Only reason why Narendra Modi will return in 2019 is Rahul Gandhi

The Congress president is not even trying to win the next Lok Sabha elections.

In a one-to-one war, neither side has to be the world’s best army. Both could be uninspiring. The better one will win.

When you think of the world’s best cricket teams, you will not think of Bangladesh. Yet, in a match with Zimbabwe, Bangladesh will win easily. You don’t have to be the best team, you only need to be better than your rival.

Going into the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is not the best team. But it appears to be better than the Congress.

‘Koi bhi chalega

For many of the nearly 21 per cent religious minorities, and a handful of left-liberals, “anybody” may be better than Modi/BJP and, therefore, Rahul Gandhi is acceptable. “Koi bhi chalega,” is what you’ll hear from them. Anybody will do.

We’ve seen this movie before: they wanted ‘anybody but Modi’ in 2014, just as liberals in the US wanted ‘anybody but Trump’.

The problem with ‘anybody but Trump’ was that it didn’t mean “Hillary would be a great president”. Similarly, even those who say ‘anybody but Modi’ are not heard saying ‘Rahul Gandhi would make a great prime minister’.

In four years since his party dropped to a historic low, Rahul Gandhi has not been able to convince voters that he has a vision for the people of the country. Gandhi and his party have failed to persuade voters that they can deliver good governance. In the last four years, the Congress has not been able to defeat the BJP in any major election, whereas the regional parties have shown some ability to do that.

‘Aur hai kaun?’

Three words are often heard these days in defence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Aur hai kaun?” or “Who’s the alternative?”

Mind you, this line comes from Modi’s supporters, not his critics.

If taken at face value, the question reflects a desire for a better alternative that is missing. Rahul Gandhi has clearly failed to be that alternative.

If taken as rhetoric, the question “Aur hain kaun?” is at least an acknowledgement that Narendra Modi has not delivered the Achhe Din, the good days he promised in 2014.

Modi today is not half as strong as 2014, when he could say anything and get away with it. His outlandish claims, the impossible dreams he showed, made him sound like just the man people needed. Such was the faith he inspired that calling him feku didn’t work.

Modi could occupy such a position not only because he was campaigning against the worst government in recent memory, UPA-2, but also because he had sold the story of his achievements in Gujarat.

Today, however, Modi is much diminished since 2014. He does not have the advantage of being the challenger to an unpopular government. He is facing, at the very least, anti-incumbency. He is so short of achievements to sell that he has to attack the Congress as if the Congress was still in power.

From foreign policy to farmers, from jobs to GST, he is looking weak on all fronts.

A Right to Information query has revealed the Ganga is more polluted now than it was in 2014, when Modi had made tall promises of cleaning up the river.

The bullet train project he promised has just about kicked off with the commissioning of its first bridge. His party has alienated Dalits, and big businesses crib in private. Which section of society exactly is happy with him?

In the face of such criticism, the Modi supporter’s last answer is ‘Aur hai kaun?

Not even trying

There have been countless protests by farmers across the country in the last few years, some of which have been mobilised by Left-linked farmers’ associations. Farmers’ discontent, and not the Patel agitation, was why the BJP was routed in rural Gujarat.

If India had a real opposition, we would have seen a large farmers’ protest in Delhi bringing the government to its knees, like the Lokpal movement did to UPA-2 in 2011. If instead of Gandhi we had a real opposition leader, he would have collected farmers’ leaders from across the country and sat on an indefinite hunger strike at the Ramlila Maidan.

Instead, Gandhi goes here and there, especially during state elections, addresses farmers and then runs off to Europe. He gave one speech in Mandsaur about farmers’ rights and then he was off to London or wherever. Had he been agitating for farmers and not holidaying in Europe in June, he would have been able to take credit for the Modi government’s increase in the minimum support prices.

The Congress party’s eminent lawyers saved the day in Karnataka but instead of overseeing the formation of a smooth coalition cabinet, Gandhi was abroad. He gave an iftar party but forgot to invite opposition leaders. He said Coca-Cola emerged from shikanji and reminded people of his ‘Pappu’ image.

Under his leadership, his party organised a midnight protest against the Kathua and Unnao rape cases. The protest was so badly organised that Priyanka Gandhi lost her cool at people who were pushing and shoving around. Gandhi can’t even organise a protest at India Gate properly. Can he really run the country?

