Temples in Karnataka disallowing Muslims from putting up stalls during festivals is regressive. BJP government’s justification that rules prohibit their auction to non-Hindus is in bad faith. It does disservice to Hindu religion. Karnataka under CM Bommai has been making news for wrong reasons. He must reset his government’s priorities.

India’s record $400 billion exports this fiscal is cause to celebrate, even if it was pushed by commodities and post-pandemic global demand. This shouldn’t be a one-off or an exception. Since it captured power, the Taliban has reimposed gender apartheid, using violence to stop women from working, accessing medical care and education. Pious Western talk about protecting global freedoms and rights means nothing if Taliban savagery remains unpunished.
