The Supreme Court has taken the right call on criminally charged politicians. A ban would have got some populist applause, but with vicious politics and a judicial system as broken as ours, this would have disrupted the entire democratic process. The court should focus on making justice delivery speedier.
Rafale row must not stop private players from contributing to India’s defence production
The Rafale controversy shouldn’t be allowed to reverse the process of bringing Indian private sector into defence production. Had our defence labs and monopoly PSUs been so wonderful, we wouldn’t be the world’s largest arms importer. India can never be self-reliant without building a full military-industrial complex.

It is a wrong notion to put forth this view that private players are being stopped to make their contributions in defence production !
The well- versed and well- equipped private players in this stream must be encouraged and boosted up ! Had private players been so seasoned in this field then these must have tried their hands in it and why the polity was constrained to rely too much on HAL for this purpose for so long ?
But ironically, it is indeed suicidal to hand over this responsibility to private players having zero experience and floating their companies just about a fortnight before the finalisation of the defence deals !
Such an act is nothing but a sheer compromise with the defence and security of the nation on the part of the polity !
Will it not be so in fact ?
