COVID-19 a ‘boomer remover’ — Why millennials are angry and done with older generation

‘OK Boomer’ and ‘Uncle, please sit’ are popular catchphrases to signal an enough-is-enough attitude toward older generations.

As the world grapples with the coronavirus pandemic, the words ‘Boomer Remover’ featured prominently in Twitter trends the past couple of days. It is, of course, a mean yet on-point joke about how the majority of the COVID-19 pandemic’s death toll are the elderly.

What is the reason for this pushback and anger against Boomers across the world, and in particular, against uncles in India? ‘OK Boomer’ and ‘Uncle, please sit’ are now popular catchphrases to signal that young people have had enough of the policies and politics that have got us to this point. Boomers have handed younger generations a broken economy, an ailing planet, and nuclear weapons – but won’t stop with the lectures.

And as many pointed out, the Boomers’ response to the admittedly off-colour joke has been far more proactive than their response to all the actual problems for which younger generations blame them: their political choices that have now led to lack of jobs for the current generations around the world and their inability to buy a house, a growing climate crisis, rising depression and anxiety among young people, poor healthcare facilities, rampant gun violence in schools and even their ostrich-like response to coronavirus. Many Boomer-run offices can easily allow employees to work from home in the gig economy until this pandemic is over, but they simply won’t.

Young people are now telling them that their time, more specifically, the time of their ideas, is over, and they should stop trying to run the world.

But first, who exactly is a Boomer? Technically, Baby Boomers are the post- World War II generation, born between 1946 to 1964 and named for its contribution to baby-making and regenerating a world that was ravaged by war. The generation was defined by post-war hope, stability, and conspicuous-consumption prosperity. But today, it has come to mean business-as-usual status quoists.

Don’t dismiss young people, Boomers

The use of the term as a pejorative, though, has less to do with age and more to do with a certain mindset that most people above a certain age are unwilling to change. The typical Boomer, for example, is generally dismissive of anyone under the age of 40 as a clueless and entitled “millennial”. Never mind the fact that a millennial is technically someone born anywhere between the early 1980s and the mid-90s, after which come at least two more generations. But then, since when does a Boomer, especially a man, care about that? To him, everyone and everything that came after him is young, naïve, not as good. All he has to do is wave his hand dismissively at you when you argue, and lecture you about how the world works because he knows best. Been there, ruined that.

Young people respond to this dismissiveness in the way they know best — through memes, like Ok Boomer, which mimics that same dismissiveness and throws it right back at the Boomer. It calls out the older generation’s unwillingness to see that the world has changed and that not all the old rules still apply. Because of Boomers’ lifestyle and political cjoices, young people are now saddled with a job and real-estate market they didn’t ask for, with a dying planet and an authoritarian rightward political swing. They are simply doing their best to salvage what they can. Be it on the streets, through Instagram fund-raisers for the bushfires in Australia, organising donation drives of sanitary pads, food and medicines to areas in Delhi affected by communal riots, or fighting to save trees, glaciers, birds and polar bears, they are doing their best. They are tired of the Boomers standing in the way. Yes, creating prosperity mattered to the Boomers, but the young insist on sustainable prosperity and if the Boomers can’t find it in them to support these efforts, they could at least not actively diss them.

Why are Boomers so dismissive?

Boomers diss these efforts because they’re afraid of them. They diss them because they’re afraid of their own growing irrelevance. When Greta Thunberg repeatedly thundered “How dare you?” at world leaders, what irked many Boomers was that she was reminding them to think beyond themselves, to think about future generations. Most world leaders are from the Boomer generation, both in terms of age and mindset, and they will soon be irrelevant and eventually, gone, a fact they hate to be reminded of. But their children and grandchildren will be left behind, picking up the pieces of the world they ruined because of their denial of change and crisis, their ostrich-like unwillingness to engage with a new world because it terrifies them. That’s why Boomers hate Greta Thunberg.

Closer home, in India, when finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman blamed “millennials” for the automobile industry slowdown, it once again threw into stark relief that the Boomers just don’t get it. Young people are blamed for everything from an economic downturn to the breakdown of marriage (an institution that needs a massive overhaul anyway). The young and their new ideas are even being blamed for the rise of the Right-Wing around the world. Frankly, the backlash against this blame was a long time coming.

And now that coronavirus has reared its ugly head, we are once again seeing the generational rift between Boomers and “millennials”. It’s no secret that COVID-19 most likely moved from bats to pangolins to humans. And why are bats coming closer and closer to human habitation? Because of deforestation. Something that young people around the world have rallied against, in climate strikes that Boomers dissed “as useless millennial activism.”

So, when young people call the pandemic a Boomer Remover, is it unkind? Of course. Is it on point? Yes.

  1. “My child, why don’t you listen what I say?”/”Ok, boomer” the child just says./Boomer parent slaps them in the face/and takes their phone away. ?

  2. What crap, I’m 60 and have lots of awesome young people in my life and we respect each other. Lots of elders are doing their part since before the Millenials were born, in the trenches, fighting for the planet and human and animal rights, etc. We’re all in this together, how about a switch that way instead of all the whining and trash talking ? Boring. Next.

  3. Any millennial that still eats meat doesn’t care about the environment. If they are posting, tweeting, and buying stickers about saving the planet. They are all talk and no action!

  4. A critical reader will never take your rants seriously, since you speak and hide behind blanket stereotypes and generalizations, which are the panacea of the lazy mind. Real life doesn’t work like that.

  5. Who wrote this drivel? Apparently someone young and stupid. The planet is not “dying”, climate change is greatly exaggerated if not a complete lie, housing has always been too expensive, college has always been too expensive, and so on. Most of us boomers had to pay back heavy student loans for 10-20 years, and virtually all of us had 1-4 roommates to afford an apartment before the age of 30. Boomers couldn’t afford McDonald’s except on special occasions, never mind eating at TGIF. Car payments? Ha! Out of the question. Maybe if millennials would do more reading of real history, not the propaganda texts the public schools have been spoon-feeding them, they would KNOW that not much has changed since “boomers” were struggling young people. Same shit, different generation. Fucking spoiled brats, all of you.

