The commerce ministry move to recommend restricting tax-free alcohol purchase at duty-free shops is bizarre. India has record forex reserves of $461 billion now. Tax-free alcohol costs just a few drops in that ocean. The ministry should focus on bigger goals like boosting fallen exports, instead of such regressive ideas.

BJP chief Nadda should be allowed to work independently, take party back to cadre roots

New BJP president J.P. Nadda has big shoes to fill as Amit Shah’s successor. Shah scripted a glorious chapter in BJP’s history and changed the shape of Indian politics. He should let his successor function independently. Nadda too must steer BJP away from the cult-personality era to its cadre roots.
