Updates: First brick laid for Ram Temple, PM Modi says it will prove to be a bridge connecting India

Ayodhya: The bhoomi pujan (ground-breaking) ceremony for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya concluded Wednesday with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, BJP leader Uma Bharti and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat attending the function among other invitees.

Earlier, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust planned to invite 267 people, but the list was later trimmed to 162 people owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Addressing the gathering after the bhoomi pujan, Modi termed the upcoming Ram Janmabhoomi temple as a “modern symbol of our culture, eternal faith and national spirit”, and stressed on the need of “sabka saathsabka vishwas”.

PM Modi reached Ayodhya at 11:30 am and visited the Hanuman Garhi Temple before arriving at the Ram Janmabhoomi complex.

The bhoomi pujan began around noon with PM Modi laying the foundation stone of the temple at 12:40 pm.

After the completion of the ceremony, CM Adityanath and RSS chief Bhagwat also addressed the gathering.

15:23 pm: “Golden chapter in the history of India,” tweets Home Minister Amit Shah.

He says the construction of the temple is the result of centuries-long sacrifice, struggle and penance of the innumerable devotees of Lord Ram.

“Today is a historic and proud day for India. The consecration of the grand Ram temple by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Lord Ram’s birthplace has written a golden chapter in the history of great Indian culture and civilisation and heralded the beginning of a new era,” writes Shah, who is currently undergoing treatment for Covid at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram.

“The construction of the grand Ram temple demonstrates the strong and decisive leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“My heartiest congratulations to all Indians on this unforgettable day. The Modi government will always remain committed to the preservation of Indian culture and its values,” he tweets Shah.

15:10 pm: Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal says he’s proud of PM Modi who has fulfilled the dream of a Ram Mandir at Ram Janmabhoomi.

“It’s a very important day for us. People were waiting for many years for a Ram Temple at Ram Janmabhoomi. Today that dream has come true. We are proud of PM Modi who has fulfilled this dream. This temple will strengthen peace & humanity in the country,” says Sonowal, according to ANI.

14:45 pm: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, who is undergoing treatment for Covid, greets people on the occasion of the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of Ram Temple.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, many who wanted to be here could not be present. We will ensure that their participation is done in some way in the coming future, he says.

  3. These Hindus are a primitive and ugly lot – and their chai wallah says they are modern !

    Even after the temple is built, the Hindus will not be able to overcome their inferiority complex. To the rest of the world, this mixture of stone worship, gomutra, gobar and mob violence is hardly modern.
