New Delhi: Asha Bhosle’s granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle, paid tribute to her “Ashaai” in an Instagram post, a day after the legendary singer was cremated with full state honours at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park crematorium on Monday.

Zanai described Asha Bhosle as her “partner-in-crime, best friend”.

“As I wake up this morning, I realise I have lost my partner in crime, my best friend, a person who completed my entire world and the first person to hold me when I was born.

What do I do now? Who am I supposed to wake up and give a hug to in the morning and have chai with? Who’s going to be waiting for me everyday when I come home or who am I supposed to crack lame jokes with..,” she wrote.

The video, she posted alongside the caption, captured Bhosle singing Dil Cheez Kya Hai, while Zanai and the singer break into laughter again and again. In the caption, she explained that the video was a “personal joke” between them.

Zanai urged fans and loved ones to remember Asha Bhosle for her “life and laughter,” saying she truly embodied both.

“These are just a few things to remember her by, but to all those who have felt this loss with me, remember that she was and is the definition of LIFE and LAUGHTER, so if you have to remember her only remember her that way!! She’s looking down on us all, especially her family and I believe she’s going to come back to me very soon, because that is what she promised me and told me always!!” the caption further read.

“I love you ashaai, and goodbye for now my love.. I know you are always going to be with me no matter what, just waiting for you to come back to me and hug me once again,” she added.

Overwhelmed with emotion

Several videos that went viral from Asha Bhosle’s funeral captured Zanai crying inconsolably. In one of the clips, Indian cricketer and close friend Mohammad Siraj was seen pacifying her. Last year, she had shared a video of her tying a rakhi on the cricketer’s arm.

Earlier, on her Instagram Stories, an “overwhelmed” Zanai thanked fans and well wishers for showering love and honouring her grandmother.

“So overwhelmed with emotions, I’ll write something when I can, but I have to say that there were so many people who have respected her and honoured her today and beyond it all showed her so much love,” she wrote.

Zanai had also shared a picture from the funeral procession. It showcased Asha Bhosle’s mortal remains draped in the Indian tricolor and placed on a bier decorated with flowers.

“I thank you from the bottom of my heart. She deserved every bit of it. I realise that she lives on in every one of us in our hearts forever and she has seen it all from above. Rip legend #asha tai,” she added.

Asha Bhosle passed away in Mumbai on 12 April, at the age of 92, after battling a chest infection and complications that led to multi-organ failure.
