Army chief M.M. Naravane’s insinuation that Kathmandu was protesting over the boundary issue on the behest of another country is insensitive, uncalled for, and deeply damaging for the two armies in which he holds the rank of General, India and Nepal. As honorary General of the Nepal Army, Naravane has undermined his own position, waded into a domain that is clearly non-military, and brought unnecessary stress on a relationship unique to the two armies. Especially because the seven Gorkha regiments in the Indian Army make up almost 40 battalions, and most of the soldiers are recruited from Nepal.

In speaking out of turn, Gen Naravane followed the unfortunate precedent that has been encouraged to flourish in the recent past — voluble military chiefs doubling as spokespersons.

India and Nepal not only have the most cordial and interwoven societal relations among sovereign countries, but also the deepest military relationship possible. No two armies are as closely interlinked as those of India and Nepal, and this incomparable time-tested bond has been placed under a strain by an utterance that is both avoidable and unmilitary.

Speaking at an online seminar organised by the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies Analyses on 15 May 2020, Gen Naravane said, “I don’t know what they are actually agitating about. There has never been any problem in this Corps in the past. There is a reason to believe that they might have raised this problem at the behest of someone else and that is very much a possibility.”

Forgetting Cariappa’s guidebook

The reciprocal appointment of Generals in both armies began with late Field Marshal (then Gen) K.M. Cariappa, when he assumed office as Chief of Army Staff (COAS) in 1950. The Royal Nepal Army conferred the honorary rank of General on him, and since then it has been followed as a gesture of respect and honour seldom seen between two sovereign armies. As COAS, Field Marshal Cariappa penned the last word on what is expected of an officer with his handbook on etiquette for gentleman cadets. It seems to have been misplaced, since this is possibly the first occasion when an Army chief has raised doubts about the political and diplomatic actions of Nepal.

It brings to mind one of the oft-repeated quotes of the inimitable, and legendary, Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. He joined 8 Gorkha Rifles after India was partitioned and his original Frontier Force battalion became part of the Pakistan Army. Sam Bahadur, as he came to be fondly called, left behind a treasure trove of quotes relevant for the nation and its Army. As a Gorkha, he would have been particularly dismayed by the current controversy as is clear from his very prescient observation: “The problem in India is that as soon as one of us is put in a position of power, he feels that he has the monopoly of the entire knowledge.”

Citizens of Nepal train and then take an oath to uphold the national security interests of India. And over the decades they have been living up to that oath, many times making the ultimate sacrifice. Army’s seven Gorkha regiments depict a closeness and confidence unparalleled today. The numbers drawing an Indian Army pension in Nepal is slowly nudging toward 130,000. So much so that Army officers posted in the Indian embassy in Nepal would be the highest number in a diplomatic mission, and include military medical staff, which is an apt testimony to the importance given to Nepali Gorkha soldiers and their families.

Indignation brought by an Army chief

Gen. Naravane has undermined the credibility of Nepal, which has given so much to India in terms of soldiers, service, and many a times sacrifices, too. Indians with deep-rooted family connections in Nepal see yet another needless controversy between the two countries. Even as the ire over the Madhesi agitation persists in Kathmandu and beyond, India’s meddlesome attitude toward Nepal is once again a point of heated discussion there.

Except this time, a first ever, the indignation is because of an Army officer, and a chief at that. No soldier, in India or in Nepal, believes that General Naravane’s inconsiderate remarks have not been instigated by someone within the Narendra Modi government.

That is indeed a harsh whisper to circulate, which once again brings to mind another gem from late Sam Bahadur when former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi asked him about military coup rumours. Mutual respect was of a different order then, and he quipped, “You mind your own business, I’ll mind mine. You kiss your own sweetheart, I’ll kiss mine. I don’t interfere politically, as long as nobody interferes with me in the Army.” Sam Bahadur would obviously dissect this episode very differently.

  1. even without Gurkhas Indian army will perfom well. We give jobs to Gurkhas. It is no way benefited by Nepal. In fact if India stops recriteing urkhas and recruits indian hindus , there will be more jobs for indians. Gurkhas are not invincible as projected.Nepal is not part of india. Any man who is 5 feet 8 inch tall and if trained in art of ware fare. India can stop recruiting gurkhas and select its own hindus

  2. Naravane knows the Indian Army better than Manvinder Singh.
That said, This is an inevitable out come of the sequence of events beginning since more than a decade ago.
The Nepal Army Chief is bound to obey the Nepali Government. The Nepali Government, like Pakistan’s, is a Chinese Proxy ever since Sonia Gandhi, Maunmohan and Sitaram Yechuri handed over Nepal to Communism (China) while aiding and abetting the destruction of the “Hindu” Monarchy by the Communists during the UPA 1 Parivar that loots together to stay together.
As a Chinese Proxy, the Nepal Government will seek to create as much difficulty for India as possible. Preventing India from setting up its access to Tibet as part of India’s defense from Nepal’s patron China, is one of them.
But that said, the Gurkhas have traditionally served various pay masters but owed their allegiance to the now defunct Nepal Monarchy in the same way that Highlanders from Scotland or Switzerland used to in Medieval Europe. So, how the Nepali Army and the Gurkhas who are mostly “Hindus” will respond when push comes to shove and Nepal declares war on China’s behalf is unpredictable as of now.

    • THERE WAS NO NEED FOR GEN NAVRANE TO MAKE POLITICAL COMMENTS.PM MUST CONVEY HIM ,NOT TO ISSUE POLITICAL STATEMENTS.CDS GEN RAWAT WAS ALLOWED TO ISSUE POLITICAL STATEMENTS– A NEGATIVE 5 DANGEROUS POLICY.PM MUST STOP THIS.UV SINGH.EX- DIR CAB SECTT.

  3. Comparing Sam Bahadar with Gen. Naravane is like comparing a world class Arabian stallion with a Gujraati Mule !!!! Sam Bahadar was perhaps not very wrong, when asked : How did India achieve spectacular victory in 1971 war………his honest answer: Because Sam Bahadar was on the side of the Indians !!!

  4. Have you forgotten about the role of Jayaprakash Narayan or JP, the father of ‘Total Revolution.’ During the heydays of protests against Indira Gandhi, after she had been unseated by the Allahabad High Court for corrupt practices, JP called out to the Indian Army and the police not to obey any illegal orders. Indira lost her sanity and suddenly clamped the Emergency, fearing the immediate collapse of her empire of evil. She jailed the entire opposition, gagged the press and all of them wilted like patented cowards that they were. Even the judiciary fell by the wayside, giving birth to the darkest chapter in the history of free India. After the lifting of the Emergency, George Fernandez called one of the tallest industrialists ‘A Rat,’ which formed a banner headline in the so called world’s largest selling daily. Compared to Indira’s wanton, diabolical acts, the present political dispensation is like the babe in the wood, fumbling to find its way. Today the Lutyens media, including the Print, the left liberals and the Congress foot soldiers are doing something far, far worse. They are openly provoking the Gorkha soldiers of the Indian Army to revolt, by driving the debate away from real issues and into dangerous emotional channels. If they cannot hold themselves back, then are they prepared to face the consequences which would be catastrophic for the whole nation? Anyone with an iota of sense can see how Nepal is behaving so irrationally. Is it feeling so terrorized by the presence of bullies from the Middle Kingdom that it is denying the Dragon’s brazen involvement in their internal politics. Why is the Gurkha sense of pride so easily smothered by the Chinese Juggernaut. The Army Chief is perfectly within his rights to point to the Beijing muscle flexing in the background? Please don’t act as subversives in the name of the freedom of press, which Indira had brutally mangled and you could do absolutely nothing for 18 months. REMEMBER THOSE WHO PLAY WITH FIRE ARE APT TO GET THEIR OWN HOUSES BURNT.

  5. U donkey writer…..why print media publishing your filthy article…..INDIA help Nepal like it’s brother but what Nepal is doing. …..Nepal is back stabbing India …..Indian army is more mature & responsible than any armies of the world…. General Narvane is 100% correct……from decades Nepal keep silent & said nothing & NOW as china promises investment in Nepal they back stab India…….India never have intention of territory expansion…..

  6. Useless comments as the general said nothing against hurting anyone’s sentiments. This author is motivated to make a mole into a mountain. Cheaply spreading provocative rumour. Shame if he is an indian

    • A mole into a mountain is totally correct in this context but, I think it is not like a mole too, rather an atom(chemistry).
He is an Indian, I’m not sure of this.
But, it is clearly written he is a Congress leader i.e., of that party which asks the military of proofs.

  7. Good work the Print. You angered a lot of Bhakts here in the comment section. Means you must’ve spoken the truth and done something right.

    • A ton of Pappu’s chamchas as well as the tukde-tukde gang clamor here for some airtime.
We should err on the side of caution when it comes to senseless words or comments from such pseudo-intellectuals.
Besides, the Print is mouthpiece of Congress party akin to Saamana of ShivSena.
Any Tom-Dick-Harry speaking against BJP can get any trashy Jibber-Jabber published in them.

  8. This article should find a place at a below average level. Did not think that an age old party (congress) people and leaders will go to such a low level of criticism. Are these people gone mad without power.

  9. This is a bullshit article as the writer, congress leader or not you should have some basic decency and not criticize your own army chief for a remark that is true the antics being played by Nepal are supported by China and he’s very right in saying so.

  10. Firstly, the `neighbour’ created an issue because some ‘inconsiderate neighbour’ decided to build an infrastructure in a land that was given to them for temporary use (while they were retreating from China after the defeat) to set up a camp to keep an eye on china’s impending attack. Note the key word ‘temporary’. The inconsiderate neighbour being greedy decided to pay the goodwill gesture of the kind neighbour by publishing a map and showing the ‘land’ as theirs (shamelessly of course). This resulted in a backlash and why would not it? You can’t just put a claim on land that is never yours to begin with.

