New Delhi: Concerned over its poll pledge of providing minimum income guarantee under Nyuntam Aay Yojana (NYAY) not finding much resonance on the ground, the Congress has now involved Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in promoting the ambitious scheme through her personalised message.
Earlier, Congress president Rahul Gandhi had sent out personalised letters to voters about the scheme.
According to a senior Congress functionary, voters falling under the most economically backward polling booths were identified and they are being sent Priyanka’s audio messages in Hindi.
In the recorded message, Priyanka, who is the Congress general secretary in-charge for Uttar Pradesh (East), is heard giving out details of the scheme, besides telling voters that money will be transferred directly into the bank accounts of the women of the eligible households.
The audio messages will be sent to 46 lakh people in three Hindi heartland states — Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. These states will vote in the fourth phase on 29 April. As many as 19,181 polling booths will be covered as part of the promotional effort.
“We have identified the beneficiaries of the scheme and they have received personalised letters by Congress president Rahul Gandhi. States in phase-IV will receive audio messages from Priyanka Gandhi Vadra,” said Praveen Chakravarty, head of the Congress’ data analytics department.

‘Message from Priyanka makes a lot of difference’
According to sources, the grassroots workers had pointed out to the senior Congress leadership that there were a number of questions about NYAY that remained unanswered and were creating confusion among the voters, and hence more clarity was required.
Following this, the personalised audio messages were created where Priyanka can be heard telling the voters about the Congress promise of giving Rs 72,000 per year directly to accounts of the women of eligible households.
“The money will go into the accounts of the women and hence a message from Priyanka makes a lot of difference. In the audio message, she has appealed to women to spread the message,” said the Congress leader.
The Congress has also put in place a system in which on a daily basis the party is checking the penetration and awareness of its minimum income scheme among the people.
“The booth-level workers are completely aware of the nitty-gritty of the scheme and they have been asked to explain it to the beneficiaries so that there’s no scope of any confusion,” added Chakravarty.
Rahul Gandhi’s personalised letter
Earlier, Congress president Rahul Gandhi had written personalised letters to eligible households. The letter ends with the slogan, “Garibi par vaar, bahattar hazar” (Attack on poverty, Rs 72,000).
The Congress had promised in its election manifesto that the country’s 20% of the poorest will be provided Rs 6,000 per month.