    • This editorial shows millennial stupidity at its finest, but you’re indeed the typical boomer in denial: the planet IS dying and humanity is doomed.

  6. The article is spot on!
Boomers have destroyed the world, and sitting in its ruins, don’t even notice the damage they have done.

Are Boomers bad and all Milennials good? No, but most can be classified that way. You’ll have a 75% chance to meet a racist boomer for example, while only about 25% of Milennials can be classified that way.

It is finally time for the Boomers to pay for their crimes against humanity!

        • Yet here you are responding? Every generation, blames the one before… true lyrics, check out the song, something worthy of looking up. I could tell you but you’re smarter than that right? Anyway. I DON’T blame my parents for how I am or what I became, I don’t blame my grandparents either or anyone else. However we do live in a society blaming each other, blaming each culture, blaming history, blaming whites, blaming blacks. Here is the thing. HOW do we expect to move forward when all we do is BLAME!
Seriously! Boomers, Millennials. Blacks. Whites. Gays. Straights.
What I see it HUMANITY CANNOT GET ALONG! And we look for any excuse not to. You call out Boomers for holding YOU back? Really the only person I see holding you back is YOU.
I see you attacking those who hate black people or brown people or white people etc. Let them hate. YOU HATE them! Are you any different? Seriously? Are you? A Hater is a hater?
Here is a thing for all those internet warriors who LOVE to voice there “good” cause, hate is still hate and as long as you hate that other half will hate too. EDUCATE!
Oh sorry you Millennials KNOW all about that.
Hating a Boomer, hating a racist, hating a homophobic person REALLY isn’t understanding. Yes they hate, but the way past that is to try and educate and IF they don’t understand or don’t want to understand then move on. UNDERSTAND they’re different.
IF someone physically attacks someone the educated word for this is CRIME. HATE SPEECH isn’t such a thing in a DEMOCRACY OF FREE SPEECH! You cannot choose what is FREE and what is NOT! Free speech is free speech, want something different then you live in the wrong kind of political system.
Protests and apologies change NOTHING. Mostly because it’s based on Hypocrisy.
SNOWFLAKE reflects how people get upset about EVERYTHING so easily.
The younger generation IS OUR FUTURE. Understand this, but also understand that the OLDER generation has a lot of knowledge to pass on. People are people and certain viewpoint WON’T change just because you demonize it. Young people know a lot, but knowledge comes in many forms. One knowledge many young people do not have (and I know many will argue this proving my point) is EXPERIENCE.
Someone around 20 years is FAR, FAR less to have experienced what someone forty or sixty has experienced. So if nothing else. Show some RESPECT. Something this generation has shown they don’t have.
They WANT respect, but don’t want to show it. USING phrases like “You need to earn respect.” THAT goes both ways. And someone who has been along a lot longer already earnt that. Doesn’t mean there are no assholes around but in general SHOW and you will RECEIVE.
Secondly/ Being OFFENDED at everything isn’t a solution. It actually ADDS to the problem. RACISM for example is here because we allow it to be. However drudging up the past isn’t solving the issue. RACISM whether we like it or not is a form of bullying. Any form of bullying degrades the victim.
Unfortunately bullying NEVER goes away. The best way to beat a bully is take away their power. If a bully calls someone a lanky string bean because someone is slim and tall. If you say “No I am not!” The bully LOVES tahis. It empowers him. If you say “Sure. That’s me. PROUD OF IT.” Sooner or later you become less of a target.
Today I see HATE just like I’ve always seen hate. People looking for new victims. Those who saying they’re fighting the good cause. BS. They’re haters themselves. hahh but it’s for a good cause!
There is NO PLACE FOR HATE. A good cause that creates hate isn’t a good cause. We stand up for the black but we hate on the whites? How is that good. EQUALITY is what is needed and who (and I apologize if this sounds insensitive) cares about what happened in the past! The past is the past. We CANNOCT CHANGE IT. Educate and move forward but not hate. Don’t turn MORE black folk against white folk and vice versa. Get it in the classroom. Be truthful but stop spreading guilt and shame for being white (or black or brown – the sins of my forefathers are NOT my sins). I won’t go into police brutality because that is a different thing and needs to stop period.
The point here is Boomer or Millennial it matters not. IF you can bring somethin to the table for humanity good for you. However in a two point argument. BOOMERS don’t THINK you have all the answers. Listen. MILLENNIALS the same thing and remember the word RESPECT and stop expecting everything to be given you and thinking this is the hardest generation to live in because it really isn’t. EVERYONE in time has had it’s challenges.
Let’s STOP pointing the fingers. Casting each other out and segregating and understand this. Young, old, black, white (all colours), gay or straight we ALL have something to offer.
Dress it up but this whole article is a HATE ARGUMENT. Just read the comments. Then ask yourself one thing. Are you any better to judge than those before you?

        • You’re still a disposable piece of flesh darling, exactly like me and that idiot above,… Nothing would change if you disappear. Don’t think to be better than me, you’re not, ^_^

  7. I am a millenial, and I’m tired of hearing these childish come backs like ok boomer. There is so much hate speech in this world today all across the board, on every area of discussion, and 90% of it comes from my own generation. Quite honestly it disgusts me on the inability to take any sort of responsibility for there own actions that my generation has in it. So I’d like to be one of the first to say that it is our own fault. Remember one day we will be treated the same way by or children only because of our own ignorance. I truly hope that my own generation gets what’s coming, and regrets every single bit of it because this time they won’t be there to bail us out. Growing up as a millenial I have seen nothing but a self righteous, arrogant, and reckless attitude from my own generation. We want to enjoy all the luxury that our ancestors built for us, but don’t want to do the hard work it takes to keep it going. I see this first hand as I work in a production plant, and I see no one my own age working there. Where do people think all our luxury comes from? Some magical world of plenty. Grow up, and wake up people. We should be greatful for all they have done for us. Remember it will come full circle. We will get old, well at least I would like to someday. However at the rate we are going there won’t be anything left for the next generation. I say wake up millenial, wake up mellineal. WAKE UP!!!

