Fox News backs rival CNN’s lawsuit against Donald Trump

Fox News has announced its support to the lawsuit filed by rival CNN against the Donald Trump administration for suspending White House correspondent Jim Acosta’s press pass, reports New York Post.

“Fox News supports CNN in its legal effort to regain its White House reporter’s press credential,” Fox News president Jay Wallace said in a statement“Secret Service passes for working White House journalists should never be weaponised,” he added.

Fox News, a channel Trump is known to favour for its conservative leanings, had also backed CNN, which the President slams time and again, when it criticised White House communications director Bill Shine (a former top executive with CNN) for suspending a reporter from a press event after she shouted questions at Trump.

Death toll rises in California Camp Fire

The toll from the Camp Fire in the US state of California has increased to 56, reports CNNThe fire, one of two major blazes burning in the state currently, has destroyed 8,650 homes and scorched 138,000 acres in Northern California.

“We’ll be here for several years working this disaster,” Brock Long, administrator of the US Federal Emergency Management Agency.

“The infrastructure is basically a total rebuild at this point. You’re not going to be able to rebuild Paradise [where the majority of the missing are from] the way it was”, he added.

Trump is ‘pissed at damn near everyone’

US President Donald Trump is isolated and growing furious by the day, just a week after declaring victory in the midterm elections, reports CNNThe President is openly speculating about replacing members of his Cabinet, the report adds.

“Yes, he’s pissed — at damn near everyone,” a White House official said, noting that the mood in the Oval Office was “darker than normal” this week.

Trump’s friends say that he is frustrated by the election losses and troubled by special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election to help him win.

Some of his longtime confidants are also worried for his health, as he has gained weight and looks unwell, CNN reports.

Why young activists are going missing in China

Around nine young activists from China’s elite universities have been detained since August after they campaigned for greater rights and protections for ordinary workers, reports CNN.

“The whole of Peking University is like under the white terror now… [the security guards] will come after you even if you were just at the scene where the student activists were distributing leaflets,” a Peking University student was quoted as saying.

According to an open letter written by a young activist, a graduate student was attacked and dragged into a car at the Beijing university “by people in black jackets”.

A student movement, led by activists who call themselves Marxists and campaigning for greater workers’ rights, has become a growing problem for the Chinese government in recent years. Under President Xi Jinping, Beijing has cracked down on all forms of protest.
