Govt could face hurdles in passing citizenship bill in Rajya Sabha, but it faces a split opposition —Congress is against it and Trinamool may abstain, while NCP, SP are yet to finalise stand.
The BJP took a swipe at the Shiv Sena-Congress-NCP coalition, and alleged there was a "huge unrest" among legislators of all the three alliance partners.
As per the power-sharing formula of the Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress government, the post of deputy chief minister goes to NCP, while Congress gets the Assembly Speaker's post.

CAB must be seen in the light of (1) the basis on which the sub continent was divided in 1947 (2) Nehru Liaquat pact (3) its unilateral and shameful breach by Pakistan and (4) inaction of India on such blatant breach. It is merely fulfilment of one of the unfinished agenda of partition.
CAB is fundamentally unconstitutional… to the extent of mocking the preamble of the constitution. It is not about follower which religion is excluded….it is about religious profiling of the citizenship seekers. Any progressive country at the most if at all indulge in profiling of citizenship seekers… they do it on how they are capable in contributing for growth of the nation. We the citizens of this country are emotional fools who can be simply carried away from real national issues by indulging in cheap divisive tactics.
CAB is inconsistent with the Constitution as it stands. If the entire Constitution, along with its Basic Features, is amended, that is a different issue. So it is good that the Congress, along with some regional parties, is taking a principled stand on this issue. There remains the process of judicial review.