    • I feel the same to be honest. I’m 20 and I fully respect what my parents did and built for me. All the luxuries I have, is their result of lifetime hardwork. They had nothing and still didn’t complaint. While my generation have every luxury and still rants like shit. I can’t just diss on them, just because these fake woke millenials like bashing everything, becasue they feel like it. And for the reminder, those people built all this from scratch, after what WW2 left everything destroyed. What millennials got? What have they even done for the world, who are bashing the older generation for their doings? Those were the opportunities they had, at least they took it, not like spoilt millenials. I would we very satisfied if future generations hate millenials. Because they deserve it and I’m very ashamed for my generation And don’t even dare to reply Ok boomer. I already told you, I’m 20.

  8. I have never read such hate and discrimination in all of my life. I’m not even a “boomer” and I can see the hatred and moronic. rationalization here.

  9. Everyone keep in mind this thought… you are clinging to a ball of mud and rock, orbiting an insignificant star, in a remote arm of a spiral galaxy, in a universe containing 100’s of billions of galaxies. We are insignificant beyond words. So, beat each other, complain, cry, stomp your feet, be happy, blow brains out, or whatever gives meaning to your life. Just always remember we are all nothing of significance in the Universe and we will all die on this God forsaken ball of mud and rock.

    • I was told by a like to learn 12 year older philosopher brother who volunteered for Vietnam and survived horror no civilian has real conception of. that as you go along in life, you find out how more and more insignificant you really are. Ego polish hater b.s. from the younger generation spoiled.

  10. Everyone keep in mind this thought… you are clinging to a ball of mud and rock, orbiting an insignificant star, in a remote arm of a spiral galaxy, in a universe containing 100’s of billions of galaxies. We are insignificant beyond words. So, bitch, complain, cry, stomp your feet, be happy, blow brains out, or whatever gives meaning to your life. Just always remember we are all nothing of significance in the Universe and we will all die on this God forsaken ball of mud and rock.

  11. AMEN!!!! Older folks are mostly same mindset, regardless whether pricks or bitches…because of the mere commonality of working their friggin butta and fingers off entire lives to LIVE! BASIC LIFE TOOK UNBELIEVABLE EFFORT! AND THE WORLD SOMEHOW SURVIVED WITHOUT ALL THIS SKANK DISHONEST SOCIAL MEANINGLESS CRAP AND CONFUSION ABOUT HOW MANY GENDERS. ONLY 2 EXIST! MENTAL IDIOTS. YOUNG PEOPLE, WE GAVE YOU TOO MUCH TOO EASY. IMMATURE PUNKS. LAZY FOOLS THAT HAVE NO CLUE ABOUT LIFE BUT FOR WHAT THEY WATCH AND HEAR. TOO DUMB TO ACTUALLY “DO” WHAT IT TAKES TO TRULY MANAGE YOUR OWN LIFE, TRULY PROVIDE FOR AND BY SELVES. AND BTW, GOOD LUCK PHYSICALLY FINDING ALL THESE DEAD PEOPLE FROM THE BEERLIE. STUPID PEOPLE BELIEVE ANYTHING LYING GOVT AND MEDIA TELL THEM. GO SEE FOR SELVES, USE A MUSCLE N BRAIN AND PHYSICALLY VERIFY THE REPORTS. PUNKS, ONLY DYING ARE SAME DYING THROUGH HISTORY. ELDERLY AND CONDITION COMPLICATIONS, WHETHER CONDITIONS KNOWN YET! IDIOTS!

  12. Not a Boomer.
I’m from the future. CDC changed its mind again and cites young people as the largest at-risk and cause-of-risk demographic.
Congrats on being easily manipulated by the internet.

Even Zoomers hate millennials. Your generation is at the end of its relevance in the media and your legacy is to be an in-between that people will reference like Xer’s view hippies.

Hilarious how all that complaining lead to nothing but more extremists, more hate, less personal freedom, and fewer opportunities. Hell, most of you will end up alone and broke as younger people are taking up functional skills vice shear education and will replace millennials earlier than any other generation. Agism in your 40s!

Good luck with the writing “career” once socialism needs your labor rather than your complaining.

  13. I am not a boomer. Yet, boomers are considered the last generation to know some of the old prophecies: that the final human generation will hate their parents, with venom, and some will cause their parents to be put to death. The final generation would possibly be struck with impotence, or infertility; or become a transhumanism scientific trial. My parents remember when baby boomers were called “tree huggers” due to their love of the planet and desire to save it. The tone of the article we are commenting on, is that of the coming final generation. Yet, as more generations continue to be born; the final generation, who will, according to old prophecies, put their parents to death, just might be the children, grandchildren or great grandchildren of the millennial generation. Millenials will get old.
Then, according to those old old prophecies, they will reap what they have sown. They may be hated and put to death, by their own children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

    • Not my children: The bliss that some deity, Mother Nature or whatever gave me is infertility. Oh, and don’t be that sure that zoomers will get old, they probably won’t.

    • Boomer killed their unborn babies in mass, Boomer push hard as hell in the 90s to legalize. Euthanasia, boomers raised the Millennials, who are one of the most immoral and the gullible generation of Americans to ever live(so bad they divide them into Y And Z (They’re all incompetent and immoral, They’re all millennials and the children of boomers) what goes around comes around! You shall reap what you have sown. Go to church, get saved, salvage what you can from your own generation and God help the millennials.
As much as the boomers suck, I suspect I’m going to miss you guys when you’re gone. Global warming is fake you’re gullible if you believe it. COVID-19 is an over blown cold if you don’t see the government overreach you’re gullible. If COVID-19 is such a killer where are the bodies?
Waste guys get paid to go to abortion clinics and get rid of the bodies, that’s how we know babies are dying. Where are the Covid bodies? Funny how the common cold completely disappeared this year, and all other causes of death I’ve gone drastically down as Covid has gone up? Pray to God for the millennials, pray to God for the bombers, pray to God for the world, pray to God for America. Pray that God would plague and kill the wicked and all those that hate God and all that is wholesome and good and righteous and pure before they destroy the world With the help of Orwellian sheep that think they’re saving it. The souls of men can be saved by faith in Christ alone, The world is going to burn up, there is no saving it and be Larry of those who think they can make promises which refuse to take into account the revelation and for knowledge of God