Our Honourable Prime Minister was right in stating the fact that corona coming from india was more dangerous to Nepal than that coming from China and Italy. One because we have an open border and despite the lockdown, people from indian side are still sneaking in thus bringing the disease with them and contaminating the others in the process. China had/have more or less tamed theirs, Nepal’s aviation is completely halted meaning there is no chance of virus entering the country from West, leaving india the one and only cause for concern for bring the virus in Nepal. This is nothing but the truth. There is no benefit for you to be triggered. We were talking corona not tuberculosis or kala azar.

200 year old issue? Your history is what made you, my friend. Do not forget that. Treaty is made based on understanding- oonce signed you can just choose to undermine it at your will. And note If not for the British unifying what you know as india today, you would still be some princely state. So do you want your country to go back bring a princely state? If your country do not want to honour the Treaty of Sugauli, we can always claim our Greater Nepal.

Lastly our honourable PM asked modi if he changed the motto of india from satyamev jayate to singhmev jayate? No response so far? Has it really changed? Our honourable PM believes is satyamev jayate & so do we and truth, my friend, is in Nepal’s favour.

  11. I do not understand why India cannot shut the border claim once and for all by providing our evidence. It’s become more like a sas-bahu drama now. We need to counter their claim by providing evidence. I believe Nepal is only asking for a bilateral talk to solve this dispute – just do it!

    • Because all the evidence is in nepals favour. And india has infact illegally occupied its territory. So india is deliberately withholding from bialateral talks. And now indian media is spreading misinformation. China is one thing but india and our relation is so entangled and deep that it is very necessary to maintain good relationship. Why do you think nepal would risk such a move of it doesnt beleive that it is being treated unfairly by india?

  12. I do not understand why India cannot shut the border claim once and for all by providing the evidence. It’s become more like a sas-bahu drama now. We need to counter their claim by providing evidence. I believe Nepal is only asking for a bilateral talk to solve this dispute – just do it!

  13. Kindly send all these so called experts/specialists to the border with a rifle and defend the nation.
There are so many newspaper specialists on foreign policy and defence its mind boggling.
How can we listen to these cleaver people who sit on their armchairs and rattle away with so much of advice. Maybe these guys have military backgrounds or fought several armed conflicts in their career.
They will kill the nation from within before the enemy attacks this is what will come from disgruntled elements within the country. Their sympathies are subject to fear and doubts of their own defence forces.
Please speak with a unified voice to protect the country.

    • Your sentence is not complete. Allow me to correct a little bit.
Please speak with a unified voice accepting truth and evidence with justification to protect the country. Unified voice (shouting loud to neglecting truth) just to protect the country without truth and justification for evidence does not make sense.

  14. I think print and Tv media should keep silence in national security and defence matters.Lot of issues available .Gurkhas recruting in army since long history. Not only india but in some other country.political comments should not be given priority. We should keep good relation with nepal if any small misunderstandings should be settled amicable.

  15. Having access to the Internet doesn’t spare one from stupidity. This article is utter rubbish, probably cooked up by Sujewala. It is not Nepal. It is the Nepalease communists that are fomenting trouble at the border at the behest of the Chinese communists. The idiot writer Congress party writer tried with long winding essay of nothing to create trouble among two people’s who are one through hundreds of years societal and family relationships. Like in Russia, communists will be gone from China soon enough. So will Congress be from India and all will be well.

  16. Some more politically motivated trash by a rep of a political party weak in the knees, soft in the head and mainly responsible for the miserable state of our economy and poor inter community relations last 70 yrs.
If things are/were so hunky dory with Nepal, there would be no festering Indo-Nepal border issue – debited to the acct of Congress govts of yester year.
In no manner can the Chief’s comments be interpreted as slighting the soldiers in our Gurkha units. Very likely as COAS he as access to information this self styled expert does not.
Suggested The Print get itself a more objective commentator with analytical ability, devoid of petty political motives… or lose some of its readership..

  17. Print is anti-india as always and worst journalism. This is publication bias where you publish only when the article is having some anti-india sentiment. We should strongly reject Print and The Guardian type publishers

  18. This author must immediately undergo the surgical procedure for piles and fistula…if left untreated, he will keep on writing such idiotic stories

  19. Chinaa has influenced them by offering. Money.. And it is crystel clear everybody is after money. India has done a lot for Nepalies.. But it has gone in vein…. Can’t help it… Kalyug me baat baat pe betaab maa baap ko aankh dikhaayegaa… Nepaal is not exception.

    • I guess it is other way around too. China has influenced India by offering trade to supply Chinese products in India. You must see the India-China trade which is more than 80 billion US $ with trade deficit. I am not sure where you got this one way concept (‘India has done a lot for Nepali’), I bet it is other way around. Very strange way of logic. Because most of the Indians (not all) are brain washed by politics and media. Check few things as listed you will know the truth. Check the actual data and fact:

      1. With a big population, the supply of drinking water and for irrigation doesn’t seems to match at all so, India wants to have control on all the water resource
      2. Nepal’s Himalaya is giving free security for India’s security. If India need to deploy its army on Chinese border, India’s financial growth may not be able to deal with it which will make India poor from what you are now.
      3. Nepal probably in the top 5 in Indian economy to receive money from Nepal from Indian workers to send home remittance. Your economy is much more dependent on Nepal. You may not believe but check your data and google it.
      4. India can take control of natural resources which are there and India thinks they have sole rights. China and other third party should not come in between
      5. Make Nepal weak internationally and domestically so that India can play around in every aspect. Check S.D Muni, General Baksi and other others interview available in youtube
      6. Check Sugauli tready of 1816 that defines the border between Nepal-India and check map during that time. Not the one which is distorted at present. It is not logical to debate that accepting treaty of 1816 but cannot say we won’t accept the map of that time and only current map is valid.
(You might say what what Nepal is doing in 70 and more years with the distorted map, the world has to accept that Nepal got freedom lately and there was too much Indian influence to bring down govt every 9 -24 months. Check interview of your own Indian expert how India used to play around. This also dose not sound good that British ruled India for more than 200 years and all of sudden how can Indian ask to leave India. What Indian were doing for such a long time. It was only Gandhi, who got better education and worked for British. Let’s not talk on Gandhi. He is respected person.
      7. The development projects were never completed on time and the completion status is very poor. Majority of projects have probably 5 to 10% completion status that were suppose to complete some 15 years ago. You need to know like I said before. India wants to control resource and water and security not the development in Nepal
      8. long list to go… So, be optimistic and positive. Look into both sides and debate. Do not be like wild bull.

      • Your existence n culture will remain protected only if u become a partner of India else Chinese will run u over if u don’t stop licking their toes.

        • Vivek, It is other way around and you can see clearly how dependent India is on China. Look at the trade deal of more than 80 billion US $ with trade deficit. BTW, If China is over Nepal then India is not far away to become one of new province of China. See your own news and media where India stands in front of China. And, do not forget 1962. Only cheap people like you shout like brainless people without looking into fact and accepting truth. If you do not have courage to accept the truth, do not use hate words. This message is just a reply to show the mirror of your face.

If you really hate and afraid of China, go and check the trade deficit with China and ask Indian Govt. to stop trade if you are true Indian who cares of India. Otherwise, do not just bark with stupid words against any including your own Indian friends.

      • Ur 3rd comment is absolute foolish. There are 5 lakh Indian citizens working in Nepal. But there are more than 2 million nepali’s citizens in India. See economy india’s economy 2.94 trillion & Nepal’s economy is 29 billion India’s economy is 100 times larger than Nepal.

      • Ok. You have written so much. But actually india is your lifeline. Nepal can’t survive without indian goods, vegetables etc. You are using our ports, air space for trade. So india has given it to nepal from yrs without any objections.

And talking about immigration you are lying here to make some points in favour of you. There are nepali in every corner of india. They are work here form months. Even they live here permanently. As india is big country it’s not be possible that nepal have more indians than nepali in india. There are 2 million nepali living in india. And in winter season so much nepali come here to sell winter clothings.

And there is infulence of china you can’t deny. China has protected your govt. Your govt is total pro chinese. Nepal has suppressed the free tibet rally violently. You claim buddha was born in your country. But you don’t support the follower of buddha. You even supported china in hong kong which opposed by whole world except china and nepal. So shows china’s influence.

You are claiming a territory that that is strategic to india. For that reason india is against your country. If it would have in some other areas, there would be no conflict now.

China is friend of none. Their interest is only expansion. They have dispute with 18 countries including russia also which is considered to be an ally. India is a balancing power in the region against. If there would not be an india you would have under chinese occupation. So china is playing this card so that it can blame india.

If you want to cut all the diplomatic ties with india for a small land, then you should not use land of india for trade. If you will do backstabbing always then how can india allow you to use its land. Do us a favour just use air space over china, use their ports for trade. Why will india think about nepal’s interest always.

And claiming over certain land will not ensure that you will get it. You have to show historical facts with people’s choice in that area. those people call themselves as indian.

You have many options like UN, ICJ. You can go there with historical facts. So don’t blame india in every matter like your govt said corona is coming from India. Those people returning are your citizen. So if you can’t handle them don’t blame india.

Gorkha regiment when they join in Indian army their first responsibility is protecting indian interest. As india is giving bread and butter. Salute to those brave gorkhas who lost their lives serving india but it doesn’t mean that india will loose its strategic interest to please nepal.

You have killed indian citizens twice as of now. But india still didnt retaliate. So india has respected you more. But I have seen many nepalis are most arrogant people against indian.

Let’s do one thing cut off all the ties. Stop using each other’s land by any means for trade or travel. As both trade and backstabbing cant undergo simultaneously.

