Rafale can’t be reduced to PSU versus private sector or HAL versus Reliance binary. HAL is a good company, but it’s a monopoly and chronically late in its delivery commitments. It needs competition, and India needs a wider multi-sector production base than just one PSU. Reliance isn’t the only alternative.
Nobody is against competition. It’s the choice of offset partner. Just like auction process in allocation of natural resources, there should have been competitive process for selection of partner. Afterall we are dealing with defence of the country. Difficult for anyone to believe that Dassault selected Reliance Defence.
So far I have written 3 comments on Rafale. You have published none. Could you please tell the reason?
A very wise analysis of the situation. The competitor need not be a private sector company compulsorily. it could be a multinational too in partnership with government.