Organising a good protest and a politically astute iftar, or making a good speech needs advance planning. The only thing Gandhi plans well is his Europe holidays.

Four and a half months after the Congress Working Committee was dissolved, Gandhi hasn’t been able to create a new one. It’s the party’s highest decision-making body.

It’s been nearly 10 months since the Bihar Congress has not had a chief (there is an acting head). Can you imagine the BJP leaving such a crucial state, or any state, faceless for months?

What role is Gandhi playing in UP? What is his intervention in the ongoing political churning in Bihar? What is he doing about addressing the Gehlot versus Pilot factionalism in Rajasthan?

In at least 200 Lok Sabha seats, there will be a direct contest between the BJP and the Congress. This is where the BJP will see its best performance, as it did in 2014.

Modi may be looking like a poor shadow of his 2014 self, but Gandhi is not even trying to defeat him.

Gandhi thinks power will fall in his lap whenever people are bored with the BJP. If that happens in 2024 or 2029, so be it. Why should he try hard?

  1. The author is a frustrated left liberal who will always try to denigrates Modi. There is a saying A BAD WORKMAN ALWAYS FIND FAULTS WITH HIS TOOLS. Ahthor should try to analyse what Modi achieved in various fields in such a short time with AN OPEN MIND. His current article is short sighted and definitely not acceptable.

  2. There’s no doubt Modi has greatly flopped. What he has given to countrymen ? Jumla, tall talk, flouting constitution of the country, autocracy, demolition of judiciary, starving non BJP ruled states, casteism, gai politics, falsification of facts & series of frauds- Rs.20000/cr.gujrat petro scam ,
RS.150000/cr.scam Raffaele scam,Vyapam scam,RS.36000/-cr.rice scam, Vasundhara scam, RS.7000 cr.cash deposit in Ahmedabad coop.Bk connected to Amit shah- all these bear testimony to Modi’s bad governance.

  3. Absolutely ….I don’t want to vote for BJP because of their bad behavior with Muslims but I am not going to vote for Congress either …. because of their poor leadership. Country is more important than these guys ……and 1 last thing Muslim can only be empower if our country empower as a whole ….

  4. Lets have debate between both the leaders at live tv and then decide who’s going to be the reason for who’s defeat. Can Modi accept live debate with Rahul Gandhi?

  5. Unless and until the so called GOP break up the shackles of the Nehru-Gandhi Dynasty, which has linked with the Italian Mafia, there is no scope for the revival of Congress Party, in the near future.

  6. Shame on the writer he is arrogant n trying to be ignorant of all misdeeds of congress pappu n his family. If u still don’t feel crop insurance, jan dhan accounts, free LPG
Connection , n many other such projects will not get MODI n BJP votes than GOD SAVE US. N people who commenting what modi dis in last 4 years are colour blind . Have a chill pill cause AAYEGA TO MODI HI

  7. We need to weigh the pros and cons from both angle.
Yes, in democratic set up we need to have a strong alternate to question ruling party of it’s mistakes and blunders.
Aur koan? definitely make a sensible question. Of course, people of Republic of India will think many times before voting to party/it’s leader, who will be the PM candidate, if it win. Rahul or other opposition parties’ stelwarts don’t look to qualify to be a PM.
There was definitely some hope in AAP in 2012/14. But that was knocked down and this party is reduced to an ant and lost it’s shining because of pappu no.2 at the helm. It has become an one man army and dictatorial type of party. Many able, famous and influential members have left AAP because of senseless people managing the party. It has lost it’s opportunity to become a national party, in direct contest with Congress or BJP.
When modi moved to capital from a state, there was speculation about managing the whole nation as against a state. That’s true. The last 4 years was run with ups n downs, success n failures and it is a great learning. We need to appreciate one thing that, he could have ruled with criticalities put under the carpet, but he took serious risk on GST and demonetisation. GST is a major role out with almost Rs.1.5 trillion revenue generation and someday or other one need to take a risk to roll out it. It will stabilize in next 2 years.
Lastly, he definitely need to do appraisal of his people n ministers around, keeping in mind of people suggestions and sentiments. Picking up n recruiting top brains directly from outside is in the right direction

    • Gentleman, please keep in mind the stark reality and truth that in India’s Politics there is no qualification that weighs or matters !
It is only the numbers game which is of paramount significance !
Very ignorantly without thinking for a moment, you have said that Rahul Gandhi or any other opposition leader does not qualify to be the Prime Minister ! Where is the article or clause in the constitution which stipulates what you have said ?