So now understand how much india is helping nepal. India can survive with nepal or with out nepal. If you will favour chinese then your trade should be from there side, your flight should land from their side, you should use their port. India can’t provide all these things if you will be a threat to indian security.

  20. The army chief need not have made this remark; its a political point, not a military one. By asking him to speak India has given this issue a needless military color. India and Nepal share special relations, cemented by their military ties, a common religion and other aspects. The political relations go through highs and lows, but the military relations should never be strained. Military chiefs need to think carefully about this sort of thing.

    • I agree 100% and it has to be like this. Politicians and diplomats should be enough to handle in case of Nepal-India relation.

  21. The fact that the author belongs to Congress, makes him ineligible to write on any matter of National Security. Except for an odd individual like Capt Amarinder Singh of Punjab, your loyalties lie on other side of the border, not this side. This is not only my perception, but of majority of the people in Security Forces I interact with. If you really want to serve Mother India, my humble request. Just keep quiet.

  22. Oh wow! The writer of this garbage article is a Congressi😝😝😝. This says it all. Guys! We all should stop wasting our time as we have better things to do. When his leader is devoid of logical thinking how can we expect this virtue from this guy!!! Haha.

  23. This is an absolute piece of CRAP written by Manvendra Singh, who has never been to the area of dispute in Ladakh nor he has ever served in the Army. He is just a substandard journalist who went into journalism as he could not clear any better career option Avenues. Either he is hard of hearing or his comprehension abilities has gone for a toss. Perfect example of mindless journalism where the journalist failed to understand whom the Army Chief is referring to. Gurkha rifles is an elite regiment with a glorious past. This statement by the Chief of Army has been made in context to China . Me commenting on his garbage is below my ethics, but still. This is a clear cut example of paid journalism and the author of this article and The Print is actually a bogus medium to garner everything that’s mindless. The nation is completely with our Army Chief and our Elite Gurkha regiment. We are proud of them both. Its time ppl should stop flipping through this bogus news bites where the author is a chronic attention seeker. Bogus news!

  24. Stupid writer. What a trash piece of artucle. The Print is always a nihilistic and depressive journalism. Government should ban such puppets of foreign countries. I strongly believe the print is being fubded by fireign parties.

  25. It’s seems the same tactics as China plays in name of their people’s emotions, but in actually citizens might even care of those stupid politics…., just another propaganda.
Those who closely observes communist tactics could understand it. Else people would get drifted with such soft power emotional influencing bullshit. Bare in mind communists don’t give a shit of the emotions of their people, they are interested to save their face and play blame game and plays victim card to remain in power. It is unfortunate that some of my countrymen believe it it.

  26. This cong leader Manvendra is trying to say #India should never disagree with #Nepal . Nepal can do things detrimental to our interest but our @adgpi chief should not respond because of his honory post in Nepal army. I commend Gen #Naravane . Jai Hind 🇮🇳

  27. Without going into the merits of the argument, it is unbecoming of you to publish an article by a congress functionary that criticises the nation’s army chief.

The army chief has the job of protecting the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while it is clear that congress is trying to undermine and weaken India’s forces for the sake of narrow political considerations.

  28. With this dirty and Anti India Article the author and the site have proved that they are Truly Dirty Doormats of all Anti Infia Agencies, China, Indian Khangress, Communists and “भारत के टुकड़े टुकड़े गैंग”

  29. Only traitors of India can write like this. Shame on you for the campaign against our armed forces. May be youalso support the stupidity of the Nepalese PM

  30. Nepal government who is trying to patronize China to gain in the form of free money. But nothing comes free in thia world especially from China.

  31. The Print showing it’s true colors again. You people never leave any chance to defame Indian Military. Very soon your propaganda will be busted by our very own military. This statement by this officer have nothing to do with Nepali citizens and Gorkha battalions but you people in media have fallen to this level of disgrace that you are ready to create headlines defaming our army.

  32. What are you trying to do? Inculcate timidity in Indian Army also, as though our timid political leadership is not enough? It is clear as day light that China is pulling strings in Nepal. One doesn’t need mirror to look at a wound on the palm! Stop writing such defeatist articles.

  33. He pointed towards the communist Nepali government not the Nepalis.Gurkha Regiment is one of the decorated and proud Regiment of Indian Army and we Indians our proud that we have fearless Gurkha soldiers.

  34. This is a foolish writer who thinks that general Naravane has questioned the faith of Gurkhas. He pointed towards the communist Nepali government not the Nepalis.Gurkha Regiment is one of the decorated and proud Regiment of Indian Army and we Indians our proud that we have fearless Gurkha soldiers. Love u Gurkhas..

    • Dude, he is a congressi. Why are you calling him foolish seperately? They have never ever supported Indian interest.

  35. LOL. The biggest joke is the author calling Sam Bahadur a Gorkha. He was a Parsi both from his father’s and mothers side. He is on about a rant how Gorkha sentiments are hurt whereas the fact is we Indians have nothing against the Nepali people. We have long historical and cultural ties. It is the communist party that is causing tension and to prove my point I would ask anyone disagreeing to just look up the detoriating relations between India and Nepal whenever the communists have been in power.
Wake up my Nepali brothers and sisters. Your people work here and indians work in Nepal. They always feel at home. We a re brother nations. Don’t forget how India has always been by your side in time of crisis . Please don’t fall for the chinese propaganda. Today they are claiming mount everest , tomorrow they will claim pokhra and Kathmandu. Dont belive me, go ask Sri Lanka, pakistan or Maldives.

    • I do not want to comment much. Just wonder why don’t you look your face in the mirror first. The whole world knows that India hates China but at the same time India is doing trade with China, more than 80 billion US dollar with trade deficit. This is just an example. There are no of other things to list. I guess Indian see China card only for others not for India and Indians. The whole world is laughing when you talk about China card for others which may not be in Indian media. Wake up guys! Stop making people laugh around you.

Regarding Nepal and India, there is a good relation in people to people level. I bet you if Gurkha Army is not there in Indian Army probably, the Indian history and present status would be different. You should know that there could be alternative for almost everything but not for neighbor and water (flowing from Nepal).

      • My friend, Nepal communist party workers wanted to hoist flag on Indian side , their own people living at the border area for generstions stopped them from doing so, because they understand the relations we people share .
Ofcourse this is politically motivated from some angle but not an issue that we can solve easily, Nepal also has border issues with China and after Covid can use China’s ports for it’s good as tourism has taken a hit , me having personally travelled to Nepal quite a few times have felt this growing feeling of pro China from a certain group , however at the grass route level people are very friendly towards India as we share the same culture .

Nepal also has to see it’s interests as a nation and only when the time is tough relationships are tested , else all is happy and jolly always .

        • There is not doubt that Nepal-India has special relationship and close to each other than any one else in the world. This is fact and need to accept by all. But, I think you are not correct that Nepal communist party workers wanted to hoist flag on Indian side, it is other way around and happening since 1962. Nepal-India border is defined by Sugauli treaty of 1816 and accepted by both. Please do not forget that there is not other treaty between Nepal-India to define border. That is the only one. Maps are there and they also have signed on that. So, my Indian friends need to accept the reality based on fact and evidence. You might show the current distorted map as a evidence which may change the whole course of treaty and make people laugh for the logic. When treaty is signed on 1816, maps should be of 1816 or around. And river around mountain does not change its source like in plain. This is fact. So, this needs to be sorted out for good relation of Nepal-India. One should not vow and shout ignoring the fact and evidence to save own country’s interest and should not blame to other. Otherwise, it is useless to say that Nepal-India has special relationship. We are saying we are very common in terms of everything and understand each other and at the same time some of Indian including media is saying China is playing. Laughable!!

I am sure no Indian wants if their own house or land is taken by other neighbor distorting the maps from Indian department of land resource. You will definitely speak with evidence and you may go to court and debate and discuss to find out the truth. And, I believe truth always win. Shouting for sake of patriotism ignoring the truth is the evil way where it may not end up peacefully and cannot be good neighbor by any means. So, stop blaming game and read the history and evidence and support the truth.

  36. This is a foolish writer who thinks that general Narvane has questioned the faith of Gurkas. He pointed towards the communist Nepali government not the Nepalis.Gurkha Regiment is one of the decorated and proud Regiment of Indian Army and we Indians our proud that we have fearless Gorkha soldiers.Love u Gorkhas..

  37. Misleading and brainless opinion by the author. The print should distant itself from publishing such opinions and articles.

  38. Even if it had not been said by him still Nepal would have bright this up because this unique relation between the two armies (and Nations) is not in China’s interest and they want it to end. The CCP will use all the influence it has in Nepal’s ruling party to undermine Nepal -India ties.

  39. If elder brother have 32 lakh and younger have 2 lakh and elder brother give 400 to younger then elder become more bigger and wealthy

  40. Worthless article .Totally biased. Without observing the true facts , author tried to impress upon us his own ideology. Print magazine should think twice before publish such type of articles. Otherwise , less people pay attention and internet to read.

  41. Unacceptable article in the time of crises that works follows. Everyone has a right to express his or her opinion. But the author is expressing China’s opinion. Gorkha have always been the pride for India. They are now integral part of India. We respect them. Nepal is certainly under influence of China as it’s government is saved by then and is heavily intervened at not only government but at making and breaking or political party as well. Such insensitive and irrilivant (because Indian Army chief never said anything about Gurkha even indirectly) comment clearly states that Indian security can be compromised if such, hopefully China funded, politition comes to power in India.

  42. They reqruits army from nepal???? And we Indians are joblessssss…. Yyyyy!!!!are we unfit for the job…..???or the seat are limited for us or maybe (maybe) we fall under general category
    ..Great going….

