Congress or the Indian National Congress (INC) is one of two major political parties in India. It was founded in 1885 and played a leading role in India’s Independence movement. It has ruled during most of India’s independent years and gave the country its first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Leadership of the Congress too has been dominated by the Nehru-Gandhi family.
The Congress is a center-left party, and lists on its website democracy, nationalism, secularism, inclusive growth and social justice as its core values. It last ruled India between 2004 and 2014, but has since lost its sway, being reduced to just 52 seats in the 2019 General Elections. INDIA, the alliance headed by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, is an attempt to bring together opposition parties against the BJP government for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The article is trying to articulate mostly on the 2014 elections, many things have changed drastically since then for BJP. Like the aspiring BJP then , is now batting with Balakot ball, now the incumbent government is not asking the votes on its major decision like Demonetization, GST, Medical insurance scheme and Jan Dhan Yojana. So, what they are trying to deduce is not corret, the victory in assembly polls in three states and Negligible margin loss in Gujarat can turn in votes. So, the results are different as tin 1971, there was no social media campaigns, which is not touched by the author. Let’s keep the fingers closed.
You are right. Congress is playing for 2024.It may be happy to win 80 – 100 seats in May 2019.Problem for Congress is leadership. If it perseveres with Rahul and other dynasts, it has no future.
You must stop citing examples that belong to 1970 Congress era, almost 50 years old! They are absolutely irrelevant in today’s political scenario, choices & geo political environment. What you shud cite however are Congress decision making style, thinking process as of 10 years ago – only because this Congress is different from the one inherited by Rajiv Gandhi. Same way as this BJP is different from the one created by Advani or during ABV. Keep your logic relevant to adding value to discussion on present day scenarios
It is very difficult, if not impossible to gain majority from 44 seats at present. Rahul wasted all his energy and strategy on abusing Modi as Thief and Commission agent. No body believes this. It would have been better had he given some ideas to increase the productivity and employment, instead of doing out freebies, without bothering to elaborate from where the money will come. But it is do or die battle for him. Because if he fails now, his carrier is finished as a Prime Minister aspirant. Also as per his temperament and habits, he cannot accommodate with regional strataps. Only Modi bashing is no guarantee of success in an awakened society in this fast communication era.
2 states where I expect BJP ,to do well is Bihar and Haryana.
Rahul blundered very BADLY by (1). Placing all his eggs in the Rafale basket for six months, going hammer and tongs at it all day, every day. IF, ‘Rafale’ was such an issue that could topple Modi, as Rahul fondly, but blindly, believed, WHY is he not even mentioning it in recent ‘speeches’ anywhere? It has fizzled out as a damp squib long before the elections, because only lies and fiction were being peddled as facts and data.. (2). Rahul, again very childishly, believed that Modi’s immense popularity with the voting masses can be easily dented with cheap, direct PERSONAL attacks, by mocking and ridiculing the PM and showering abuses and a Primary School Boyish taunting with silly acronyms and inane witticisms. He seems to have been carried away by the applause and appreciation of his own party sycophants and sections of the media, the latter indulging him entirely for their own selfish ends. The aftermath of these elections is highly likely to see Congress shattered. And it will be Rahul alone who will be left to answer.
Especially in India where political machines need so much ATF to run, very difficult to “ rebuild the organisation “ while being in the opposition. 2019 is a test of Shri Rahul Gandhi’s qualities of leadership. The Congress being the sort of party it is, there will be no serious challenge to his leadership even in 2029, but that is not saying much.
