India has more than 3 lakh hectares of land under oil palm cultivation, and can support an additional 28 lakh hectares. This can significantly reduce its palm oil import burden.
In April, Indian buyers opted to cancel large amounts of palm oil purchases for the first time in many years and industry was expecting May imports could fall to 700,000 tonnes.
Share of trade with FTA partners rose from 4.6% in 2006 to 28.8% in 2024. India is currently negotiating or advancing agreements with US, Israel, GCC, Canada & Mexico.
