New Delhi: For an overwhelming majority of Pakistanis, the country’s state of economy is the biggest cause for worry. A recent survey by Gallup Pakistan has found that 53 per cent Pakistanis are worried about inflation.

Of the 1,200 Pakistanis surveyed, 8 per cent considered Kashmir an issue to be concerned about, according to the Gallup-Gilani Pakistan poll. The issue ranked third, right after inflation and unemployment, but above local matters such as water crisis, corruption and political instability.

What the survey reveals

The main question asked in the survey across all the four provinces was, ‘In your opinion, what is the biggest problem faced by Pakistan these days?’

The answer that got the maximum response was inflation, with 53 per cent of the sample size expressing concern about the state of the country’s economy.

Another factor that was cited as one of the biggest problems for Pakistanis was unemployment (23 per cent).

Four per cent of them said it was corruption that they were most concerned about.

The Gallup Pakistan poll also revealed that seven in 10 Pakistanis (72%) claim to be either very or somewhat happy with their life.

The Kashmir ‘problem’

Of the total Pakistanis surveyed, 8 per cent pointed out Kashmir is their “biggest problem”.

The findings of the survey also found 76 per cent Pakistanis are of the view that Prime Minister Imran Khan’s speech at the United Nations General Assembly would play a pivotal role in resolving the Kashmir issue with India.

The Pakistani PM scored a high rating on foreign policy issues but was rated poorly on internal issues concerning the country.
