Opposition leaders held protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act at the legislative assembly complex in Lucknow even as prohibitory orders remained imposed in the state.
As per the BMC, there are 1,025 officially approved hoardings in the city right now. However, any Mumbaikar can tell you that number is a ludicrous underestimate.
Latest report by UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs says global growth to be faster than estimated earlier & India’s 'robust performance' to boost South Asia’s growth.
The Spanish foreign minister says 'the Middle East does not need more weapons, it needs more peace'. Spain has been very critical of Israel’s offensive in Gaza.
Discussion about outcome of Lok Sabha polls continues to boil in cauldron of expectations only from BJP. Now reverse this equation, what if we asked about the performance of the 'loser'?
Ms Maya has no other idea to offer to her followers (I say Mayawati, and not BSP), except to abuse Manuwadis, and Amass Maya. And now her place is taken by Azaad. And with the spread of information technology, most of her followers too had mobiles, with internet connection. They are not the illiterate group who can be misguided, but well-informed ones. They cannot be fooled just by abusing the higher castes and they know that Maya can take the support of these, whom she accuses.
The article is very realistic and suggestive of the slow decline of the Mayawatj era. This was probably felt by her also after becoming the CM of UP in 2007 that this was her last opportunity to exploit the post of power and that was the reason she rampantly looted the state. Her last tenure as CM was full of corruption and if someone came in way he was wiped out and even murdered that is why all the Govt officials and even her own party men were extremely scared and engaged wholeheartedly in gathering money for her. Politicians of other party were also equally scared of being ruined by her gang of administrative officials, hangmen of her party and herself. Her lust for money was the real cause of decline. She had become a symbol of unethical politics and rampant corruption but did nothing for the real dalits except hounding for the non brahmain upper cast and OBCs. Her drastic action against Raja Bhaiyya and his old father, who were and are very popular amongst the residents of Pratap Garh and neighbouring districts including Dalits there, did not go well amongst all residents of that area and upper cast people across the state. Her decline started in 2007 itself after 2 – 3 months of becoming CM from her own village in Gautam Buddh Nagar when her own village men started agitation against her decision to acquire the very fertile and costly land for meagre price starting from her own village which spreaded to the entire area of Gurjar belt in the district rendering them totally landless and worst to do was that Govt. Officials, her party men and Even Her own Brother, who is almost illiterate, all were given target to give her money. There were her party men who had installed Note Counting Machined to count and send money to her brother and herself. Her illiterate brother Anand was given the reign of the Govt at least in western UP. In her last tenure of regime the band of her brother’s and her faithful police and administrative officials totally flouted the law and rules and robed the farmers of their land at meagre price but gave it to the Housing Companies wrongly changing the land use at very low price and extending full facility of payment after 10 years without any extra payment to the Govt flouting all rules after taking hefty amount of money as graft. Her band of police and admin officers did go up to the extent of opening fire on the agitating farmers. The innocent farmers of her own village were often lathi charged and of other villages even fired and killed. The corruption was institutionalised in her regime and was rampant. The fire broke out from her own house i e her very own village which was adequately used by opposition parties to defame her and finally building an atmosphere of her ouster. No one but her own self is to be blamed for her decline.
Whenever Media says Mayawati’s days are over, she makes a come-back. All people are jumping from one party to other now. But during election Dalits + Non-Yadav OBCs + Pasmanda Muslims do vote for Mayawati’s BSP. Its like home for the oppressed classes. Bhim Army will make a lot of noise but voters who might like Chandrashekar will still vote for BSP. Dalits in UP understand their power of representation, hence BSP is here to stay. The Print is a Congressi.
Ms Mayawati’s golden moment was 2007, when she became CM of UP with her own simple majority. Her rainbow coalition included Brahmins, her aide S C Mishra was an asset. Within a few months, the upper castes started getting disenchanted with her. She has a legendary appetite for high net worth, something which begins to erode popularity when the traditional vote bank consists of some of the most marginalised sections of society. In conjunction with the SP, the BSP can be an effective force in the politics of UP. On its own, it will be completely marginalised. With more astuteness, she could have built on her small pockets of influence in neighbouring states, emerged out of the confines of UP.

Very novice article. The Print needs some mature writers.
YADAV candidates lost their constituencies because they failed to get YADAV votes.
BSP mainly won at Muslim majority regions.
One word, only one word comes to mind – ‘hubris’. That’s the nemesis of politicians.