  14. Millennials ruined the internet with their social network bullshit; lots of boomers and Gen-Xers fell into the trap and Gen-Zers are brainwashed by Instagram and TikTok. Don’t misunderstand me, social media aren’t wrong per se and can be very useful or just fun, but the bullshit you can find there it is. One of the main reasons why millennials are disliked by boomers and boomers are disliked by millennials is that they’ve BOTH became showy. Showy about what they own or not own, showy about their opinions, showy about their petty social dramas, showy about their shallow relationships born on Tinder… Being showy means being vulgar. Entitled millennials have invented non-existent sexualities (pansexual is just bisexual period, but again don’t misunderstand, some definitions are legit and I know it), romanticized mental illnesses, and they gave an awful meaning to noble concepts like feminism and social justice. And some others gave fuel to toxic movements like incels, redpill, anti-vaxxers, anti-maskers, violent vegans etc. “Not all millennials are like this!” some would answer. Of course, not all millennials are like this and they made good things too but, my sweet summer child(ren), the majority are all of the above. And not all boomers are bigot racist pricks, but again, the majority are indeed bigot and racist pricks. Nowadays, if you make a sincere and genuine compliment to a person of color regarding their complexion, their hair or some other distinctive racial feature, they call you racist, and probably complain about it on Reddit/Tumblr/their blog/wherever. And if you say that you don’t care about their race, they call you “patronizing white person” or something. If you eat meat, they call you murderer. If you don’t have at least one LGBTA+Q character in your work, or dislike a certain pairing or you’re just annoyed to see yaoi and slash everywhere, they call you homophobe. If you are autistic, when they don’t call you freak they call you liar because you’re not a living stereotype. If you’re a woman who likes feminine stuff, they call you anti-feminist. If you’re a woman and support equality, they call you nazifem… And so on. It’s like this online, and offline too. Millennials and boomers, stop gatekeeping and acting like entitled snowflakes. YOU are racist too, because EVERYONE (including black people, oh yes) is. YOU are a bully too, because EVERYONE is. You are privileged too, because basically EVERYONE, in a way or another, is. YOU are evil too, because EVERYONE is. YOUR opinions may be wrong too, because EVERY opinion may be. But you just won’t realize it…

    • I was born in 1982 and I guess that would mean that I should identify myself as a so-called “millennial”. I wasn’t given the option to choose this label and nor were any other generations before and after, but that didn’t really matter. I know that we people just FOLLOW what others tell us to follow and listen to what we THINK entitles us to make our impact. Like a hungry salesman trying to convince you that his product is a good buy, or an irrational child crying for attention We all selfishly desire the approval of others and the need for self-gratification as we age and this mental condition is often found more prevalent in technologically advanced countries that are driven by ideas of capitalism. People are motivated by the materials.

  15. If the job market is poor and not providing you with the kind of jobs you want, then go and gain yourselves some marketable skills, set up your own business, and sell those skills. You are the ‘tech savy generation’ aren’t you? Capitalise on it!
If the housing market in its current form is unaffordable then do a self-build or set up a business building affordable homes.
But most of all, learn how to graft hard and build the life YOU want to live instead of waiting for someone to wipe your a55 for you whilst you waste your life reading garbage articles like this which only serve to further perpetuate your self-induced victimhood status. Otherwise you’ll hit 40 and still end up being one of life’s ‘woe-is-me’ victims when your peers are successful, fulfilled and happy.
Oh, and Greta, the planet isn’t going to die anytime soon. Environmentalists were publishing articles and books in the 70s about the world’s food supplies running out and us all dying of starvation. They still don’t know if Europe is going to turn into an uninhabitable desert or a frozen wasteland, but it doesn’t matter as drowning under rising sea levels has been the ‘climate emergency’ since the noughties.

  16. Just the amount of pure hatred in this comment section alone is proof that this article struck a chord. Makes you angry when someone tells you the truth about yourselves doesn’t it boomers? Rant while you can because soon you will be dead and no one will remember you fondly

Will it let me post yet?

  17. Wow. You put the comment box all the way at the bottom. Genius.

Anyway, I’m dismissive because you’re talking entitled bullshit. You haven’t changed shit (where’s Bernie? lol), you haven’t done shit, you haven’t created shit or built shit. In fact, you’re destroying.

You say you’re deserving — prove it.

Also, we’ve heard all the bullshit concerns you bring up. Boring. We tried to change the world, we failed, then we grew up. You will too…in our houses, living on our money, spending your time whining.

Do something productive. Then, maybe we will listen. Right now you’re nothing. Who’s got the money and power? Is it you? lol

    Clean your rooms, kids.

  18. Well isn’t that typical of millennials, no accountability. Would you all like cheese with that whine? What did you all think would happen when you did nothing to help. things all these years , did you vote? No. A generation that embraces apathy , ignorance, stupidity, hip hop culture that consists of misogyny drinking drugs partying screwing greed. Speaking with a 50 word vocabulary whilst pontificating about what other people should be doing. FYI diss is not a word. But do you expect from a generation that performed with low scores across the board in math reading writing spelling. According to the ETS “Education Testing Service looked at millennials skills is numeracy “ability to apply everyday situations “ literacy, and problem solving in technology rich environments just to name a few. And guess what? You didn’t stack up against the world. Making millennials the most useless population in the world. Kids today including gen z buckle under scrutiny. Calling each other including black people “nigga” which has it’s roots in racism look it up and inability to expand your vocabulary. No wonder you can’t manage your finances and are becoming that middle age man living in mommies basement playing GTA smoking weed while to try to figure life out lol Look up the documentary callled waiting for Superman which addresses the school system and over confidence with no value behind it aka stupidity. You people have no creativity or originality falling to reinvent your selves and inability to come up with a new genre of music rather you’re all listening rap which has been around since 1977. You’re listening to your parents or grandparents music which makes the least cool or hip generation. You copycat posers are tourists that think dying your hair blue green or pink is new which it’s not gen x beats you to it via punk rock scene which included tattoos that were earned from real life. BTW when grandma or mom has tattoos it’s no longer cool. Get with the times. Now all of the sudden you all are realizing that you can’t over come adversity and make things happen. Try borrowing a chapter from gen x if you want something done right , roll up your sleeves and do it your self. I love that your failures and all the existing older generations laughing at pisses you off. You angry bruh? Pfft lol I knew you kids were going fail back in the early 90s. You could see a decline back then. Get over your self you had all this time to change the world and you kids did “nothing “.

