New Delhi: Breaking his silence on Maharastra logjam, BJP president and Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said that no one objected when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and he publicly said that Devendra Fadnavis would be the Chief Minister if the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance wins the Assembly polls in Maharashtra.

Speaking to ANI exclusively here today, Shah, when asked to comment on the collapse of the alliance in Maharashtra, said: “Before elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and I said many times in public that if our alliance wins, then Devendra Fadnavis will be the CM. No one objected back then. Now they have come up with new demands which are not acceptable to us.” In reply to another question related to the time given for the formation of government in the state, Shah said: “Before this, in no state was so much time given. 18 days were given. The Governor invited parties only after the Assembly’s tenure ended. Neither Shiv Sena nor Congress-NCP staked claim and neither we. Even if today any party has numbers, it can approach the Governor.”

  1. With the benefit of hindsight, there was no reason to wait for the life of the Assembly to expire. Once the votes were counted, the government was formally reduced to caretaker status. Within a day or so, the Governor could have let it be known to all four important parties that the constitutional process was on. This was all the more necessary because it was soon obvious that the winning coalition had developed serious cracks. Had the process of consultations started early, the somewhat abrupt 24 hour deadlines could have been avoided.

    • Governor is doing constitutional duty or formality. All are seasoned politician including NCP & SG.
Who are you talking to? Both NCP and Congress new that BJP and SENA were not getting along. SENA is nothing but trouble maker all along for any partnership. NCP declared that they had mandate to sit in opposition, so why they want to be in government with SENA against whom both Congress and NCP fought election? If these three instead of BJP comes to power with SENA CM will see what happens to ideology and local municipal elected bodies?

      • Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress have a common ideology viz. that political parties must be the exclusive domain of a single family. All top party posts must be reserved for family members and non-family members must remain courtiers.
