Later, Divya Spandana admits that information she tweeted was not true since it was an incomplete video even as the post received 1.7K retweets.

New Delhi: Congress social media and communications head Divya Spandana Monday tweeted an old video clip in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi says that he studied till high-school level. Later, she admitted that she had posted an incomplete video.

Spandana tweeted in Hindi saying, “After a lot of struggle, I found this video. This is a 1998 interview in which sahib (Modi) is himself admitting that he had studied till high school, but today he has a graduation degree that he had completed in 1979.”

The tweet had gone viral since it was posted Monday evening.

The video Spandana tweeted was made in 1998 when Modi was the general secretary of the BJP. Congress leader Rajeev Shukla, who was a journalist at that time, had interviewed Modi for his popular TV show Ru-Ba-Ru during which he asked him about his education.

In the interview, Modi said he had left his house at the age of 17 and by that time he had completed his high school education.

Spandana initially tweeted only this portion of the video. However, in the original video, Modi also added the fact that a functionary of the RSS, BJP’s ideological parent, had requested him to take external examinations. Modi followed his advice and completed his BA from Delhi University, and later he secured an MA degree via “external examinations”.

This is not the first time that questions have been raised about Modi’s educational qualification. In March, the Delhi High Court had asked Delhi University to respond to an RTI plea seeking information about candidates who completed their BA from DU in 1978, the year in which Modi also claims to have completed his BA course.

Spandana, however, later admitted that she had posted only an incomplete video, in a reply to her earlier post. But she didn’t delete her original tweet that had already received more than 1.7K retweets and was viewed more than 20,000 times.

Unlike her tweet carrying the incomplete video, the one with the correct information received only 200 retweets.
