New Delhi: Anvay Dravid and Aaryavir Sehwag, the sons of cricket legends Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag, have been selected in India’s Under-19 squad for the series against Australia on home soil starting on 18 September. The series—three One-Day matches and two Multi-Day fixtures—will be played across two venues.
While three One-Day matches and one Multi-Day fixture will be played in Rajkot, the other fixture will be held in Ahmedabad. The BCCI Men’s Selection Committee announced India’s U-19 squad for the series on Thursday.
Before being selected for the series against Australia, both Anvay and Aaryavir delivered strong performances in domestic youth and junior tournaments.
Anvay proved his mettle on the international junior stage by scoring a vital 87 runs off 67 balls (including nine fours and a six) during India’s U-19 Tour of Sri Lanka in July. He captained the Karnataka Under-19 team in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy and led his side to the quarter-finals. He finished as the team’s second-highest run-scorer with 220 runs in six innings.
In 2025, Aaryavir smashed a monumental 297 runs off just 309 balls for Delhi against Meghalaya. Showing an aggressive style reminiscent of his father, the knock featured 51 boundaries and 3 sixes. Before his national team selection, he grabbed attention for hitting four boundaries for the West Delhi Lions. The shots resembled his father’s signature square drives.
‘Like father, like son’
Social media users have termed the duo’s selection as a ‘like father, like son’ moment.
“If the children of Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag don’t make the cut, then who will? Like their fathers, they are players who combine explosiveness with patience, and they are set to feature in the U-19 World Cup in the future. Both have earned their spots through spectacular performances; no one could attribute this to nepotism or clout,” an X user posted.
Another X user said that a big name doesn’t guarantee a spot in the national team; a person has to perform.
“If Aryavir Sehwag and Anvay Dravid have earned their selection through their game, then they should get full opportunity and support. The real answer comes from the field itself,” he had posted.
Meanwhile, several social media users argued that the iconic cricketing duo is back on the pitch, but with a twist—Gen Z style.
“Sehwag and Dravid are officially back in the Indian jersey together, Gen-Z style,” a X user posted.
Another user said that the next generation of the Indian cricket team has arrived.
“Two legendary surnames, two young talents, and now a chance to create their own legacy. Sehwag & Dravid 2.0 loading,” he had posted.
