New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the state of the economy, rise in COVID-19 cases and “external aggression” at borders, alleging that India is reeling under “Modi-made disasters”.

His attack comes after official data showed on Monday that the country’s economy suffered its worst slump on record in April-June, with the gross domestic product (GDP) contracting by 23.9 per cent as the coronavirus-related lockdown weighed on the already declining consumer demand and investment.

“India is reeling under Modi-made disasters: 1. Historic GDP reduction -23.9% 2. Highest Unemployment in 45 yrs 3. 12 Crs job loss 4. Centre not paying states their GST dues 5. Globally highest COVID-19 daily cases and deaths 6. External aggression at our borders (sic),” Gandhi tweeted.

Rebutting Gandhi’s attack in a video earlier this week on the state of the economy, the BJP had mocked him saying he should release a video about the “G-23”, a reference to the 23 leaders who wrote to the Congress chief seeking the party’s overhaul.

Chief Economic Adviser K V Subramanian has said the economy was “experiencing a V-shaped recovery” after the lockdown was eased.

  1. Whatever the commentators may say 2 things cannot be denied.
    1. Our economy has seen the sharpest contraction amongst all major economies.
    2. We have the largest number of new infections since 7 Aug.
You can attack the messenger, but truth in the message cannot be wished away.

    • Well said Mr/Ms NM !

The problem with Modi bhakths is that even when the actions of the Great Gujarathi Delhi University graduate are the cause of immeasurable harm for the country, they will never accept his decisions were deeply flawed. One saw this when the Great Gujarathi decided to ignore the advice of trained economists like Dr Raghuram Rajan, Arvind Subramanian etc. and went on with his harebrained scheme called demonetisation. The informal sector of the Indian economy which employs 82% of the labour force came to a standstill, lives and livelihoods were lost, the GDP came tumbling down and yet members of the Modi cult welcomed the Messiah’s self-goal !

In fact, reading some of the comments below from the likes of people like Messrs. Vikram Arora, Pankaj, Kasiviswanathan Krishnan and so on, one wonders whether these gentlemen have lost their ability to think critically and look at data and facts rather than hype and headlines generated by the BJP IT Cell. Indeed, even when Modi himself realised that demonetisation was a big blunder and dodged responsibility for his actions by talking of counterfeit notes, decrease in terrorism, decrease in black money etc. people willingly swallowed every bit of his rubbish ! Finally, when the heat was too much, the Great Gujarathi fled the scene leaving to flunkies like Nirmala Sitharman, Arun Jaitley (RIP) etc. to defend his egregious mistake. All along, bhakths were happy to regurgitate his pathetic messages which made no economic sense.

      As Voltaire said:

“It is difficult to free fools from the chains they revere”

  2. There a pattern. when ever there is increased border skirmish with China — This SHALV – ( a character of Mahabharata ) like character of 2020 starts his attack on Modi ji more furiously . Some one of his advisors , if they have read the Mahabharata , should inform him what happened to Shukni and Shalv . Both of them met their destined end and the dynasty they were defending was eliminated for all time to come. Indian History , as opposed to history propagated by the JNU walas , rich with such instances.

  3. Doesn’t matter. India ia a Hindu cult led by Maharishi Mahesh MODI. The Hindutva members of the cult believe everything Modi says about the economy, yoga and cow urine to fight covid, India’s loss of land to China, India shooting down 200 F16s, etc.
The crazy Hindu mobs will support Modi as long as he suppresses Muslims and maintains Hindu supremacy just as Trump will be supported by Christians and white supremacists as long as he maintains their supremacy in the US.

  4. Yaar, kyun khamakhan ool-julool bol rahe ho.
Covid cases are because of population and crowding in Indian cities/ villages..
GDP is down because of global downturn in economy due to Covid again.
Chinese are at border because during your 10 year rule from 2004 to 2014, you never built border roads and infrastructure, citing paucity of funds, but existing funds were open for loot. Ex. Augusta VVIP planes..

    Now just shut up.

  5. why can’t this man shut up for some time at least when the country is going through difficult times. if he has any solutions let him offer. he is becoming a nuisance value.. he should stop this every day personal attack on the prime minister.

    • Mr Kasiviswanathan Krishnan: Is there some astrologically calculated auspicious moment when people are allowed to criticise your Lord Murugan – I mean Lord Modi ? Perhaps you could use your talents in pseudosciences to inform the world about the appropriate “rahu kalams” and “ketu kalams” or other cosmic and astrological considerations to talk about your Gujarathi Lord Murugan.

      Romba Thanks Saar !

  6. Are you talking about the whole world or talking foolish. Every point you speak is applicable to every country in the world. There is not a nation which has not suffered the impact of Covid Pandemic. Every country has suffered losses due to it. India is no exception.

  7. As is expected by now, this Gandhi demonstrates yet again that he has no idea what he is talking about.
    “Congress President”.
