According to sources in the ministry, the decision to stay the implementation of department-wise reservation was taken after a meeting of NDA constituents attended by the Prime Minister Tuesday. “At the meet, it was mentioned that the department-wise appointment system will reduce the representation of SCs, STs and OBCs, which is why it was decided that the HRD ministry will instruct the UGC to roll back the decision till the time Supreme Court gives its verdict,” a source said.