    • Gen X is literally the most forgettable, generic and submissive generation to walk the face of the earth lol. There’s a reason no one ever talks about Gen X, it’s because they docilely rode the wave and vision created by boomers and adopted a cookie-cutter un-original lifestyle in some suburban area. You can say what you want about millennials and zoomers, but at least they’re challenging the status quo instead of blindly guzzling up whatever they’re given by the previous generations, unlike Gen Xer.

          • …and yet ignorance grows. So forgettable and yet you KNOW of Generation X. Most Millennials were born to Generation X. In the era of generation X was PUNK, the original up yours music movement as well as many civil protests against war, including those against a possible world war 3 in the 80’s. Hay but I guess YOU Millennials were the first… PLEASE FORGIVE ME I KNOW not. Afterall you’ve only lived less than me and even though much more educated than me KNOW all about history.

      • Millenials are “challenging the status-quo” from their comfortable homes, in front of a computer or a cellphone, whining on Twitter, Tumblr or whatever… Mankind is useless and evil, and the world can only get worse. Wake up sweet summer children., the world is doomed and you can’t do anything against it.
Oh, and what’s with this collective hatred towards suburban lifestyle? Living in a suburb doesn’t necessarily mean being a bigot conservative prick. Suburbs may be boring,, but depends on the place. They’re are always better than some small town in the middle of nowhere with just normie peasants around. To me, living in a suburb just means less f***ing people around and less noise (and less coronavirus), lol, but next to civilization. I’m a single childfree Gen-Xer who worked for decades just to gain my freedom (and freedom needs money), and now I’m cherishing my retirement, living a rather frugal lifestyle and doing what I want to do. I’m a harmless misanthropist and a self-indulgent nihilist, living only for myself.

  19. Mankind is on the top of the food chain. But the top is the most useless part, because if it would be removed or replaced, the changes would be irrelevant. Planet Earth doesn’t need humans, so boomers, millennials and this post aren’t needed either.

  20. I get it. I walk everyday and continue to do so during the pandemic. I do it because at 35 I have glaucoma and have to walk to help regulate my IOP. We do not have side walks out by me. The general rule is to walk against on coming traffic if there is no side walk. I was walking up hill to my house and there was this elderly woman and her daughter walking on the wrong side of the road. I shouted to her the rules of the. She barely moved six feet while her daughter got on the other side of the road. Its the rules of the road and rather than follow them this woman just wanted to be difficult. I’m done with boomers

    • Because ALL millennials ang Gen-Xers respect the rules, right? Corona parties are a millenial thing… 90% of people are useless pieces of flesh regardless of their age, period.

    • You are seriously getting bent out of shape over someone you say is walking on the wrong side of the road?!! Get a life, grow up or do both.

  21. Oh great we have found yet another way to hate each other . If we all spent all this energy in search of ways to close this gap, solve the issues, and find a way to communicate with civility, life and the planet would become healthy again.
Hate is the ugliest and most destructive emotion and it never leads to sound decisions or understanding of the actual divide or Virus that always seem s to infect every Human Being in every walk of life in every country.
Hate kills in every issue every day.

  22. Yeah, I don’t feel sorry for boomers. You guys deserve the hate 100% and its not what you did but the shi**y way you act and respond to simple inquiry. You guys act like new f*gs on 4ch@n.

If you don’t understand I’ll happily explain. Its like when your little brother learns to wipe his a$$ and feels the need to act like a b*tch when ever someone inquires about a topic relating to his new found skill.

For an example:”Where is the toilet paper?”

Might get the response of: “LeIk OmG! HoW Fu*in DuUmB ArE U!!!??

The exact response needed for the old sibling to say f*#k it and rub the little ba*t*rds face in dried mulch.

Which is the equivalent of no one wants to hire a cranky diseased f*#ker during a pandemic/recession.

Enjoy unemployment. I hate you all.

    • I’m 63 my wife of 25 years died 3 years ago…I never had kids only cats. I retired at 49 from profits I made in real estate.
I’m in poor heath and no I have only a few years left and set up a scholarship fund at OSU were I went to school ….5k a semester. I give large sums of money away in tips and find most millinials very greatful for giveing them 1k tips which I do a few times a month. Sure there I’d good a bad with every generation but the ones I’ve come across seem pretty darn sharp. Yes I’m very liberal maybe is why but I seem to get along with them fine. I hope they do better than my generation did.

  23. I am in the limbo zone generation, at age 59, with characteristics of both Boomers and Xers. I was too young to come of age in the 1970s but too old to come of age in the 1980s. I was age 18 in both 1979 and 1980. I remember the moon landing, which makes a me a Boomer. I don’t remember Woodstock, which makes me an Xer. Generational warfare simply obscures the real issues facing our country and our world. There are both good and bad in every generation. I try to learn from the young and old alike, as well as from my peers.

  24. Idgaf about anyone’s ancedote or generational affiliation.

Things cost more now and people work more than ever. Don’t generalize and don’t be a jerk. Pretty simple. Just f’ing try. Can’t comprehend, then that’s on you.

  25. The tolerance here is fantastic. One group tells “grandpa” to shut up because he is an -ist (rac-ist, sex-ist, etc.) and here they are falling into the trap of being an -ist as well (age-ist).

I do so love hypocrisy; makes your argument that much stronger, lol.

Millennial and Boomers hate each other because they are more alike than they care to admit.