    • So, no doubt Indian govt is puppet of someone. Instead of recruiting their own people, they are recruiting Nepali Army. and making their own ppl jobless, distrusting on Indian citizen. Laughable right? Can you find out why Indian government became puppet since long? This is just a reply for your message.

  43. I think this article has been funded by the Chinese embassy. Otherwise any media channel who is Indian cannot publish such an irresponsible article towards India’s safety. These types of authors are like traitors living inside my country.

  44. Under present BJP government rule the defence/ army chiefs have become more bold and vocal. They are making statements which might be true or false but are certainly objectionable because they are overstepping the limits of authority. May be a beginning of military rule or dictatorship.

  45. Whether Nepali Gurkhas take offence or not but this article definitely ensure that they do and animosity is spread… Congrats to Print…

  46. Everyone who has written against the foolish author is praiseworthy and an intellectual. The reality is that only that the foolish author is mongering about friction between the two sides. Please be aware of such type of black ship.

  47. The author is biased & has prejudiced opinion. Print invite rotten writing with clear intent to malign govt face. This time over Army chief is simply not acceptable.
The author is immature in analysing army or govt strategy. His father too could not fare well in politics as well.
Shekhar Gupta has now become notorious for negative narratives.

  48. Mind you, the author is a Congress cadre. What more can you expect out of him? General Naravane has stated facts. He is within his limits by all means. The world understads the complicity between Nepal and China. Nepal is fast becoming a stooge of China.

  49. I support Gen Naravane. Nepal’s political scenario is changing, India respond or not Nepali politicians will distance themselves from India. They will ask for more sovereignty in future. So why we Care for them.let them be China’s Pakistan or China’s sri Lanka.
India must focus on self reliance and powerful economy. Let the time go….. they will come around.

    • Shrey, What do you mean by ‘They will ask for more Sovreignty”? Every country has to respect other country’s sovereignty. Being country does not mean that they have big sovereignty and small country mean small. Every country is equal in terms of sovereignty. If you are accepting for what you have said, probably India is less sovereign than China and other bigger country. You are making people laugh.

You said truth that Indian at least should focus on self reliance and powerful economy other than interfering other neighboring country. Regarding Lipulekh, let me tell you that you should read some history how Nepal lost 1/3 of territory with British and how the border were defined with Sugauli treaty in 1816 and see the maps carefully during treaty. Probably, you will have more idea to discuss and tell your other friends.

  50. Well, the author is a congress leader. No wonder why congress is in shit. They are full of people who want to spread hate. This is pure bullshit. The article needs to be taken down. I expect better from ThePrint

  51. I v stayed at Dharchula. People cross to Indian side, take a bus to barelli or tanakpur, again cross to Nepal. This is easier than travelling through Nepal. Labour come in morning and work in Indian side. Brides and grooms are from both sides. What oli is doing. And this persistent needling by China. They have spoiled relationship with neighbors in entire South East Asia, with Japan, and now manipulating pak, Sri Lanka, Maldives to go against India

  52. There is a tendency to undermine Army generals. Even an entry level journalist we know why Nepal is doing it. Army chief said so. China’s postering is not new. It tries to hobnob with India’s neighbours and forment trouble.
Writer is not clear what he wants to say

    • I guess you have no idea about diplomacy and you do not see the difference between diplomats and army. Army will come in-front and speak only when diplomacy line becomes weak. If you agree on expression of Indian Army General, then there is no doubt that your diplomats and diplomacy is world’s poorest diplomats and diplomacy in the world. Nepal-India is not in state of war and war between these two nations is far away from reality.

  53. Looks like you are also writing article at behest of someone else…or funded by someone else to criticise COAS. And pls don’t show symptoms of verbal diarrhoea

  54. Let’s be careful. There are 40,000 thousand Gurkha soldiers in Indian Army and may be there are 70,000 army pensioners from Nepal. Add lakh of Nepalese employed in public/private sector in India. Nepal has a huge stake in this country. If they are being guided by China, in the long run they run the risk of putting themselves in trouble as geographically, culturally and historically they are more vigorously linked to India than China.

  55. NEPAL IS OUR FRIEND. AND INDIA ALWAYS RESPECT NEPAL.
NEPALIES ARE IN INDIA LIVVING GOOD IN INDIA AND WE INDIANS LOVE THEM.
I DO NOT THINK THERE IS ANY PROBLEM WITH NEPAL .EVERY THING IS SOLVABLE .
MEDIA SHOULD NOT TRY TO DO UNDUE REPORTING ABOUT OUR RELATIONSHOP WITH NEPAL.

  56. Call spade a spade !
The author being from congress party, it is not surprising that he is indulging in such anti-India rhetoric. Congress had developed chronic habit of taking anti-India line as it’s only desperate policy. Shamelessly so.

  57. well, clearly this piece has rankled someone in the hierarchy, given the number of similar looking posts on the article. It is indeed disappointing that Army chiefs start commenting wrt foreign policy aspects. This kind of behavior is more suited to army of our pesky neighbor on the western border, but not a professional army like that of India.

It is expected that the officers maintain the professionalism and dignity of the post and leave foreign policy to the govt and the foreign service. Everyone has a different role to play and it’s best if they respect and appreciate that.

    • I 100% support your views and that is how it should be. Why most of the Indian thinks Gen. Naravan is correct? I still feel many Indian need better education other than like you.

I am not sure if the issue is 200 years old. But, definitely know that British ruled for more than 200 years. Don’t you think same thing is applicable at the time when India got independence? If the kind of ppl like Gopal Das were there during that time probably, India at present would still under British. Do not forget how East India Company treats Indians in past.

Gopal Das, you guys must be there around 1945 to 1947 to vow the same views of what you called illogical. I am sure Indian history would be different. 🙂

  58. ‘Mr. Manvendra singh’ aka ‘The Print’.
The more u try create animosity between Indians and common Nepalis, the more u r going to be shunned by the Indian Public.

Every word/statement you said, falsely implicated the General, who simply mentioned that Nepal Communist Gov is acting on Behalf of China.
Instead, Mr. Oli, of Nepal threatened India of dire consequences, instead of talking to the govt.
Mr. Manvendra singh aka ‘The Print’, you r trying to create a narrative to show India as an unresponsible aggressor.
This clearly shows your Anti-India stance, Very Clearly!
2ndly, whatever u hv mentioned here, nobody in India is going to buy it, neither the Gorkhas working with the Indian Army.
3rdly, Your very unresponsible way of making ‘A fuss out of Nothing’ is not going to go well with the people you are living with.
Remember, when the truth is going to come out and shine, you will be out in the middle, having to explain the people, why you always have everything against India.
The Print, its time, you have a lot to explain people here.

  59. Who is the writer of this article of ThePrint ??? Some uncle who sends across idiotic whatsapp analysis or some intern learning how to write without having subject knowledge! Whomsoever it is, simply a shame.

    • True the print as you know is a leftist leaner obviously they are pro communist hence the the mindless crap

    • Exactly! CoAS will never say or do things which vitate the atmosphere. Senior Generals with years & years of experience are extremely careful when they open their mouth. Its these dirty journalists who play spoil sport, shameless creatures..

    • More damaging are comments of congreds leaders which are always National intrest. We all understand what Nepal PM mean but still Congress leaders blame our selves…..typical slave mentality

  60. Shame on you Indians .If you’re saying Nepal is playing China card then what about your Trump card to rule South Asia?? J&k Indian boarder is saved by gorkha battalion so you got your freedom to speak .why don’t you ask your government to fence or build a wall between NEPAL AND INDIA boarder ??our Nepal army didn’t respond answer or he seems worthless to speak about your chief general statement because actions speak louder. All Indians government chiefs are speaking like politicians then what the politicians are doing there. Kalapani , lipulekh and limpiyadhura is our Nepal land we have enough evidence , proof and facts it’s not a funny joke as your TV anchors spread hate without ground report, it seems there are less educated people working in TV channels whose work is to divide the country and terrorise minority .

    • Hello bro,

I totally agree with your comments of the relationship between India and Nepal since a long time. Both the countries like brothers arm in arm. However, whatever is happening Will hamper our relationship through which the third nation will take advantage. And this effect the greatest ever bonding of brother nations which is as old and prestigious as no other nations in the Universe. As a citizen, let’s pledge to not harm anyone’s images and have a respect for each other

    • For seventy years, India hard always respected Nepal’s sovereignty. But will your new “master in the name of friend, i.e., China” respect your freedom even for 10 years? China is going your whole government. China cannot be anyone’s friend. And Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Various African and European countries and even the USA and we (India) had already suffered the severe consequences and betrayal of thinking China as our friend. So Nepal, please come out of the Chinese trap before is too late.

      • Do you think India is a good friend to their neighbor? No way! India is only concern with their security and very afraid of China. Do you mean to say :

if there is Indian influence, it is very good and if the influence is Chinese, it is very bad?

Check the trade figure between China and India. (more than 80 billion US dollar, are Indian stupid?)
What kind of logic is this. AFAIK, India never cares of neighbor other than their own security, control on neighbor’s foreign policy and resource. Let me tell you, India can(will) not take Nepal for their own sake. It is out of imagination. What India wants from Nepal is,
        1. Make Nepal weak internationally and domestically so that India can play around in every aspect.
        2. India can take control of natural resources which are there and India thinks they have sole rights. China and other third party should not come in between
        3. With a big population, the supply of drinking water and for irrigation doesn’t seems to match at all so, India wants to have control on all the water resource
        4. Nepal’s Himalaya is giving free security for India’s security. If India need to deploy its army on Chinese border, India’s financial growth may not be able to deal with it which will make India poor from what you are now.
        6. Nepal probably in the top 5 in Indian economy to receive money from Nepal from Indian workers to send home remittance.

