New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s win in the Delhi assembly elections brought cheer not just to the supporters but also to AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal’s wife Sunita, who is celebrating her 54th birthday Tuesday.

As the trends cemented AAP’s hold on Delhi, the Kejriwals held a double celebration at the party headquarters in the national capital where both Kejriwal and Sunita joyously cut a cake. The Kejriwal children, Harshita and Pulkit, were also seen besides their parents, smiling cheerfully.

Sunita, a former Indian Revenue Service officer, had campaigned extensively for her husband.

As of 3.00 pm, AAP was leading in 60 seats in the 70-member Delhi assembly while the BJP was leading in 8.

Social media celebration

Wishes for Sunita Kejriwal also poured in on social media.

“What a day to celebrate birthday!! Happy birthday to Sunita Kejriwal ma’am, the force behind the man of the day today @ArvindKejriwal,” posted a Twitter user named John Rayhan.

“Happy Birthday Sunita Kejriwal ji. Must be your best bday so far (sic),” said a user named Kushal Sharma.

Sunita’s support for Kejriwal

During the campaign for the bitterly fought 8 February Delhi polls, Sunita Kejriwal had campaigned extensively for her husband and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.

As BJP attacked Kejriwal in the run up to the polls calling him a “terrorist”, she said last week, “People are watching how allegations are being put on us. But they assure us that their vote will go only to ‘jhaadu’ (party symbol). It is very disheartening to see that allegations are being put on a person who is working so hard.”

Both Sunita and Arvind were IRS officers before the latter joined politics. During her career, Sunita was posted as Commissioner of I-T in the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) in New Delhi. She served in the central government for over 20 years.
