‘Same month, same scene reported’—pro-al-Qaeda outlet likens flydubai incident to 9/11, hails Omani pilot

The claims were made by al-Bayan, believed to have been launched by al-Qaeda supporters earlier this year, in an editorial uploaded on a Telegram channel sympathetic to the terror group.

New Delhi: A pro-al-Qaeda media portal has drawn a parallel between 9/11 and last week’s flydubai incident, warning of more potential attacks on planes carrying “Zionists, Americans, and all the other infidels”.

The claims were made by al-Bayan, believed to have been launched by al-Qaeda supporters earlier this year, in an editorial uploaded on a Telegram channel sympathetic to the terror group.

“Today, in the same month (30) / September / 2026 AD, a quarter of a century after the cause of the global war against Islam (11) September / 2001 AD, the same scene is repeated in the same way, but in the heart of the Islamic world… An attempt to hijack a Zionist-Emirati plane with dozens of Zionists on board, which almost caused an event that might overturn the balance of the enemies in the region,” it added.

Al-Bayan said “the war is not over yet”. “Planes carrying Zionists, Americans, and all the other infidels fighting against Islam are still hovering in the skies and can be targeted, as happened on September 11th and 30th. Even if no operation is carried out by a man zealous for his religion and motivated by the exaltation of God’s word, America and the Zionists have far more enemies today than before,” it wrote.
“Perhaps a man who does not believe in God or the Last Day will target them, and his operation will ultimately benefit Islam and Muslims, as the Prophet said,” it added.

Al-Qaeda masterminded the 9/11 attack 25 years ago. On 11 September 2001, terrorists from the group hijacked four commercial airliners and crashed two into the World Trade Center skyscraper in New York, reducing them to rubble and killing over 2,500 people. Another plane was flown into the Pentagon, while passengers of the fourth flight foiled the designs of the hijackers by overpowering them. The plane crash-landed in an open field.

Last week’s flydubai incident involved a Dubai-Tel Aviv flight mostly carrying Israelis. While in air, the flight’s Omani co-pilot attacked the pilot with alleged designs to execute a terror attack.

However, when Hamam al-Hammami attacked Smit Machchhar with the cockpit’s emergency axe, the latter fought back, and, despite being injured, managed to open the cockpit, which allowed the passengers to overpower al-Hammami and land the plane safely.

Praise for attacker

The al-Bayan editorial hailed al-Hammami for his act and said American power is set to end. Al-Qaeda, it added, would “cleanse” the Al-Aqsa Mosque (third holiest site in Islam, located in Jerusalem, Israel) from the “filth of the Jews”.

The editorial said dates like 11 September 2001 and 30 September this year “do not pass on the calendar like other days”. “They remain suspended in the memory of nations,” it added.

“Time itself pauses at them for a moment, then returns to ask: What has changed since that day?” it said.

The al-Bayan also raised the point of the United States withdrawing all forces from Iraq last week, bringing the number of troops on the ground to zero for the first time since the invasion in 2003, and said it emphasised Washington’ “failure to break the Islamic power”.

“At the same time, the US Department of Defence announces the humiliating withdrawal from Iraq, and it did not achieve its goal of breaking the power of Islam, praise be to God.”

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:

  1. Al-Qaeda is full of inhuman persons. So sickening! They are not happy that so many people were saved miraculously by an Indian Hindu pilot and the passenger jews. What do the Al-Qaeda guys want? Only destruction!!

  2. Even Al Jazeera was hurt and offended by the fact that Captain Smit managed to foil al-Hammami’s terrorist plot. Their coverage of the incident clearly shows this.
Whether they officially say it out or not, they do love and respect bin Laden and his Al-Qaeda and all the other Islamist terrorist outfits of this world.