    • Dearest brother from Nepal, I respect your sentiments, indian and Nepal are not just friend but blood brother, yes blood brothers, Nepal is pure Hindu country. But china is playing the card of divide n rule. Gorkha regiment is the respect, honour and pride of indian army. But india has never shown aggression towards any country. We are the largest army courageous bravest strongest, but we respect every one.

      • Why China is playing in Nepal not in India? Are you sure? Do not make the world laugh. I would say China is playing in India far better than in Nepal. Check your trade and trade deficit with China that is more than 80 billion US dollar. I would suggest you to check face in the mirror first. China is making you more dependent on them. Nepal is a small country and dependency would be very less compare to India. So, tell me who is playing where and why Indian keeps their mouth shut. Wake up guys!

    • You know nothing about teh internal politics of india. Stop commenting garbage. The chinese literally saved your communist party by directly interfering in your internal politics. What do you have to say about that? Then you stupid people will say that india interferes in your internal matter.

    • More Emotion, less logic, understanding, study, research or learning. Naam Amrit hai par ghol rahey ho Zeher. I was confused as to what pained me more ? The Nonsense Sponsored Article or your Response. It seems ISI and Commie Agenda is working overtime. People like you are just a pawn. The early you wake up the better or maybe you are being paid.

    • Shame on you Nepalis.
When China says that Mt. Everest (Sagarmatha_the pride of Nepal) is in Tibet, you people don’t have the courage to speak against China.
NEPAL HAS BECOME A PUPPET OF CHINA.
Becoz Chinese ambassador to Nepal saved the Communist govt.

      • Shame on you. Go and see your face in the mirror first. China had occupied many Indian land and stationed Chinese Army there, India is helpless. Pakistan had occupied and Indians are helpless. This has been happening since 1947 and 1962. Coward! British used to say “Indians and dogs are not allowed” and treat you like more than slave. You are still happy and good friend.

Comments can be anything but need to be true. What you have accused is false. I agree there is Chinese influence but what I have said here is 100% true. So, don’t come to debate and comment with cheap words.

    • Hard but true. Nepal communist govt was saved with money power by China. Whole world knows. So border issue raked by by Nepal govt at behest of China is also known. Wait for some time and truth will prevail out. If military chief of India said something, must got meaning, whether u like or not.

      • Ashish, probably, you might be partially true that there is Chinese influence. But you should never forget that Indian is growing up due to Chinese. Chinese is helping and making India grow even though there is trade deficit in India and China. It is hard but true. There is more than 80 billion US $ trade with China. Even Indian people want to stop, Indian govt will not. Because they became puppet of China. You may not agree on this because you do not have habit to look your face in the mirror. Check your news on India and China and trade deficit. True but Hard, right?

        • India had trade relations with China only to not interfere in South Asian Politics. If Chinese don’t abide then India cannot keep quiet. Everybody knows that KP Oli has been in Power because of China. The policies of Nepal vis- a- vis India are not the same as it was previously.

          • Your comment that India-China trade reason does not justify with what you are accusing Nepal. If you agree with India-China reason for trade, you have already seen what is happening in South Asian politics. Either you stop blaming stupid way or wake up and raise your voice to the Indian govt that China has violated the agreement and stop the trade if you are true Indian. I’m sure Indian govt. will not listen to your voice. Either of your sentences are clashing on each other. So, study the evidence, be realistic and support truth. Both side has to accept the truth. Showing Patriotism to override the truth and fact is the evil way.

    • Oh, what the Nepali PM said in his parliament made the Army give this statement. What the Nepali PM said have you read it? Grow up..!

    • You guys should read your facts correct. You are employed by india and dont make whole in the plate which serves you food. Relax and be practical, no one needs india we are good on our own.

    • Hold up. The comments by Indian General is on the Govt working in Nepal, not the army and definitely not the citizens of Nepal. Nobody hates anyone unless provoked to. That’s what happening in Nepalese Political circles and they’ve been setting up meetings with Chinese Ambassadors and envoys. Nepalese communist politicians want to sell Nepal to China and that is a fact.

      • Sundara, it used to be other way around before since many years. Search in YouTube

Speech of S. D. Muni on Importance of Nepal – India People to People Relations at IIC 5

When China is seen , it is different view but When Indian Govt. was acting same before what would you say?
Different from your comments, I would say India Govt. became Chinese puppet. you should never forget that Indian is growing up due to Chinese. Chinese is helping and making India grow even though there is trade deficit in India and China. It is hard but true. There is more than 80 billion US $ trade with China. Even Indian people want to stop, Indian govt will not. Because they became puppet of China. You may not agree on this because you do not have habit to look your face into the mirror. Check your news on India and China and trade deficit. True but Hard, right?

    • Idiots. You think we don’t understand what is going on between you Nepalese and China. You bootlick India for decades to improve your economy, and taking sides with China now. We will construct the roads, possibly inside your territory as well. What Will you do? Possibly what can you do? All small nations around India trying to test our patience. This is the limit… Don’t play with fire. This shithole author believes he can write anything against India.. let us not give anyone anymore chance

    • We’re not saying anything to disrespect the gurkhas and the people of nepal. Do read the comment of our COAS. We’re commenting on the actions of the communist government of nepal who’s seriously trying to disrupt the historic relations between India and Nepal with the background support from China.
Also the COAS was speaking in a defence seminar not in a press conference and he was right in what he said.

    • Bro this is an anti-national element author to make conflicts between two countries funded by Anti india and anti Hindu , let’s not read this tiwisted artical , jai mahakali

    • Ohh…trump card…. sweetheart…do you remember that hospitality our prime minister got when visiting USA….when trump visited us , we went a step ahead of them….this our way of treating guests …you cheap people won’t understand….and India’s Constitution has given right to speech to each and everyone so don’t tell our chief what say about or not….and don’t forget if your guys are working in our army they are getting paid … And probably more than any other job in your village (Nepal)

      • I am not sure if you are educated person who can read the facts. I believe Indian constitution has not given rights to prove wrong to right and speak whatever they have in mind without knowing the value of professionalism. Correct me if I am wrong-being eye doctor, he should not do surgery of bone. I guess Indian constitution do not give rights like this. These kind of discussion can leads to the never ending debate.

India has so many job less people, why do not recruit their own instead of Nepali. Either you are hiding the truth or do not have courage to face the truth. If Nepali Gurkha army are not helping Indian Army probably, you may not be able to proud as Indian citizen at present and your nationality would have been different. Search in google and in your history. The contribution from Nepal to save your Nation cannot compare by any means. See the current situation and realize who is protecting in Kashmir and Chinese border of India. If you are wise person, do some research and read the fact. So, wake up guys, know the truth. Apart from Gurkha army, the water you get for irrigation and drinking is coming from Nepal. Nepal is top 5 country that Indian is getting money as remittance from Indian worker working in Nepal and is contributing to Indian economy. I doubt how prosperous India can be if Indian govt has to spend 3 times of your security budget to protect India-China border if Nepal did not help in between. I wonder with your knowledge that India is doing trade with China more than 80 billion US $ with trade deficit and becoming Chinese dependent country (Chinese puppet). So, guys wake and see the truth. See the geography and history of Nepal-India treaty. There is only one treaty to define border of Nepal-India and study the maps and facts during the treaty. Patriotism ignoring the truth and fact is the evil way.

People of both countries are good friends with special relationship. And, some crappy people are ignoring the facts and truth and the good relationship to play around blaming different kind of non-sense card.

  61. Dear foolish author…there isn’t any rift among people of both nations nor within army, it’s a misunderstanding between two governments which will be dealt by talks…now just shut up and stop writing blunders and don’t ever dare in your career to question General of Indian army

  62. So here You are comparing 40 battalions, 70 year old battalion , more important than a 75 year old capable army? As a Congress leader You are thinking exactly as Pt. J NEHRU as he thought in 1962, and You want it to be repeated but sorry it won’t be repeated now.

  63. Without reaching the end of this piece it was obvious where it was going, what was intended and who was the author. No mention of insensitive and absurd remarks by Nepali PM,but remarks made by General made to look like insult to Nepali soldiers ,what a construed mentality these Congress people have, they are just trying to put words in people mouth.
They cannot provide solution for anything but their only obsession is to fan anti India feeling everywhere by any means but you Congress idiots can’t wedge a gap between Indians and Nepalis who have relations since time immemorial and we very well understand your agenda.

  64. Stupid author….Army chief is tslking about the present communist Government in Nepal. And not Nepalese people.

  65. Indian army chief said that about Communist party of Nepal, why are you brigning Gurkhas in this. If your proud of Gurkha Valour, Please help the 500,000 stranded Nepali workers in gulf waiting to go home. If you cant take them, please let us know. We will be glad to welcome them and give them land in Kashmir.
Communist party may think Nepalese are their property. That explains why you are silent while 400,000 girls get trafficked every year under your nose.

    • It’s disgusting how easy it’s is now a days to publish anything without proper facts.
Here what the general said is absolutely spot on and New Delhi has also suggested what P.m Oli is doing is at behest of someone else.
      Stupid writing !!!!