In 2014, there were far more talented and well qualified leaders like Mr.Lal Krishan Advani,Dr.Murli Manohar Joshi, Mr.Yashwant Sinha, Mr.Shanta Kumar and Mr. Shatrughan Sinha and so on in BJP than Narendra Modi !

Modi exploited the numbers game in his favour sidelining selfishly the top senior leadership of BJP harping on ploys, rhetorics, lies and tall fictitious promises !

I ask you very simple questions , ” Are you in favour of mob lynching of innocent people”? What are the gains of Demonetisation ?
Do you approve of Mr. Jayant Sinha Minister in NaMo Cabinet garlanding convicts involved in lynching incidents released on bail ?
Do you believe in blind following sans applying your mind?
Just Think and then answer !

  8. But now all the opposition parties are aware that they must put up a united fight.otherwise they would loose at the very beginning itself. And so all is not. There is chance and hope.Let us wait and see.

  9. How he prepares for the elections is his headache and why he goes abroad is his business. He is answerable to no one. This topic had great potential for insights, but a poorly ideated reasoning given for the opposition’s current predicament might just make this opinion piece heavily biased. Again seems like one of those trojan articles seemingly talking about where the govt seems to go wrong but ending up bashing the opposition at the end.

  10. I still wonder Abu those critising MODI. I ask them forget modi what they have done in previous 4 years towards well being of the country?

  11. Alas? Writer is so ignorant about India progress and government excellent performance during 4 year.
Article written to tarnish image of Modi.

  12. Hand symbol of Congress has done enough damage and stands for the 60+years of Haath Ki Safaai. There is no Punch in coming together of opposition parties because the hand symbol is an open palm for greasing and not a fist to fight. Your article rightly points out Congressees chief is no PM stuff.Modi is not only a leader world has taken note of but India as a country has been catapulted to world centre stage by our PM.Hats off to him.

  13. I will first make it clear that I am not a devotee of Narendra modi.
I am just not satisfied with the way you have framed the article. It is because, it is modi’s goverment who have many beneficial actions for the citizens in contrast to the UPA 2 government.
As I expect that you will know more
then me but i think you are not aware of the works and initiatives BJP government taken to rejuvenate the indian pride.
And saying that modi is not as strong as 2014 but in my opinion he is 10 times more stronger than what he was in 2014.

  14. If Mr Modiji really want to achieve his success in India, only one job need to be done,Take only one decision, All politician and their family wealth is Govt property, take decision at cabinet level and seize whole wealth of all Indian politicians, as he himself and his family have no wealth, second is all politician former and current and their all family and relative can use only facility which was used by poors of India, BPL family, all wealth can made debt free india within a month and if they use Govt state bus and railway general class and indria or rajiv aawas, then this change can, truly change india within few month, its really dramatically change attitude of people of India.

  15. Congress hand symbol has done enough of Haath Ki Saffai of the country. Why there is no Punch in opposition unity for 2019 hustings against Modi is the Congressees open palm symbolising open loot of so many years and not a closed fist to give a fitting alternative.Oppositions tug of war rope has Knots too many.Congressees imposed their chief on the nation and your article aptly says he is NO PM stuff .

  16. A balanced article. Well written.
    Modi has way with words.
    No doubt he is performer.
He sold more than he can produce.
Being new to governing country and not judging the entrenched establishment he has fallen short of promises made.
People highlight what you have not done which is fair.
What he has achieved till now will make him complete his promises.
    Interesting times

  17. The report is poorly drafted. Anyway you are asking why Pappu )Cannot call him Gandhi which he doesn’t have any relation,? It was Ferosh Gandi which become Gandhi due to mistake by Gandhiji) don’t try? How can he try there is something called Capability

  18. For starters, Rahul Gandhi’s speech prowess has improved a lot since 2014. Yes, he keeps making an occasional gaffe but he’s a far mature politician today than in the past. The way he campaigned in Gujarat is a testimony to his capability for hard work. It did yield positive results. BJP was reduced to a less than triple digit number in a state which is Modi’s bastion.

Also, Rahul’s campaigns is what won Congress 78 seats in the Karnataka elections. Without him they would have been reduce to a number like 55-56.