  26. Boo-hoo. You want the world handed to you. I’m a Gen Xer and I would never disrespect the generations that have come before me. I cannot believe the ignorance of most millennials. I say most because there’s good in every generation just like there’s good and bad in every walk of life. You need to realize that anybody that’s older than you has seen a lot more history than you have, and they can help you learn from their mistakes. You only need to be willing to embrace everyone. It’s called listen to learn. Did you think that because you went to college you were going to get the perfect job and life was going to just be smooth. It just doesn’t work that way. For some, it might, but we should all be so lucky. I didn’t buy my first house until I was 35. I got my degree a very long time ago. Most people I know that have higher education didn’t even get a job in a related field, but they sacrificed and worked a menial job just to get by. Most millennials are helpless without technology. My Mom is recently retired a few years ago. Right before she retired a college aged student, who was a millennial, came into her place of employment. The patient needed to set up a future appointment so my Mom asked her to fill out a self addressed envelope so my Mom could mail out an appointment reminder to her closer to the date of the appointment being scheduled. Needless to say this millennial didn’t even know how to put an address on an envelope. That just says it all. The problem is that you’re generation is highly addicted to technology and being online, which you consider to be socializing, which is sickening. You read it on the internet and looked it up on your smart phone so it must be true is your generation’s zeitgeist. Your writing is terrible by the way. Show a little respect to your elders and the history of this country you whiny little imbecilic sycophant.

    • Boo-hoo. You want the world handed to you. ( No we don’t, we just have to literally work twice as hard for something that your generation and the one’s before got.)I’m a Gen Xer and I would never disrespect the generations that have come before me.( But you are perfectly fine with disrespecting generations after? I doubt you are telling the truth here.) I cannot believe the ignorance of most millennials.( Ignorance of millennials? It is the older generations which are refusing to talk, just look at American Politics. Sure, the younger generation is not perfect, but at least younger people in politics tends to actually listen as long as not blatantly disrespected, for the most part.) I say most because there’s good in every generation just like there’s good and bad in every walk of life.( While true, it is only to a point. Some generations have more bad than good. Millennials tend to be in the solid middle. We have no famous serial killers, and have not gotten ourselves into wars, your generation, and those before, dragged us into it.) You need to realize that anybody that’s older than you has seen a lot more history than you have( False. Just because they are older, does not mean have have seen a lot more history. Most older people minded their own damn business and ignored the world outside of their job, and family. Just asking older generations about politics alone shows me how close-minded and simple minded they are about history, and the world, as a whole.), and they can help you learn from their mistakes. ( yeah, try not to be like them, for example.)You only need to be willing to embrace everyone.( No, embracing everyone has gotten us to where we are today in such a politically charged America. I am not going to embrace socialists, or these Antifa Terrorists. Much less, the sterotypical boomer.) It’s called listen to learn. ( I thought it was do as I say, not as I do?)Did you think that because you went to college you were going to get the perfect job and life was going to just be smooth. ( That IS How you older generations sell it to millenials, so yeah, actually. Most millenials thought just that, but your generations lie, like always.)It just doesn’t work that way. For some, it might, but we should all be so lucky.( I think the degree you choose matters personally, y’all always tell the young to go to college, never what for.) I didn’t buy my first house until I was 35.( At least you could buy a house by then. When did you move out on your own? Now THAT, is a vastly different question and answer.) I got my degree a very long time ago. Most people I know that have higher education didn’t even get a job in a related field, but they sacrificed and worked a menial job just to get by.( Got to work 2 or 3 of those menial jobs to get by now, unlesss you are from an older generation and been in the same place for decades, be it one, or more.) Most millennials are helpless without technology.( Like everyone?) My Mom is recently retired a few years ago. ( WOE IS ME! A millenial does not know how to put an address on the antiquated envelope!!! in 30 years, no one will even know what an envelope or letter is, much like writing in cursive.)The problem is that you’re generation is highly addicted to technology and being online,( which you consider to be socializing, which is sickening.( I actually agree with this one, but to be fair, the world everyone has built up to this point, is a very fine mess) You read it on the internet and looked it up on your smart phone so it must be true is your generation’s zeitgeist. ( Is someone mad because people don’t need dictionaries or books anymore?)Your writing is terrible by the way.( I completely agree with this one) Show a little respect to your elders ( Earned, not given, deal with it.)and the history of this country9Looking at politics in 2020 and the riots going on right now, laughing my head off.) you whiny little imbecilic sycophant.( Oh, name calling, what better way to prove your point, rather than repute what he actually says. Tons of logical fallacies in what you say. )

    • Millennials were born in the 80’s when the internet didn’t exist. How dumb are you?

GenX has already taken the village idiot position. I suggest you go find an island Gilligan.

      • If you say so, I won’t break your bubble. 🙂 You still would be nothing without your pc and phone anyway… Regardless of your age, lol. You’re just DHM (Disposable Human Material)

  27. I wish I could unread this garbage. I am 40. Not a Millennial or a Boomer and I am sick of all the nonsense from both.

Simple fact. The world sucks. It always has and always will. Life is hard. The strong prosper and the weak lead angry desperate lives.

You are not better than another. We are all the same. We want the same things. Some are more able to obtain the life they want and some are not. Mostly due to factors that for one reason or another are hard to control.

Were Boomers afforded some advantages due to the time they were born? Likely for many. Are millennials clueless due to being coddled their entire lives? Some are.

Bottom line. Stop being divisive, unite and learn from each other. The survival of civilization depends on it.

Lastly, to the writer. Please lean that journalism and opinion are not one in the same.

  28. You’re too young and stupid to be writing anything. Don’t you have someone to tweet or text? You justify murdering older people because you hate your self-entitled lives? You’ll get yours.

  29. Most people just need to shut up and obey those who have a superior intellectual level, that’s the harsh truth. The writer belongs to the majority, of course.

  30. I hate millennials. One of them made me ban from a community just because I used sarcasm a little. Well, his computer will soon pay for this, lol.

