Firstly, even convicts of crimes are deserving of sympathy at some level.
Secondly, an ‘accused’ is someone who (till he/she is an accused) is NOT guilty of anything. Anyone can ‘accuse’ anyone of anything.
Why are you holding an accused to such a low standard that he/she doesn’t even deserve our sympathy? A basic principle of natural justice is “innocent until proven guilty”. Another basic tenet is “both the parties must be heard”.
It’s pieces like these which brings to question the wonderful movement of feminism.
Everyone in the Committee chamber and millions who watched the proceedings in the US and elsewhere knows that Dr Christine Ford was speaking the truth. Which means that Judge Brett Kavanaugh was compounding his initial crime, committed as an inebriated teenager, with lying on oath to the Judiciary Committee. Finally looking a supportive Senator in the eye and swearing to God that he was innocent. To the Republicans, guilt or innocence are inconsequential. For the next 25 years, he will be our man on the Supreme Court. A solid conservative vote, as Justice Clarence Thomas – of Anita Hall fame – has been. With the scars from his confirmation process, he will be even more openly partisan. Good that our system does not involve such partisanship in the selection procedure.