Rahul doesn’t need to do the groundwork like forge coalitions or entertain allies. There are competent Congress leaders who are up to the task. Rahul unlike Modi greatly believes in delegating responsibilities. That is the smart way to run things. So what if he goes for vacations abroad? He’s doing it on his own dime. Everyone deserves a vacation after weeks and months of hard work. The chaiwalla takes vacations twice a month anyway.

Rahul doesn’t have to be a chatur bania like Amit Shah to help Congress win this elections. The anti-incumbency against Modi is pretty serious. He will not last in a head to head campaign. I think he would want to go for an honorable exit and not run the next elections for BJP.

Congress will definitely win far more than the 44 seats it did last time (which is 48 now, considering all the bye-poll wins which can be traced to Rahul’s leadership). Even if Congress sails past 130 or 140, it will be able to form the next government with coalition partners. As it did during UPA-1 with only 145 seats!

NDA under Modi if they fall 10-15 seats short of 272 will never be able to form the government (but still be a powerful opposition). The reason is other politicians HATE Modi. They will not give him another chance. See the bickering of Shiv Sena and other allies. Modi is stealing the bread and butter of other politicians. Supporting him in future is suicide for them. In contrast, Rahul enjoys vast support among allies including Akhilesh, Tejashwi Yadav, Kumaraswamy, Sharad Yadav, Sharad Pawar. Even Mamta Banerjee will eventually fall in line and support Rahul for PM.

The United Opposition already has a target of 400+ seats for next Lok Sabha. It will be a powerful stable government with Congress at its help. Yes, allied leaders such as Mamta Banerjee and Mayawati will also get very important posts such as home minister or defence. There will be fewer Congress party leaders in the cabinet.

Modi is already packing his “jhola” and flee – maybe to his brother Nirav and Lalit Modi in London. Amit Shah will flee to America.

    • Well said. Time will say. We have definitely got an idiotic pm who keeps chanting about the opposition, always. All his speech are dramatic, full of lies, a failure pm and yet he won’t accept it. Unfortunate.

  19. For liberals the word Hindu is bad. So they will keep cribbing. So let’s take a pledge to bring Modi as PM again in 2019.

  20. Prof PK Sharma, Freelance Journalist, Barnala (Punjab)

The article is hypothetical ! At this stage, it is too early to go in for any premonition !
Even then, the author is quite up to the mark for analysing things as they stand now.

The NaMo magic unlike 2014 is no where to be found !
The manipulated rally at Jaipur on July, 07 addressed by NaMo was lacklustre as the
PM had not anything new and exceptional to project ! One really fails to understand
on the one hand, he had been talking of Congress Mukt Bharat very often but why can
not he forget Congress any moment ? Why is he so haunted by the party which he had
been dreaming of making Bharat(India) free ? Needless to recall, the failures of NaMo
on manifold fronts whether at home or abroad. The media too did not at all attach any
importance to this event deeming it as a routine affair.

Then over to perusal of Rahul Gandhi’s performance in the role of healthy and constructive
opposition ! The author sans any doubt has very aptly found Rahul Gandhi wanting in this
role. Given the scenario and circumstances, Rahul can strive at this juncture leaving no
stone unturned to steal the show !

Sheer opposing NaMo is not going to take him to the desired goal but his party has not
come out with pro-public policies and programmes as an alternative to NaMo’s rhetorics,
ploys and lies in the arena in the run up to 2019 Lok Sabha Polls.

Time no doubt is on its wings and Congress Party must keep pace with it otherwise time
spares none ! Going infact will not be a child’s play in Marathon-that is 2019 !
Post May,15 Karnataka Assembly Poll results like smart, agile and timely strategy indeed
is the key to the desired results in Grand Final of 2019 !

    Prof PK Sharma, Freelance Journalist

    • This is what almost all Congress sponsored fake journalists have been claiming. You have every right to criticize Modi but he is the only option for India in 2019 and 2024.

  21. In 2004 everybody thought that amiable vajpayee will win but see happened.
We don’t know who is going to be PM in 2019.like gowda or gujral who ran the govt ,may emerge.modi cannot be the only fit to rule

  22. Hallow Shivamji, what a novel way you have found to canvas for a failed p m for 2019 elections. That you are trying to find trivial faults in Gandhi. Is it a fault of Gandhi going abroad accompanying his ailing mother,Soniaji, for her treatment

  23. Theory of development holding up against mathematics of vote banks of caste, religion, region is definitely an impossible task.. Moreover a relatively honest and working government is a new thing in the Indian context to be voted again by such diverse groups.