  31. Millenials are a first.
They are the first at this:
For many millenia growing to maturity has followed a pattern.
As a child you tend to believe that your parents are wise and know everything. You get caught in the throes of puberty and the hormones kick in and you come to believe that your folks are as dumb as rocks knowing nothing. Then for every generation I am aware of, save for this one. You grow to maturity and at some point you come to the awareness that your parents and elders may not be up to speed on all the latest tech. But they have wisdom born of age and experience. Wisdom is only gained through experience and moreso with age. And that wisdom is valuable. You have failed to mature even at 30 in some cases. And the thing about you that will destroy this county and the world is your arrogance and that you have overinflated senses of self worth self importance self accomplishment. And yes self pity too. Somehow you developed the strange notion that having tried your hardest you have accomplished something by trying. And by trying that you deserve some kind of reward. Well failure is a reward in the form of a lesson to be learned but that’s it. No paycheck for that.
You dear Millenials have knowledge in the abscence of wisdom. Nor do you seek out that wisdom.
That is gravely dangerous. And I believe that your generation is the first one at your age to step off that cliff.

      • You’re literally a waste of skin dude, like the journalist and other ageist losers. Why don’t you put your parents and grandparents out of their misery imbecile, with a hammer and bury them in the garden hey, because that’s what you’re basically wanting.
i don’t live in the US and I only come across ‘kids’ blaming the boomer generation for all their problems on the internet. i mean seriously who wishes death on family , or is it other people’s families, how convenient.
Even though I was born in 82 so to be precise Gen Y.2, you lot are not the same as me or my generation. so I’ll say most of your lot problems started with schools and participation medals for all, from sport to education, lack of competition and most of the damage was done at left wing Universities, add that to all the pointless made up degree courses and thousands in debt and there you have it, massive chip on your shoulder. You were promised if you did well at school and got a degree, you’d get a good job and a house. What my parents told me is that you’ve got to study hard and do a good degree, say math, then a Masters to get good job. From a 38 year old It worker

  32. Millenials are a first.
They are the first at this:

  33. I do not know what world millenials dream that we boomers grew up in!
We ruined the world? Really? I inherited a world with filthy air, filthy waters and contaminated soil. The river in Cleveland was so polluted it caught on fire. Raw sewage, mine and mill discharge fouled the rivers in Pitsburgh. The air was so full of soot that men would change their white shirts after going out in the street at lunch.
We led tiny lives living in tiny houses with our 3 to 6 siblings with one bath one phone one tv. No air conditioning The phone was likely a party line shared with several other families. . We drove rust bucket cars held together with wire and tape. We vacationed with relatives only the rich flew or took real trips. There was a constant threat of sudden nuclear obliteration. 5 year olds did duck and cover drills in school.
    Well dear millenials.
    We started Earth Day.
We dramatically cleaned the air the water the soil.
We started recycling not you we started to clean things up.
We also championed civil rights , the women’s movement, even gay rights movements got their seeds in our generation.
You can’t buy a house? BOO HOO Maybe instead of investing $250k in a degree in gender studies you should have gone to trade school and learned a marketable skill. When I was 23 I had a degree in electronics and made under $9000 a year working field tech for a fortune 500 company . I wanted to buy a house it cost $49000. That was more than 5x my annual salary. You had to have 20% cash down. Mortgage rates under Carter were 18 to 22% . . We still bought the house? Want a house? Save drop the things you dont need like Netflix, avocado toast, 4 dollar cups of coffee expensive gym memberships and $600 cell phones. Sacrifice. Work a 2nd job or a 3rd. Buy an 1100 sq ft house not a 3000 sq ft house YOU can buy a house at single digit rates and sometimes with no down payment. And houses in many areas are a big bargain compared to prices we faced.
My generation took a rusty filthy polluted world and shined it up considerably compared to what we got from our parents and you bitch and whine about it.
But the thing about you that will in the end ruin this country and this world is your unbridled arrogance. You over inflated sense of self worth and self accomplishment and your sense that because you try you have accomplished something.
You are in fact the first at something though. You are the first generation, to my knowledge to do the following:.
Children till they hit the throes of puberty tend to believe that their parents are wise and know everything. You hit puberty then you believe your parents are dumb as rocks and know nothing. Then for every generation past, except yours, the child matures, the hormones slow down the new adult comes to the realization that the elders may not have all the latest tech savvy but they have valuable wisdom and experience. Wisdom only comes via age and experience. You dear millenials have knowledge in the absence of wisdom nor do you seek that wisdom and that is dangerous.

    • Bravo! Those of the younger generation who are so ready to throw grandma under the bus are missing a very important point. Most Boomers worked their tails off to get where they are. Every single right they enjoy was handed to them by generations that came before. They’ve fallen for the disinformation campaign designed to divide. The wealthy control the world, not the boomers.

    • Wisdom does not necessarily come with age.

Millenials already work second and third jobs. Even living with roommates most are rent cost burdened. When they do have some extra money to save they get ~%0 interest. Low interest rates and low down payments dont help Millenials. Boomer politicians and central bankers have been pushing low interest rate policies to keep asset prices inflated to bail out boomer retirements. In most metros a 1100 sqft home is 6-8 times median household income (and in most cases that is two incomes). On top of this the job market is significantly less stable than it was decades ago.

It’s not a competition but you don’t seem to have much empathy. The problem really isn’t a smart phone plan or avocado toast.

  34. I dislike Boomers like the next guy.

Boomers raped the entire world economically and now in their 70s and “aging in” have held up the affordable housing market in the US.
Instead of moving into small apts, retirement communities or assisted living like previous generations, Boomers again care only about themselves while holding up the entire affordable housing market.

Boomers simply want to exit as they have always lived with taking much more than they ever earned and heck with leaving anything for anyone else.

Amazing that we had the “Greatest Generation” who were Gen X’s g.parents and Gen X’s parents generation will forever be known as the “Greediest Generation.”

    Enjoy the eternal flames, Boomers.