  66. Manabendra singh your father is still in Coma… don’t give him shock by your lack of understanding of geopolitics and immaturity in stating it’s sensitive, Napalese Army per say is was against Commies taking over their country. The present Chief is a statigist I trust him, not you

  67. This comment section showcases the utter ignorance of self-acclaimed Indian internet experts. You know nothing about what India has been doing in Nepal. You’ve been taking the pill your media and government is feeding you without a second thought, thus being in this illusion of self-righteousness. India supported the Maoist revolution, providing them with arms, ammunitions and monetary help at the same time imposing blockade and terminating supply of arms to Nepalese army to overthrow the king. Then, Durbar massacre by mobilizing RAW with the help of some internal gaddars. Then, the 12 point agreement signed in Delhi to bring (unwanted)democracy in Nepal. After that, India used the Maoist government of that time so that lakhs of Indian nationals could attain Nepali citizenship. Then, India stripped us of our Hindu country and imposed secularism. Almost all of the projects India is part of in Nepal are in India’s favour and most are just not completed even after decades. Even after all this, Nepalese people were cordial, then came the 2015 earthquake and Indian blockade, right after (only a very “good” neighbour would do that, isn’t it?). The motive of the blockade? To meddle in Nepal’s constitution! And, you ask why Nepal is acting the way it is right now? India is spreading communal hatred between Pahadiyas and Madheshis. We were silent even after all that. And, now army chief and media outlets of India say that Nepal is doing this at someone else’s behest! This is what has irked the majority of Nepalese. Most Nepalese don’t know or care anything about China. But, as a landlocked country, which has only two neighbours, what would you do if one of the neighbour whom you trusted and supported so much, imposed a blockade? It’s obvious, we had to look for an alternative. We Nepalese aren’t aligned to China, not in any way. We are well aware of China’s and India’s geopolitical interests, thus have taken a non-aligned policy. Till now Nepal has always been acting in India’s favour, what we have got from India for all that, I’ve already listed above. On top of all that, almost all of India is being so insensitive regarding this issue and bullying Nepal. This simply isn’t acceptable.

    • It was Congress who supported regime change in Nepal then and since then. It’s high time to bring Nepal back to it’s old Golden Glory of Hindu Rashtra

    • Your government is the problem here not people ; Nepal government is acting aggressively by printing a updated map of a disputed area that has existed for long time ,the area of 440 sq km is a crucial elevated area that allows Indian army to keep an eye on Chinese border.
We can’t compromise security our including your too in a way.
Your Oli government has a political motive behind this aggressive act and China is involved in the agitation or supporting this cause as it has so much to gain.

    • You have quoted all the events from history. There is no GK test going on here. This is a open argument about Army General’s statement about being right or wrong. Once again I reiterate to please have a look at Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. Civic rights are gone. Children’s future is in abeyance. Property and asset accumulated is of no value. All because their military power is destroyed. All Indian comment writers should avoid writing anything against Indian military. Now a days it has become a fashion in India to criticize Indiana military. Please think of their importance in our life. Foreign investment is coming to this country which is generating jobs is only because of one prime reason that is our powerful military.

    • Though I am Indian, I partially agree with your comments. Nepal needs careful handling since we have got the same cultural roots. You will agree that both have to act in a mature way. Now your point about COAS point, everybody in the international arena right now is fully convinced that Nepal is putting across this dispute at the critical time when China is in thick soup, it has lost its credibility. Nepalese communist government is trying to help them out to ensure that India does not side with anti-China forces at the global level.

    • Yes I know , we are from eastern India and we understands Nepal better then northern plains of India as our state is 10 % Nepali as well. We know Nepals history probably little more then many Nepali due to shared history from 7th century AD.
Yes I agree that India is deeply involved in Nepal in order to keep is influence but all that meddling is not necessarily conspiracy. In 1 sentence let me tell you.
“It is Nepal’s royal and political class which failed Nepal and whenever they fail Nepal they show India as the reason and sand bag ” a very convenient politics in Nepal.
Each time your irresponsible politicians brings a new revolution to alter Nepal’s course of action in order to control Nepal like a royalty, India rushes to get involved as a reaction to save geo political situation. All you remember is India’s post situation involvement . Which is an reaction not action. After the mess up , begins the favourite slogan India responsible for our situation a slogan which is very dear to Nepali political breed . As for RAW if your claim they are involved in everything in Nepal then either RAW knows it’s China or RAW it’s doing it itself @ either way it is wrong claim right?
Personally I have visited those areas of claim , yes I know what the villagers there feels about Nepal . We India whether pahadi or from plains love Nepal but not the Nepali political breed. Sorry !

    • Agree Ashar. Unfortunately we forget that Nepal and India are bind by the same umbilical cord. As every political party is scoring goals, on both sides, its the people connect which matters as well as addressing each others’ woes and taking care of that. Congress is scoring goals here but we all know what they did earlier. Communists in Nepal are scoring goals as they change sides over time. Its the people who suffers in reality. Personally, I have many Nepalese friends and we are one family to take care of each other. Hope, good sense prevails on both sides urgently.

  68. Dear Manvender,
You have no idea whom you are disrespecting. This person has earned his designation with sheer dedication. There is nothing like “it’s his subject or not”. He has all the right to comment as you are ready to digest undesirable politicians statements as per your convenience. Go and have a look at Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, coz when any military crumbles, value of your assets, cash and property becomes zero. Therefore, you should be thankful that your so called financial backing is driving your words which is purely relies on the fate of Indian military.

    • Sir you are saying that India involved with Nepal needlessly to bring communists to power by supporting them, I agree maybe Indians were involved sir but it was in the time of UPA, it the Congress government which is no less from a leftist party who wants to destroy Hindu culture in the name of secularism.Sir,we Indians were happy that Nepal is the only Hindu country in the world. But the so called Indian communists, liberals and leftists could not digest it and it was on their initiative that communists took power. Most of the communist of Nepal were educated in JNU which is a hub for communism which brain washes students to create new cadre. The Nepali communists in league with Indian communists and congress party which was in power brought communism in Nepal. The new BJP government which the people chose to save Hindu culture in 2014 was against the revolution in Nepal, by the time they got into power, Communists of Nepal were ready with constitution which is secular which Nepal doesn’t need. So please don’t see all Indians as One, there is a battle going on in India between left and conservatives .China doesn’t need to involve sir, all the maoists of the world have natural tendency to bend towards China, it’s like a second nature to them, thank you

  69. This is how congress salami slices India’s sovereignty. It is silly politicians like the author who establishes what the order should be. They act like the high priest giving advice to armies, how they should behave professionally etc. when these guys shoot their gutter mouth off everywhere uncontrolled. First go and decide what the party stands for. Remove forces in the party that are foreign and inimical to India’s core interests. They you can advice the army chief.
Your house is a mess and you have prescriptions for everyone. Jackass!!!!

  70. Somehow the print always writes the stories other way round and with a biased manner. Sadly, the morale of our own people suffers when you make them read this….

  71. Till the time his father Jaswant Singh was minister in NDA, he was staunch supporter of Indian army and of BJP point of view. When he was denied ticket , he jumped ship and now he is finding fault with Army and its view point..idiotic stand…

  72. Only an idiot & lackey of treacherous political party can write a piece like this. It is done with a malaise intent of targeting the Govt. It seems he is batting for the chinese like the traitor communists of india are doing.

  73. Who reads The Print if not for the click bait in web browser. Low quality analysis in lower quality journal.

  74. What sort of misinformation is this…. in the age of social media you are spreading lies.? Very low standard journalism.

  75. Unnecessary article on the chief of defence staff by a political person is not fair because you will never get any word from that person. Nepal is controlled by extremist Maoist communist government and India don’t trust Nepali Government.

  76. I see that lots of narcisstic personality disordered (so called middle and upper class) jokers are getting butt hurt by truth.

And doublethinks.! It’s pandemic in indian middle and upper class most of whom have developed into full blown narcissistic personality disordered man children.

  77. I don’t think India should compromise it’s own territorial integrity because of objections from Nepal. This would be like the Congress gov. whose foolish actions cost us POK & Askhai Chin .

Those Nepalese people joint Indian army because they want a Job , not because they Love India or whatever.

I think India should go on with the road construction. What’s the point of having a Tri Nation Junction if India doesn’t have access to it.

  78. Congress will do any trechery to bite mody. Nepal PM by calling that Indian virus is worst for Nepal has hurt centuries of our strong cultùral links. They are sitting on chinas lap . China will swollow nepal one day.

  79. It his duty to put any situation arising at the border in its perspective. He is a soldier and when asked he voiced his assessment. It such motivated articles by imbaciles that demoralize the troops and nothing else.

  80. India and Nepal will resolve matter peacefully sooner or latter, this is sure. We r not to harm any sentiments of either side by writing non sense articles for adding fuel to dispute, nepal has some concerns which will be addressed, next Gorkha regiment is one of the 22 regiments of Indian Army and all regiments together make strong indian army.
Lastly congress author is much interested in leg pulling of Indian govt & this behaviour of sonia Gandhi led congress will continue till next election and so on.. Lastly I support peace and harmony of both india & nepal..

  81. Why congis are critical of Indian army officers?

Why congis have ulterior motive towards Indian armed forces?
Why congis spread fake news in 2012 about force movement?
Why congis refused to pay rightful pay and allowances to SAM BAHADUR.?

Why the congis did not dare to take back the Indian land illgally occupied by China and Pakistan till they remain in power?

Why congis did not dare to protect the only HINDU NATION, NEPAL and her King Birendra ?

Why congis shutdown their eyes and mind on Nepal ,when slowly it was being drag by China?

May the writer of this article and printer like to answer these questions. Certainly not ,I am sure , reason’s are well known, which no way to write here? Until or other wise challenged.

    • Because the Congis are run by a leader who has Italian roots without any iota of doubt. Their Indian interests and allegiance should be questioned. Ask this question. Does any India born Indian hold a high position in any party in any other country? Why? Other countries do not offer this for a good reason. Congress does not have any home grown leaders. to play a constructive and effective opposition? Shameful. That is why Scindia , Rajesh Pilot and many other leaders are marginalized and frustrated. Birth place matters in the concept of nationality. Congress elites have to understand this basic stuff.

  82. Is the author mad or a Chinese pistol is placed on his temple.? What has Naming Or hinting at China got to do with the Gorkha regiments?
Oli is playing the emotional card and keeping the coveted Gorkha Regiments as pawns. The author should be ashamed of insinuating such nonsense theory and mixing up non related topics.

