Pakistan is a South Asian country and western neighbour of India. It was created in 1947 after being partitioned from India during independence. It has longstanding border disputes with India and is currently reeling under economic and political issues.
Anybody does what he thinks best in a particular situation. So be it. Even Donald Trump critises Obama only, not further. Had BJP been in power there, they would have finished 15 terms of presidency finding faults with the predecessors. If we don’t give up the great love for past hangovers, half a century later we’d be discussing Modi’s dumping of Advani and what good Gadkari or Uma Bharati would have done, if they were the PM, not Modi. There must be a reason for Trump fulfilling quite a few of his election promises unlike our current PM.
With all if and buts , was this Indian Intelligence failure and why no one has been fired? Let alone the suspicious timing of this staged attack operation both in Iran and India at same time when Pakistan is receiving Saudi FM for multi-billion dollar investment. Who has to gain here? Something fishy here.
One of my life’s regrets is that I never read War and Peace or many other weighty tomes. At this stage, even a lengthy column overwhelms me. It is wonderful that high level intervention by US government officials on 27th February prevented a dangerous escalation. As the column notes, that luck may not hold forever. The issues – actually only one – between India and Pakistan are well known. High time for both sides to start a meaningful dialogue. A couple of “ strikes “ are not going to solve this problem.
