New Delhi: Ranveer Singh is currently riding the success wave of Dhurandhar. His two-part film has re-written record books and continues to do so. However, his recent collaboration with his father-in-law and former badminton player Prakash Padukone is making headlines. On Monday, RuPay released a commercial starring the duo. And, some eagle-eyed fans were quick to notice that it allegedly took a subtle dig at YouTuber Dhruv Rathee. The commercial has been created by a small-scale advertising agency, 5W1H.
In the RuPay ad, Singh is telling Padukone how they can use the RuPay app to make payments everywhere, from toy stores, gyms to theatres. In one of the sequences, Singh and Padukone are in a theatre, and behind them is a film poster with the title Bhavandar. Fans started reading between the lines and brought back the ‘peak detailing by Aditya Dhar’ meme into play. According to them, the ‘Bhavandar’ poster was strategically placed to take a dig at Dhruv Rathee, who has criticised both Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar: The Revenge.
In his 30-minute video, posted in December last year on YouTube, Rathee took potshots at the film and even called it propaganda. In the same video, which now has over 23 million views, while explaining the plot, he gave an imaginary film with the name, Bhavandar.
Rathee also posted a video on YouTube last month on Dhurandhar: The Revenge, saying that “it is not a film made for entertainment… it is the BJP’s most expensive election advertisement, for which you pay Rs 500 to watch.”

‘Peak detailing’
Reacting to the RuPay commercial, a fan wrote, “No Dhruv Rathee was harmed.” Another said, “Dhruv Rathee ko silently roast kar diya – Bhawandar. Ranveer Singh has no cool.”
“Never mess with Hamza,” read a comment. Some even called it “peak detailing by the ad makers.”
Meanwhile, Dhurandhar: The Revenge nears four weeks at the box office. The film’s domestic collections stand at Rs 1,088.62 crore net and Rs 1,303.37 crore gross. Overall, the worldwide gross collection of the sequel now stands at Rs 1,718.62 crore.