  83. How India could build a road to Holy Kailash hurting his Sanatan family of Nepal ? It seems another group of Kaurava has been born against Pandava after 5000 years.

  84. How can India build a road to Holy Kailash hurting his own Sanatan family in Nepal ? This whole scenario does not look different than what Kaurava did with Pandava in Mahabharata. And the result !

  85. Really amazed to see the analytical capabilities of the author of the article. The author it seems in the payroll of the country on which lap Nepal is sitting now. Nepal can’t survive without support of India. Most of the Nepalis find employment and education in India. None consider them to be non Indian. Now when the chief of army staff critical of the stupid move of the communist prime minister of Nepal, I am not able to fathom how he is criticized the Nepali soldiers.

      • People in this comment section are sick (including me). Their opinion doesn’t matter. They don’t know anything about anything. They will all die someday after living their meaningless life.
Have a nice day ahead !

  86. By what convoluted logic does the author think that criticizing Nepal’s government is equivalent to insulting Nepalese citizens?
Did not require me to reach the end of the article to figure out the author’s affiliations.
Don’t know which vote bank Congress is trying to appease by being critical of serving Army officers. This trait was for full public view when it created unnecessary controversy in 2012 over ‘suspicious movements of Army columns’ or the ultra seditious blow-up of the TSD unit of the Army.
    Shameless Congress.

  87. This is factually wrong. Gen. Naravane is NOT honorary General of Nepal Army. Not at all. Not all chiefs including Gen. JJ Singh was conferred the title. Immediate correction is required.

  88. Please see the interview on YouTube. No such undermining comments were made. In fact the COAS handled the tricky question posed to him rather well. Please do not twist the statements with an ulterior motive. It will be detrimental to the Country.

  89. For all those experts, here, saying that Nepal needs a lesson: Diplomacy isn’t a school debate, kids.

Nepali know that they’re no match for India. No need to rub that in. 56 inch ko kuj din ghar pe rakho.

  90. Shut off blady indian politicien and indian army.dont forget plus 10000 nepalis died in your boarder jammu kashmir.just for save your boarder..and just think why every neighbours country hate indian politicien and your indian country why why ???because they know well bad attitude off indian politicien and indian .you are blady non-sens

  91. Shekhar should seriously think about the quality of articles that are being published in The Print. If the sole purpose is to oppose Modi government anyhow, then it should better make its positions clear so that reader would not have misplaced expectations from it. People expect balanced and yet, critical but certainly not stupid and biased views.

  92. It was not Army chief but Nepalese PM who made grossly improper statements. Author of this article is trying to fool everyone without understanding who should be grateful to whom.

  93. Ah another rant by a depressed congressi. The main subject of the article here is that someone from Modi government is behind the Army chief statement. Obviously Indian army chief will speak for India and work with Modi govt. No one except congress expects him to speak for and work for the communist Nepal Oli government.

  94. China is applying all types of force i. e economic, Political , Military, Religious divide against India directly/indirectly non Stop systematically and achieving many of his objectives very easily as we are politically divided , economically weak, multi religion country with lots of immature media all together causing huge losses on China Front. Practically China is not loosing anything but gaining lot on their objectives. Unless we become economically and politically strong country, we may continue to suffer on China front. Let us make ourself strong first economically than other things will fall in place

  95. If the 40 battalions of 8 regiments are really so bothered about it – they can quit amd go back to Nepal. Nobody forced them to join the Indian Army and their service is not free or some great service to India when these same people would happily join British, Singapore or even Brunei’s military for money.

The chief of the Indian Army has every right to comment on a matter of India’s territorial integrity. What the Nepali Army General does is irrelevant as it is inconsequential. There is nothing political about the territorial integrity of India or India’s historical and ancestral access to Mt. Kailash.

  96. Army chief commenting on the PM of a neighboring country is like a Cardiac Surgeon getting ready to do an operation involving brain surgery. Dangerous for the patient! Both Neuro Surgeon and Cardiac surgeon are highly specialized jobs and it’s best if they stick to their specialization.

In this case it’s the External Affairs minister or someone from his ministry who should’ve stepped forward to comment. The Army Chief should respect his position and focus on the job at hand.

    • Great analogy!
Other posters on this article are missing the point completely. They should answer if they would be ok with one of these surgeons doing the job of another? If not, what are they complaining about?

  97. Dont write just for sake of wrting, do u even realize criticising Army will lead to its defame and deterioration of its honour in common men mind, u r insulting Indian Army………
And how is dis possible u only saw this comment of Army Cheif…. and dont know anything about International relations…. what China is doing in Nepal, wht Nepal is doing……..
Common man u r a leader of India’s oldest party atleast hold some ground and honour for your party, if u dont have any for your own…..
    Chiii jst a chiii
@ThePrint u people have full editorial team, how does u ppl allow such notes to be published……..

    • ‘Chinese influence in Nepal’ is what Indian media has put on your brain, far away from reality.
what would you do if Nepal is right on this matter? what if your nation is wrong with the matter?

  98. The difference between this government and others is that its seldom gets browbeaten. There is no unnecessary tendency to please people or nations. This is the reason that problems which keep simmering during Congress governments comes to the fore. We have unnecessarily made neighbouring nations behave like sulking kids
. Look at nepal for instance, No Visa problem to enter india, employment opportunities, respect for it as a country with similar culture practises. Time to relook all of these and be firm with nepal. Iam anguished to see abuses thrown at us by Nepalese people. Yehi din dekhna baki tha.

    • I am a Nepali citizen. I request yo to convince your government for the following
      – To abrogate 1950 Treaty
      – To stop free movement of people (Indians take away $3 Billion in remittance from Nepal, the Nepalis only take away $1 Billion from India. This will save $2 Billion for Nepal.
      – Take away enrollment of Nepali citizens in Indian Army. It will help us Nepalis have more self-respect and we will not have to side with India in wars as earlier because our own brothers fought for India on all wars and thousands lost their lives.
      – Restrict flow of Nepali goods in Indian market, Nepal has a trade deficit of – $10 Billion with India. If the free flow of goods is stopped, Nepal can step up in agricultural production, setup factories with assistance of “friendly” countries.
      – Employing Nepalis in India, there are more Indians in Nepal than Nepalis in India.
      – Stop Indian Investment, that’s there only on paper. There are projects “Occupied” by Indian agencies and companies which have been pending sine decades. This way we can assign those projects to countries that are willing to work and complete projects.

Additionally I propose scrapping of all other treaties relating to water sharing , Nepal gets inundated and flooded in monsoon and gets not benefits while Bihar and UP gets irrigation, power and prosperity through increased agricultural output.

Doing all this would mean Nepal would finally free itself from crutches of Indian Imperialism, will put us on path of self-reliance. We have a vibrant and patriotic diaspora worldwide as well as network of friendly nations that will help us overcome any issues. Before you lecture us on China taking us over, don’t worry we have been ab independent and sovereign nations while you were colonized by India and China was ruled by Japan.

This will help Nepal save at least $10 billion that we can utilize to save employ our workforce at home, I wonder what will happen to jobs/business of about 30 lakh Indians making their livelihood in Nepal. Moreover 85% of Nepali importa are from India, I wonder who will they sell in such lop-sided terms as Nepal . There are hardly about 5 lakh Nepalis working in India, majority of our unskilled workforce is in Malaysia, UAE, Qatar, Saudi, Kuwait, Korea, Japan etc. These expats must be about 50 lakhs overall , with about 5 lakhs being PR (or equivalent) holders of Canada, US , UK, Australia, Japan.

Doing all this would mean Nepalis can stand upto Indian bullying and free the lands encroached by India (72 places as per latest count). We will not have to be dictated while drafting our Constitution or electing our leaders or being forced to provide citizenship to Indians. Our goverments can focus on investing in higher education (almost a lakh Nepalis studying in India, I wonder what will happen to economic health of those institutions and job holders there though) and health sector, it will save thousands of crores rupees from draining into India.

This will also be good for India because it will realize that just because people have Mongolian features (you racists call them chinkies) does not mean they are from Nepal, India has about 5 crore people with such features hailing from 7 states of North-East, Bengal, Laddakh, Uttarakhand, Himachal. Nepali is official language of Sikkim and Gorkhaland, you will learn that too. Almost all of your momowalas come from Sikkim/Darjeeling FYI

I do not have direct access to my PM KP Oli (he is Indian stooge anyways) , if you have access to Indian PM Modi, please have him fulfill your demands. Nepal will be forever grateful to you.

      Regards,
Chaukidar, Kancha, Waiter, Momowala, Bahadur, Gurkha

      • Good reply. These educated indian retards are out of control. They hardly know anything but they brandish their fakery college or school certificate everywhere and terrorize everybody with their sheer stupidity.

Ps: I am from Bihar and that’s another place that needs freedom from central racist attitude. Gujarat is as beggar state as Bihar but gujjs get to claim that they are “shining” . Doublethink is out of control in india

      • So basically you want Nepal to cut diplomatic ties with India and establish better relation with “friendly” Nations like China.

But Small Mountain Nations like Nepal may not have the resources to sustain their own population so they have a trade deficit with India . Cutting imports from India will only mean more Imports from China.

As Indians we have done a lot for you Nepalese people . Indians have provided so many jobs to Nepalese in our Gorkha regiments so much so that Nepalese get more pension than Indians for their service in our regiment. And the Indian army has alway provided a helping hand to Nepal during national calamities .Your free trade routes have been used by our enemies to smuggle in drugs and fake currencies.

Nepal is a liability our open trade routes have posed a national security concern for India . We have let you use our Ports and roads for transport for the last 70 years and now you people take sides with China.

India controls the Tri Nation Junction and what stupidity makes you people think that the road to that Tri survive junction belongs to Nepal. Then what’s the point of controling the Tri service junction any ways.