  24. It’s good to see liberals’ mounting frustration and desperation. NDTV anchors also try very hard to get Congress to do something. They defend the indefensible. But, Pappu and chamchas don’t have it in them. Modi is here to stay, and he is doing a great job. Some BJP ministers do embarrass the govt. and liberals think it is enough to highlight hot-heads and they will win. You do live in a world that exists only in your heads. There’s no alternative to Modi, no political leader even comes close. When it’s a question of running the country, you need a man. Mute-Mohan Singh lacked a spine. Hillary would have been a complete disaster – just like that dandy Justin Trudaeu.

  25. I am not a big bjp supporter, but the work that modi has don Uttar pradesh, especially up west where i come frn, is really great. There us 20 hrs electricity nd 24 hrs water man. It used to took us 6 hrs to reach dekhi but it only takes 3 and a half hrs evenwhen merrut delhi expresssway isn’t completed yet. Once it’s done then it’ll only take 2.5 hrs. Just imagine. Modi saved our 4 hrs each way. And the toad r amazing. So u r just a hater ana no party worked this mich ever before.

  26. We must distinguish between promises and achievements..if promises were the criterion then Indira Gandhi promised to garibi hatao in the seventies..or BJP promised the Mandir..
So it is achievements..here I feel that the achievements made by this Government are not clear to people partially because they are ignorant and partially because of well planned counter narrative..
But be it stability in the cabinet so no expansions or representations and dissidents and willing…or firm dealing on Pakistan the GST demonetzation infrastructure firm measures have been taken. No corruption either. I will be glad to clarify this to Print. This is a development oriented govt. India will be foolish to lose this.

  27. If Pappu has the credentials to face Modi, let him contest against Modi direct in the General Elections 2019 anywhere of his choice & pose a challenge to Modi. He has stopped in the last 4 years only to criticise Modi thro’ prerit ten scripts of his party goons instead of contributing excellent ideas for better governance. Let me when Pappu had exhibited his talent as a true politician in the past. Modi & BJP will be winning the GE 2019 with thumping majority giving the Tukada opposition a run including Congress.

  28. Yeah man. U r absolutely correct. I am a RG fan but he is not even trying neither forward a vision for india.

  29. Forget Rahul why not other opposition parties create strong leader who can challenge modi In 2014 modi got 30 p.c.vote till win because opposition were divided In 2019 he will do his best to divide opposition unity Opposition parties not united because of their leader`s ego every wanted t be P.M Advantages to Modi his charming oratory devoted rss workers help Shah`s tactics discipline in party

  30. After demonetisationlarge heaps of scrapped notes are being caught on a daily basis. Even assuming the official of money in circulation came into banks the seized scrapped notes are the parallel economy of genuine notes descended from security printing pressses under RBI. May be some one at the level of guv.with the lead role of UPA might be in the background. Therefore demonetitration apart curbing circulation of money among separatist leaders weeded out parallel currency to a major extent. GST brought down prices in metros on aboutique 71 categories of items. Earlier traders were collecting sales/vat but not remitting to govt. Now every one has to register. Vat, outgoing, central excise were subsumed bringing in reduced prices. If there was no support GST could havery been scrapped. Lot of infrastructure is in place. Several people obtained mudra scheme and this is much more than the emploentire creation
    Employment does not mean govt
Jobs only. If congress had created jobs durinh its rule there would.not have any demand for employment. Unlike upa there are scan2yayula the govt.pulled

  31. When cat drinks milk in the stealing mode it closes eyes and think that nobody is watching. — Cat knows congress is already down but acts as if still cong is the main opponent, where as the fact is that a mahaghatbandhan is standing right in front of it…. and cat knows it but closes the eyes and continue drinking milk…..

