Union minister Narayan Rane’s arrest for his slap remark against Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray smacks of political vendetta. Rane’s utterance was in bad taste but his arrest is unjustified and condemnable. Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress government is increasingly showing an authoritarian streak. Thackeray must act like a CM, not as a Shiv Sainik.

National monetisation plan is a positive step that shows PM Modi’s readiness to walk his talk about the government having no business to be in business. There may be many pitfalls in realising the ambitious target but the government’s keenness to push the political economy towards privatisation must be applauded.
