The best cartoons of the day, chosen by editors at ThePrint.

The selected cartoons appeared first in other publications, either in print or online, or on social media, and are credited appropriately.

With Karnataka going to vote today, cartoons also deal with the theme of elections. In the lead cartoon, Sandeep Adhwaryu in The Times of India highlights the tendency of politicians to make big promises while campaigning. Modi’s 56-inch chest is old news, now politicians’ noses have grown like Pinocchio because they lie so much.

Nala Ponnappa on Twitter shows us that almost every word spoken by a politician during campaigning is taken out of context by opposing parties.

Irfan’s cartoon on Twitter pokes fun of Rahul Gandhi’s announcement that he is undertaking the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra after his flight scare recently. Known to take foreign trips at inopportune times, Sonia Gandhi admonishes Rahul for not spending time with his grandmother in Italy this summer.

Hemant Morparia’s cartoon on Twitter shows that with the mega Walmart-Flipkart deal, this may be the end of small and medium scale enterprises in the country.

Lastly, Kirtish Bhatt for BBC Hindi underscores the PR that politicians do in Modi’s ‘Digital India.’ The man in the cartoon implies that the only reason that Modi thinks that no-one from Congress visited Bhagat Singh when he was in jail, is because at that time it was difficult to record ‘proof’ through selfies.
