
Excellent article. As an atheist PIO, I detest the “alliance” between the right wings of the two nations, and I am more than a little gleeful that the desis here who seemed so enthralled with Trump have met their comeuppance. Mamdani represents America’s present and definitely its future as a multi-racial, multi-ethnic society. Today, the forces opposing this are making a lot of noise and may even seem ascendant, but there is absolutely no way to unmelt the melting pot that is America.
What a bizzare assertion. How is someone like Zohran Mamdani “an authentic representation of modern India”? What about someone like Rishi Sunak? Mr. Sunak also did not convert to Christianity and nor does he downplay his Indian roots. In fact, Mr. Sunak’s wife is an Indian citizen, which, in my mind, gives him a stronger association with India than Mr. Mamdani, whose wife is of Syrian origin. In fact, the part that Mr. Sanghvi cleverly downplays, i.e., the policies and politics of Mr. Mamdani, is the one that we should be paying attention to the most. From what I have seen so far, Mr. Mamdani is just an Islamist in a suit. How he is representative of modern India in beyond me.
I am pretty certain at this point that any article by Vir Sangvi in Print is a massive waste of space. He has no insight to offer on anything of importance in our current affairs and I believe the only reason periodically an article by him only appears to massage his ego
Why would he convert? He is a Muslim, they don’t convert, they would rather convert others!
And no, he isn’t going to do anything to advance Indian interests – caring about this country won’t come naturally to him given his Communist ideology and religion. This combo is lethal and you hear him pride himself on his religion, never about India.
NY is welcome to keep him. He doesn’t represent modern Indians or any Indians for that matter.
