New Delhi: Actor Anupam Kher has been honoured with a special proclamation by the State of Ohio, recognising his over four-decade journey in cinema. During the ceremony, special importance was given to Kher’s performance in the play Jaane Pehchaane Anjaane in Columbus. The actor said that he is “deeply honoured and humbled” by the recognition.
“On behalf of the State of Ohio, we are honoured and privileged to welcome Anupam Kher to Columbus, Ohio, for the live stage performance of ‘Jaane Pehchane Anjaane’ alongside acclaimed actress Swaroop Sampat,” the special proclamation read.
It further called the actor an “extraordinary international artist.”
On Instagram, Kher shared a picture of himself with the special proclamation and expressed gratitude to Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lieutenant Governor Jim Tressel for the honour.
“DEEPLY HONOURED AND HUMBLED! It is an extraordinary feeling to receive this special proclamation from the State of Ohio, recognising my journey of more than four decades in cinema and our live stage performance of “Jaane Pehchaane Anjaane” in Columbus,” he posted.
“My heartfelt gratitude to the Honourable Governor of Ohio, Mr Mike DeWine, and Lieutenant Governor Mr Jim Tressel, for this wonderful honour. I accept it with immense pride and humility,” the 71-year-old captioned the post.
Kher made his acting debut with Mahesh Bhatt’s 1984 film Saaransh. Since then, he has worked in over 100 films like Karma (1986), Tezaab (1988), Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1996), Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), among many others.
The actor said that the recognition is not just for him but also for the Indian film industry. He gave a special mention to the brilliant cast and crew of Jaane Pehchaane Anjane, whose “passion and dedication make every performance so special.”
“To be welcomed and recognised in this manner, so far away from home, is deeply moving. Thank you, Ohio, for this unforgettable honour. Jai Hind,” Kher added.
Kher was last seen in the film Tanvi The Great (2025); he is currently filming Khosla ka Ghosla 2 (2027).