  32. first it seems u hv nt got this quarter instalment frm 10 JP,whn n whatever u talk abt PAPPU ,it may be fair bt ur assumptions on @narendramodi is nt quite fair,he hs delivered what a PM cld deliver in his first tenture,in which most of time passes in understanding n correcting the system, his all populist work fr poor r wholhearedly supported n liked by poors, frm JANDHAN ,LPG ,ELECTRIC POWER ,LED ,HOUSING ,CROP n LIFE INSURANCE AT NOMNAL RATES,SWACHH BHARAT ,LOW COST MEDICINE n like many of them, above all PM n PARTY PREZ always in election mode ,communicating with public on daily basis,cn u show a single example of past PM or PARTY PREZ ,so criss crossing country, n always in touch with der party paersons n general public ,they r nt enjoying any political position on personel basis,u may said failure of foreign policy ,bt our dispora ,my freinds n relative in every continent highly impressed by MODIS influence on der GOV there

  33. Modi simply destroyed the Economy and Ecosystem of the country. Now a days there are more riots and religious haterates, as compared prior to 2014.
BJP is not only dividing the country on basis of religion, but even within religion. They have escalated the definition of ‘ divide and rule’ to a new height.
Rupee is at all time low.
Petrol, diesel, gas price are sky high.
    Unemployment.
    Corruption.
And then there’s Modi and BJP organising multi crore meets, foreign trips and all luxurious campaigns.

    • If you think India before 2014 was a peaceful paradise then you need to open your damn eyes. Riots were a commonplace all over India in the past decades. Even Gujurat had multiple riots. If anything it was because of Modi that Gujurat has not seen any riots at all ever since 2002. He completely stopped that nonsense from happening.

As for petrol prices, check on the data from 2004 till now. You’ll see that in Modi’s 4 years, the prices have remained within the 67-69₹ mark with a difference of about 4₹ at most meanwhile before 2014, in 10 years of Congress and Manmohan, it went from 31₹ to 67₹, a jump of almost 35₹ rupees! In just 10 years!
These are hard facts. Open your eyes and just take a look around for real.

  34. People who are not arm chair critics know very well that if any big change has to be done, four years is hardly enough. People are practical and understand it very well. But the hate Modi gang hyper active on blogs, TV debates et el keep criticising him. However these matter little to the masses. Yes they may dent his image but surely not put him down.

  35. What u have said is exactly correct. There is no correct opponent to modi, in the national level. I’m from Ap.i know very well modi cheats people.

  36. ‘Jetsetting around the world’…. All Modi haters have a few jumlas like this. Why dont they study/RTI and find out the outcome of each of his foreign visits. No scams, Coal, Power , Road transport n highway Ministries doing well. Can’t they see a single thing done well by Modi? Nothing beats this question….Aur hai kaun ?

  37. Modi is killing every single minority in India, e.g. what is happening in Jammu and Kashmir, Army on government’s order killing innocent people who are not Terrorist, just because they are muslim.

  38. Rubbish! Was Modi the Chief Minister of Gujarat till he resigned to fight for Prime Ministership, Rahul Gandhi? Stop these unresearched stupid articles.

  39. No. Establishment Liberals in the US wanted Hillary and put its full machinery behind her. So did the Democratic Party. And she did try to beat Trump. Trump won because of the electoral college. Not the same at all.

  40. This article is more of a show of desperation from one of the “few left liberals” than any actual assessment of Modi govt. based on facts. I always here farmer distress, foreign policy failure etc etc. Tell me if Modi gives higher MSP then this bunch of people have a problem and if not then they will shout from the rooftop Modi is anti-farmer this and that. Fact is Mr. Shivam Vij aka Diilidurust Modi has raised the performance level of governance so high that previous Manmohan and this joker Pappu does not even come near. So take a chill pill and give the so called ides that you are trying to give to this so-called pathetic opposition that we have in India , which will not think twice to break the country into language, region and caste and community without any second thought. You very smartly say bullet train work just get started. At first, tell me who had the idea to start it and get such a huge project going Modi. So keep your frustration to yourself and take a chill pill because Modi ain’t going anywhere for next 10 years.

  41. A not very flattering portrait of the head of the main opposition party. In numbers in Parliament, it is barely ahead of the Aiadmk – which will flip to DMK next year – and the TMC, whose head makes no secret of her prime ministerial ambitions and is a battle hardened veteran. Anti incumbency in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh is hot enough to fry an egg on. Serious planning for both these elections should have been on in right earnest. Pilot vs Gehlot, Nath vs Scindia – my vote in both cases is for generational change – this issue has to be resolved, although it will cause a lot of heartburn. Tying up with Mayawatiji is important, to get the extra 5% votes that could seal the issue. What if the general election is preponed ? Getting Maharashtra ready for the Parliament and assembly elections, for which an in principle decision has been made to ally with the NCP. Keeping an eye on UP and Bihar where the Congress itself is a bit player but the entire general election will be decided. A serious politician would have been grabbing a sandwich on the go.

