While Times Now debated the probe into the Bengaluru riots, NDTV 24×7 discussed the unravelling peace talks between the NSCN (I-M) and the government. Republic TV continued its impressively endless coverage of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death as did ABP News. The big discussion on News Nation was “Secular gang vs Supreme Court,” with anchor Deepak Chaurasia calling Prashant Bhushan a “repeat offender”.
First, to Times Now‘s ‘NewsHour’, with Padmaja Joshi, where they discussed Congress reportedly blocking the probe into the Bengaluru violence. Speaking to Islamic scholar Atiq ur Rehman, Joshi asked him, “Why would a mainstream political party go and seek the release of rioters?”
Rehman responded, “When such incidents happen, it is the crackdown of the police in the BJP states, where the crackdown is on the Muslim youth… We are fed up, you know.”
Even as Rehman spoke, Joshi interrupted with, “Well there will be relief if you don’t indulge in riots, there is a fairly simple formula for getting relief in a police crackdown. Don’t indulge in riots.”
The BJP’s Amit Malviya said, “The Congress is not speaking against the wrong committed towards its MLA, but it is speaking for vote bank.” Isn’t that what political parties do?
As talks between the central government and leaders of Nagaland’s NSCN (I-M) continue to unravel, NDTV 24×7‘s Sreenivasan Jain asked Neingulo Krome, Secretary General of the Naga People’s Movement For Human Rights, “Who do you blame for the breakdown?”
Krome replied, “Flag and Constitution were never an issue. RN Ravi wants to create problems; he is not interested in finding a solution,” he said referring to the state’s governor.
“This is a personal attack against RN Ravi, which is not fair,” protested BJP MP Lalitha Kumaramangalam.
Republic TV‘s Arnab Goswami continues to be obsessed with Rajput’s death — specifically, the Supreme Court’s decision on the transfer of the probe on Wednesday. However, for a change, he put certain limitations on the scope of the debate.
When writer and BJP supporter Shubhrastha got too caught up about the “unfair probe” by the Mumbai Police and started talking about a certain “baby penguin”, Goswami said he preferred not to get into that and instead discuss the Supreme Court’s verdict tomorrow. What a relief.
Meanwhile, on ABP News, anchor Romana Isar Khan had a “big” revelation in the case. “Rhea Chakraborty had finally broken her silence. A statement has come through her lawyer. She has said that there is no proof against me, all accusations are false,” Khan said. This was on TV news all day, so a bit late in the day, Ms Khan?
“I have no contact with Aaditya Thackeray,” the anchor quoted Chakraborty’s statement. The channel then went on to report on why two ambulances had arrived to carry Rajput’s body. The reason was — the wheelchair in one of the ambulances wasn’t working properly.
“Now Rajput’s sister Priyanka has been put in the witness box. The statement says that Priyanka misbehaved with Rhea. She has not only raised questions on accusations coming up 40 days after the actor’s death but also rubbished them,” the anchor continued, saying Chakraborty has alleged that all politics around Rajput’s death is because of the upcoming Bihar polls.
News Nation‘s question of the hour was whether the secular gang was behind the allegations against the Supreme Court.
The BJP’s Shahnawaz Hussain went all guns blazing at the Congress party: “Citizens raise their fingers on the Congress party and in turn, INC who is in a mood for revenge, raises fingers on the country’s institutions,” he thundered. “Justice doesn’t mean it will be according to you. Prashant Bhushan already knows how much and what to say,” he added.
“Had the Supreme Court agreed on Bhushan’s PIL and merged the PM CARES fund with the NDRF then he would have been very happy. Prashant Bhushan is a habitual offender,” anchor Deepak Chaurasia chimed in.
