Keen to counter the negative perception about the RSS and its affiliates among Muslims, the minority wing of the Sangh is launching a unique campaign to enlist the support of the community for the NDA government.

The campaign by the Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM) comes close on the heels of the controversial comments of previous Vice-President Hamid Ansari that a sense of insecurity is creeping in among the Muslims in the country.

MRM will hold a day-long interaction with representatives from the Muslim community at Haryana Bhavan in Delhi on Tuesday. Sources said top clerics, ulemas and maulanas from across sects have been invited to this ‘open forum’.

Yaser Ali Jeelani, Delhi convener of MRM, said that Tuesday’s meeting hopes to create awareness among Muslims about policies the Narendra Modi government has launched for their betterment.

As part of its outreach plan, MRM will also send out pamphlets to mosques and madrasas before Friday’s namaz, requesting the community leaders to refrain from cow slaughter on Eid-ul-Zuha or Bakra Eid, said Jeelani. “We will try to make them aware of the adverse effects of beef consumption. Moreover, we are a country where we respect each other’s faith and sentiments,” added Jeelani.

Sources said that the RSS has come out in defence of the Modi government as the latter has drawn flak for being silent on the issue of ‘growing intolerance’ in the country.

With the latest exercise, the RSS aims to hit back at the opposition, which has accused the BJP of working solely for the benefit of the majority community, undermining the hopes and aspirations of Muslims.

“As part of our strategy, we will put across the point that under the Modi government, all religions will be treated equally. ‘Facilities for everyone, appeasement for none’, would be our mantra,” Jeelani said.