And China which has Annexed Tibet , Hong Kong , Spratly Islands of South China Sea and claims Taiwan , Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh . Next day they will also claim Nepal for your ” mongoloid ” features . They have also started promoting Mandarin in Nepal that makes every thing clear. Your communist nation will eventually have to submit to China like Tibet if you remain hostile towards India.

A country which was without any National Map for the last 70 years is slowly encroaching into the India territory. This will not be tolerated any more.

        • Just a simple reply: if they take control on Nepal, they are not far away to take over India too. Go and read the history and see the old maps. You won’t see India as Nation but you will see Nepal there. Regarding your comment, India is providing jobs, are you sure you want to make the whole world laugh. Check Nepal position and figure that Indian worker sends remittance to India from Nepal (I guess Nepal is on top 5 position that Indian workers contributed to Indian Economy). And you have mentioned about Nepali Gurkha’s Army, I would say your identify might have changed to either Pakistani or Chinese if Nepali Gurkha’s Army are not there in your force. Let me tell you that the water you drink is coming from Nepal. I am sure you must be aware that there could be alternative for everything in the world but not for water. For the irrigation and drinking, the source is Nepal. Your existence is there because Nepal is helping with all means you which you cannot compare with anything. Try your luck Indian people and think how you would survive if what Nepal controls on what I said.

          • Good logic given by you but will be wrong to say India is an exploiter. Am pretty sure you don’t want the Chinese method of development. The project will be completed but your freedom will be gone and debt ratio of the country will increase. In today’s geopolitical scenario every country is running after their own interest including Nepal. Leaving the theatrics apart even Nepal is using the India card for years from the security point of view. Let’s not be fooled by thinking that only India is benefitting from Nepal.

      • Those are very good points, as an indian it pains to see Nepal India fighting over politics. Hope things will be back to normal soon , but its worrying how nepal has big trade deficit with India and China. Self reliance wont come by blocking trade, Nepal needs to vote for politicians with a report card. Same goes for India

      • Are you willing to be chinese satellite state?
Bu you are not Nepali I can sense it from your writing approch. You must be backstabber china sympathizer commie from India.

  99. I do not agree with the author in the current geopolitical situation of Nepal. Historically, Nepal’s economy is dependent on India along with socio cultural relaftion. But, at present after a pro China communist part led government, Nepal bagan to defy this relation. Regarding defence sector, we can consider the participation of Gorkhas may be alike the outsourceing of the Indian army which is also done by the UK govt. Or in the present context, alike the outsourceing of the US software companies. It does not imply that India govt will not express there view by Army Chief to it’s Nepali counter part unless we are coward especially about the covind virus comments of Nepali PM which is very derogatory to our nation.

  100. Don’t we have a Ministry of External Affairs to comment on issues concerning our relationship with other countries? Or is it shut down? Can’t even remember the name of Minister in charge!

  101. The same Congress that the writer represents refused to pay Sam, his rightful pay & allowances until The Supreme Commander, Bharat Ratna Dr APJ Abdul Kalam intervened, towards the fag end of Sam’s life. Also, had Nehru allowed Both Kariappa & IAF to do their duties in 1947-48 and 1962 respectively, neither POK, Aksaichin Nor Annexation of Tibet would have taken place. Evil Congressis should stop quoting Psalms to the present dispensation

  102. By posting this article u have added some fuel only to your imaginery fire. One should restrain writing on sensitive issues which undermines Army

    • you represent height of India…
Only question is what would you do if Nepal is right on this matter? what if your nation is wrong with the matter?

  103. Armed Forces are not like chained dogs, let loose by saying SHOOO, this idiot has the guts to say what he says about the Army Chief, himself licking the foreigner’s boots. Good that Gen. Narwane has put across the view that he has. How can Nepali Gurkhas be trusted in operations? Quoting Cariappa and others is out of place, the world has passed on to another era.

  104. What does the Congress leader expect from the COAS of Indian Army other than this apolitical and very diplomatic reaction under the circumstances of this nature ? How this remark affect the Gurkha soldiers in Indian Army ?

  105. When a small neighbour acts willfully without any strategy why blame our general? The author seems to be smoking weed and cannot see ground reality of is a paid chinese loving communist.

  106. I can not understand what is objectionable in what the General said.
Please read what you quote ““I don’t know what they are actually agitating about. There has never been any problem in this Corps in the past
. There is a reason to believe that they might have raised this problem at the behest of someone else and that is very much a possibility.”
By criticizing Oli he is not attacking our Gorkha soldiers.
There is nothing negative about them or Nepalis in this statement
In fact Oli is attacking “India” again and again.

  107. It is only after the NDA government coming to power that the Military has started giving politically loaded statements. Military must leave such statements to the Indian Diplomats & perform their designated function without creating a diplomatic nightmare.

  108. I genuinely think that the writer of this article forgot one basic thing, the COAS gave this comment in a seminar organised by Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies Analyses and as far as I know being a defense aspirant and an analyst too it was a seminar organised for our defence forces and it’s natural that any general will say this because of the changing times. The statement made by the COAS was not a political one but a mere observation that we’re seeing nowadays on a large scale by the Nepalese government, mind you not the Nepalese army but the government with the support of China.
The releasing of new map by the government of nepal claiming the regions of India is an example of the mistakes being done by the communist government of Nepal because of the backing of PRC. And as far as I know the relations between the Nepalese army and the Indian Army are still white cordial and will remain so in the coming times.

Also because the author is a Congress leader he should remember that his so called politicization of the armed forces which according to him is happening nowadays was in fact started by Pt. Nehru himself when he and the former defence minister of India VK Menon gave promotions to an undeserving general BM Kaul, because of his family relations with Pt. Nehru. The trio was actually responsible for the defeat of India in Sino-Indian conflict of 1962. To promote his favorite general, former PM even sidelined the most senior and deserving officers of the Indian Army at that time such as COAS General KS Thimayya. I think the writer of this article needs to learn much more about the Indian Military History.

  109. Dear sir,
It’s a matter of concern as what led to a tiny country like Nepal who never had any issue with regard to some area which has been part of India since ages suddenly woke up and claim that area.It clearly shows she is acting funny on the behest of another nation which the COAS has rightfully stated and there is nothing wrong in his statement.Congress always makes an issue out of non-issue.Shameful

  110. Ha ha.
Typical congress attitude of being a doormat when ever any of our people stand up for the country against any foreign country. The writer would love us to be a slave. He is conveniently overlooking the fact that china is doing a concentrated attack on India from all sides. Calling a spade a spade by the Army chief is totally correct and a befitting reply to the uncalled statement of PM of Nepal about the border issue and the downright cheap comments on the corana virus of India is worse than the virus from China.
Therefore, the writer needs to brush up his knowledge and integrity rather than his English and egarness to please everything foreign.

    • Comment come from pm of Nepal so answer must come from pm or any minister from India. Since millitary of both country have coordial relationship and gorakha make a part of Nepali Army. Indian army chief must not say. It put bad precedent.

  111. Seriously?? General Naravane has stated the facts which no one can deny! The current prime minister of Nepal is a Maoist and speaking as a proxy for His Masters Voice. It is the Nepali PM who should have thought twice about saying what he said. Yes Nepal and Bharat habe a long and very deep relationship which cuts across religion, culture, trade, free movement of labour, and ofcourse are Armies. And their PM should have respected and recognised this and not go by his outdated allegiance to an outdated philosophy. The very fact that he chose to ignore the relationship was deliberate and instigated and therefore needed to be called out and reprimanded.

The Gorkhas in the Bhartiya Army know the truth and despite political issues, there has been no let in recruitment and volunteers from Nepal. But unfortunately the Congress Party and it’s members like you have always been weak, indecisive and have always pussyfooted around contentious issues. Calling a spade a spade is what is required today

    • I guess all the Indians need to see this Indian news and interview with the Indian scholars and Foreign Expert on South Asia to understand what is happening between Nepal-India. How Indian Government is handling this. Try to analyze and see with a neutral person without being in favor neither Nepal or India.

      Rajneeti : नेपाल में भारत के खिलाफ गुस्सा क्यों?
      https://youtu.be/KmZEZA3fV_k

Raise voice against any brutality and be a good human for the world peace.

  112. This is the problem,a neighbor decides to create an issue but our army chief has to be considerate? How about Nepali being considerate? We must stop this practice of Nepali in Indian army, instead turn these regiments into all India recruitment.we have enough joblessness ad we pay pension to a foreign economy that wants to be buddies with an enemy nation

    • First insensitive comment by Nepal’s PM, one his Corona Virus remark, second raking up an 200 years old issue illogically claiming a part of India’s land. Gen. Naravan is 100% correct. Nothing to do with it if Gurkha sentiment is hurt. Truth is always bitter.

      • Wht abt freedom of speech my dear frnd. He may be wrong for you. But you are not only person to whom he will shut his mouth. All indian must speak out if something is going wrong against the country’s interest.

      • Agree with you..how dare a prime minister of a country claim our piece of land. Army is meant to defend our border. And General has acted upon to defend the indian teritory.. Salute to him.

      • I am not sure if the issue is 200 years old.

I agree that people of the world needs to speak out for justice.
There is not doubt that Nepal-India has special relationship and close to each other than any one else in the world.

I am not sure if you are educated person who can read the facts. I believe Indian constitution has not given rights to prove wrong to right and speak whatever they have in mind without knowing the value of professionalism. Correct me if I am wrong-being eye doctor, he should not do surgery of bone. I guess Indian constitution do not give rights like this. These kind of discussion can leads to the never ending debate.India has so many job less people, why do not recruit their own instead of Nepali. I doubt how prosperous India can be if Indian
govt has to spend 3 times of your security budget to protect India-China border if Nepal did not help in between.