  42. Your basic premise is wrong. It would be a contest between Modi and Rahul. Indians would vote for the best available group to rule for next 5 years. It is equivalent to world cup, not Bangladesh vs. Zimbabwe.

  43. Modi is pale shadow of him of 2014? His achievements are simply great. Don’t shadow it with a few misjudgements and faulty executions. Common voters understand it well. No one wants the scamsters back again. The other like Mamata are simply horrible. Rahul or no Rahul, there is no challenge for Modi in 2019. A few voting on caste and Muslims and Christian voters will not matter. Modi Govt’s move to remind the people of the benefits gained by them ‘as a right’ is a good move. It’ll sure work.

    • Only idiots like you will still put a blindfold over your eyes and keep supporting a habitual liar/offender like Modi. What acheevement have you seen in 4 years of Modi’s regime? Bad mouthing previous governments works only for the first year. The next 4 years are for working and not for jetsetting around the world. But why does Modi have to work? All he has to do is continue his baseless rhetoric and morons like you will continue to vote for him.

      • Going by what you saying. None of the governments before (majority of which was formed by con-gress) have achieved anything. 70 years after freedom we still have highest poverty, a country divided by castes and politics, lack of basic infrastructure, etc. Countries that got freedom around the same time are much farther ahead in economic development.
So tell me why should I vote for Congress which has barely managed to keep this country afloat and it’s pockets full all this time.
I know Modi talks a lot. He wants people to dream big and at the same time glorifies his dreams and achievements. He may not achieve them all. But I’ll give him extra marks for trying.
What is congress upto. All they talk about is opposing what Modi wants to do or say. What are their dreams for this country. And if they do have dreams and plans for this country what were they doing for so long.
To be honest I can only judge a country’s performance on economic development and not on majority minority issues, or caste issues. And when it comes to that congress gets no marks for what it has done in last 70 years.
So may be I want to give this guy a new chance. May be he talks a lot but if he can do half of what he talks about, he will be much better then any governments till date.
And it’s not just Modi, I believe today BJP has one of the best intellectuals heading various ministries and departmens who mean work and if their leader can push them, am sure this government will do wonders.
BTW just a reminder, running a big country like India, changing things at all the levels, requires time. You can’t judge a government in 5 years for benefits that will accrue later on for the work they are doing today. (Congress reaped benefits of infrastructure work started by Vajpayee in early 2000’s)
Everyone wants spontaneous action. Like the author questioned bullet train. This country is not China where you can throw people anywhere build a road or train over that. No more explaining!
Lastly to all the haters and lovers of the government/BJP, analyze and judge yourself of the performance and not what other political parties want you to see and judge accordingly. You are educated and there’s more on your shoulders then on those poor souls who just fight for a meal and a glass of water a day. Cause your wrong decision might just cost this country it’s future.
Please don’t play into that hands of politics and vote for the person who can SHOW this country direction and can do his best for it. If Rahul can do it, he will have my vote, if Modi will continue doing it, then he will.

        • People who wants Modi to change India in four years, should change their mental attitude first. Can Modi eradicate corruption if people do not change. Can Modi alone change the life style of people if people refuse to change. At least there are no scams for the past four years. That itself is a great acheivement. People talk about GST and demonitisation as a failure. I do not say they are a great success. But there are not complete failures even as most opposition parties say. People who wants Modi to be out should answer what have we acheived in past 70 years and who is the next alternative.

      • Hang on to your fickle opinion and you will not be able to stop the truth from prevailing. If you have to call your PM a habitual liar then it is clear where you belong. Hate mongers will no stop Modi. Till date India has not seen a PM working so hard to deliver. But people like you are so habituated of slavery that you dont even know what it will be like to be a citizen of a nation where people live with pride. You would love a govt who will loot and let you take a small bite, turning the population of this blessed land into destitutes. But you will see Modi back in 2019.

      • Mr P, We do not like have a Lotaa in hand for toilet behind the Congress house Maidan, The Dynast and British style Party which even not provide toilet and cleanliness in 70 yrs , who fool will again to lose the vote for these pidis again after suffering of 70 yrs?

    • Whatever is governed is best. For Rahul party is to pass time and to satisfy his false ego.His status is less than of leaders of splinter groups with no skill of a *TEAM LEADER*.Thanks