    • Eternal Flames? You, one of the “smartest generation”, still believe in fables like heaven and hell? Lol. Oh, and enjoy the Apocalypse! >:-)

    • Your ignorance is showing big time, by lumping us all together. At age 67, I do not own a house. I live on a fixed income of 800$ a month plus food-stamps. All my life, I have been a staunch activist for civil rights, equal rights, human rights, animal rights – I marched against war – protested against environmental destruction. I have done my best to live mindfully, and now, at my age, millennials compartmentalize MY life, blame ME for all their problems and diss me with the term *Boomer*. I have purposely chosen to live a simple life, because I never jumped on the so-called American Dream – it is an illusion. Why fill your life up with material wealth, and lose your soul? If you have to blame someone for the inequities, have a look at the Kardashian mentality – entitled young people who have capitalized on being shallow and making a zillion dollars off a reality tv show. This is where your sickness lies. The members of my generation who lost sight of the original beliefs, became yuppies and chose to worship the almighty dollar, are the ones I blame for the inequities in America. The epitome of what’s wrong with America is exemplified by none other than trump, in a nutshell. He is everything this country should NEVER become, and for that reason – you really should re-evaluate your opinion, and have a good look at yourself. Are you going to continue blaming the so-called *Boomers* or are you going to grow up and see the truth?

    • “Eternal Flame” is an 80s song by The Bangles, but a plebeian brat like you probably never heard of it. 🙂 Enjoy your shitty “music”.

  35. I’m not every boomer, you spoiled brats. Stop lumping me in with all. You guys dont want to be all the same bratty Millennials do you?

  36. In the USA, COVID-19 has become a “right-wing remover”. The most affected areas are the Republican States, full of ignorant and bigot Trump voters (who aren’t just boomers, fyi). Coronavirus will terminate lots of them, cause fertility issues to others and probably affect some other ones that won’t be able to vote next November. Good job Corona-chan, even if you’re such a pain in the butt.

      • NY and California are on the top of the list because they’re the most affluent zones (and there are lots of hippy anti-vax freaks in Cali) with big Asian communities. Half of NJ is a NYC suburb. Oh, and NY State is pretty conservative, fyi. There are also Florida, Texas, Georgia, Arizona, Carolina (even if North Carolina is becoming more a swing state), Louisiana. on the list… Nice attempt, Internet guy with a single letter for username, you should learn more about your country, and try to google better next time, ok?. 🙂

  37. Here in Australia we just accept people for themselves. I am a baby boomer who was a computer programmer in the eighties and nineties and got my first smart phone in 2008 a Meizu not an android since had a succession of HTC and Samsung smartphones. I prefer 80s and 90s music and started with kraftwerk then techno then rap. We can.forget we are all different as media tends to stereotype for simplicity probably. Food clothes music popular preferences come and go. Some like me pick the ones they like along the way. Others might like certian eras.

  38. Angie Dyson 1 minute ago
Ummm I don’t know I was born in 63, own an IPhone, know How to take selfie’s, have 450 posts on my Instagram, listened to Led Zeppelin Rolling Stones, Hendrix, Donovan Bob Marley I like the band Slightly Stupid, I like Sublime, I find it the group stereotypical ,the majority of my friends that were born in 63 and before are nothing like the people portrayed here…. they are the Woodstock generation we smoked weed , dropped acid , defined a generation ….so I don’t know, it seems like maybe they’re talking about maybe deep midwesterners I have no idea where they originated but on the West Coast and East Coast the boomers I know are nothing like this….btw tech jobs have contributed to housing being unaffordable stupid article….last guy can go to He$&

    • i was born in 63 too. a lot of what is being said here is news to me. why would boomers hate Greta? i don’t believe this is true. many in our generation care deeply about our planet. i could go on but i’ll leave it here. i think we don’t understand each other because we don’t talk to each other. it’s too bad. i miss the times all the generations sat around the table together and laughed together. i miss so many people who are gone. i never wished them to just die off. very sad.

      • The 1964 year cut off is actually one of several rages and I dispute it.

In that case Dr. Dre is a Baby Boomer. As is Henry Rollins. Or Ice-T. Or Sonic Youth.

Culturally 1960 is a much better cut off. It makes a huge difference in terms of world view. One could go even to 1958.

Really a good metric for boomers is they became eligible for the draft (ie turned 18) in 1964 through 1975.
They were at least 6 years old during the Kennedy assassination and remember it very clearly.

Anything after that culturally is really getting into X-er territory.

        – Urban/suburban decay.
        – Environmental disaster.
        – Collapse of faith in institutions
        – Watergate
        – Two working parents
        – Latch key households
        – Post modernism vs modernism
        – The dissolution of the New Deal

You know. All the good stuff.

        Culturally anyone who was

  39. Hate boomers. I would go as far to say that even mother nature hates boomers as we have boomer remover. I applaud the boomers not wearing masks. Good riddance.

    • Covid-19 killed young people too, fyi. And they were HEALTHY. It’s also causing fertility issues in young males… Good luck lil’boi. 🙂

    • I call the opioid crisis as “millennial remover.” The only difference is covid will eventually run it’s course. Opioid will be removing millennials for decades. Cheers!

      • Aw yeah! I’ll become a pusher, and I’ll make big money thanks to human stupidity. So I’ll be rich for my last period on this freaking world… Cheers!

        • Ok young human! Miss Famine, Mr Drought, Mrs Sickness, Lady War, Lord Pollution and Sir Global Warming are waiting for you, while boomers will be gone before that. Good luck 🙂

  40. Literally reading these comments, and all i see is a bunch of butt hurt boomers. Listen if you’re taking offense then this was meant for you literally go back to your assisted living home and let us take care of things that need to be done!!

    • you can’t wipe your own asss much less “fix” the world. You retards listen to a 13 year old mentally disabled kid with no manners or real world experience and take her words as law. Tell me again who us stupid and useless. And by the way, you’re welcome for your freedom

      From a veteran

      • Autistic and especially Asperger people aren’t always mentally retarded, and Greta Thunberg sure isn’t. Even though they come together sometimes, autism doesn’t mean “mental retardation”, so mind your words.
You’ll probably think that I’m an entitled millennial snowflake, who pretends to be autistic to be cool and edgy, but actually I’m a 40 y.o. depressed Aspie who knows how harsh life can be.
