Donald Trump is an American businessman and politician associated with the Republican Party. He served as the 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2021. His tenure as president was known for his war of words with North Korea, a trade war with China, and his claims to build a wall to stop immigration from the south.
He is the first president to be impeached twice and one of the very few to not get an immediate second term in office. Trump started his career by joining the family business and rose to be a real estate tycoon. He then went on to host reality TV before joining politics in 2016. While he faces numerous felony counts and civil and criminal cases in US courts, the most infamous is his alleged role in the 6 January 2021 storming of Capitol Hill by his supporters, as the US Congress began the electoral vote count to confirm Joe Biden as the next President.
Same old, same old, eh? I don’t recall a time in history where Pakistan had a strong Chinese option. Seems Pakistan can be added to a growing list of countries that are finding China’s offers more attractive than their USA agreements.
The transactional nature of the relationship with the US was evident when the author fronted for the most corrupt politician in living memory of Pakistan- Mr Zardari- and struck a deal with the Americans to squeeze out General Musharraf (a US ally who had served his purpose) and let Mr Zardari come into power. While he granted air bases to the Americans to fight in Afghanistan and looked the other way when US drones were killing jihadists as well as lots of Pakistani civillians- the US returned the favour and looked the other way while he sent billions abroad. To answer the author’s question “it is difficult to recall another country that says that it acted against it’s own interest for allies”- it was not the country but a narrow band of robber barons that struck deals with the Americans. The author was part of them and now enjoys life in the US as he is sought in his native Pakistan for crimes. Please spare us the indignation!
History has proved that US is the most untrustworthy ally. They are with you as long as their interests matter and immediately look the other way when it is over. Pakistan has now learnt the lesson and will keep them at bay. Sooner or later India will also learn it too. It is prudent that nations of this region, particularly India, should try to shun their differences and live peacefully hand in hand with Russia and China.
The author himself is a real manifestation of this sick relationship,,,,,,,,a Pakistani who served in United States as Pakistan ambassador but in reality acted an American spokesman in Pakistan………accused of looting millions of dollars & providing visas to more Americans than ever…even today based in United States, declared absconder by Pakistan Supreme Court but still writing articles as a Global Statesman !!!
Pakistan helped USA many times in achieving it’s strategic and political interests in South Asia and Soviet Union. American administrations used Pakistan during the time of their needs but unfortunately in return they disappointed Pakistan. Pakistan participated in US led war in Afghanistan without any conditions and acted as frontline state against terrorists. Pakistan is the only country after Afghanistan that has suffered more due to futile American policies in the region. Pakistan is acting indiscriminately against all the terror groups. American administration disappointed Pakistan by ignoring Pakistan during its war against terrorist. We have paid more then we get from America. It has remained American history to use Pakistan to achieve its strategic objectives.
The US can’t get its ass out of Afghanistan without the help of Pakistan.
Pakistan has indeed been seriously and deliberately guilty of taking money and arms from the US, diverting them largely to help, organise and strengthen militants and terrorists against India, but all the while only pretending to be acting in the interests of the US. This deceit and duplicity, well known to the US was never called into question so openly, but it was something that India had been loudly shouting about for ages. Thus, Imran’s tantrum at this stage is only a hollow protest and he should either remedy the situation fast or completely surrender to China, as there is no one and nothing else he can turn to.
Pakistan has few friends in India, but it does not deserve to be mocked like this on Twitter by President Trump. Neither good diplomacy nor good manners. Unless the US is able to deal directly with the Taliban, they will need Pakistan’s help to exit Afghanistan gracefully.
