Police have clarified that no human sacrifice took place and it’s a prank played by people in a Rajasthan village annually.

New Delhi: A video of a group of villagers marching with the severed head of a child is doing the rounds on social media. A number of people have shared it claiming it to be a case of human sacrifice that allegedly happened in a village in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district.

However, Rajasthan police have clarified that it’s a prank played by the villagers and no human sacrifice actually took place.

On Friday, three pictures were shared on a Facebook page called ‘Ambedkarvadi’, in which some villagers could be seen marching with the severed head of a child.

The post, written in Hindi, said, “Superstition has crossed all limits in a village in Bhilwara district of Rajasthan. People are marching after beheading a child”.

This post was shared by more than 1,200 users overnight.

However, in reality, no child sacrifice took place in Rajasthan. When SM Hoaxslayer contacted the Rajasthan police to verify the claim, the social media cell of Bhilwara district has clarified that the procession was part of the Navratra celebrations. It is a prank played by villagers as per their age-old customs.

“Such pranks and witchcraft are part of their tradition. These can be seen in Khakhla village in Bhilwara during Navratras,” said an officer from the Rajasthan police.

“Like every year, during Navratras people do carry out such fake processions for the sake of entertainment, and no kid was sacrificed,” the officer added.

The police also claimed that Khakhla village is known for its “magic and witchcraft”. People there play tricks like inserting a sword through the stomach, putting knives in the throat, balancing stones on the tip of a sword, among others.

Every year during the Navratra festival, people flock to Chamunda Devi temple to watch these tricks, police said.
