New Delhi: The seven Delhi MPs, all from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), fared the best among states with their average attendance in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha, said a new report on the performance of Lower House MPs.

The Delhi MPs, on an average, attended 289 sittings of the 16th Lok Sabha’s 312 against a national average of 221, said the report by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch (NEW).

Nagaland fared the worst among states, with its two MPs recording an average attendance of 88 sittings.

BJP’s Bhairon Prasad Mishra, MP from Banda in Uttar Pradesh, was the only leader who attended all Lok Sabha sittings, said the ADR and NEW report.

Among political parties, two MPs from Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) managed the highest average attendance at 264 sittings. The least average attendance was recorded by two MPs from the Shillong-based National People’s Party (NPP) — an average of 85 sittings.

The report also revealed that the outgoing Lok Sabha turned out to be productive, with 88 per cent of the 273 introduced bills passed, and only 8 per cent pending. A total of 4 per cent bills were withdrawn.

The Lok Sabha’s strength is 545 seats and there are currently 523 sitting members.
However, the latest report studied 562 MPs, including ex-members (those who resigned or died, or those who came in their place) and the two Anglo-Indian nominated members of the Lok Sabha.
