The best Indian cartoons of the day, chosen by editors at ThePrint.

The selected cartoons appeared first in other publications, either in print or online or on social media and are credited appropriately.

The lead cartoon by Satish Acharya in Sify celebrates Dinesh Karthik’s thrilling innings against Bangladesh to win India the Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka Sunday. Karthik scored 29 of just eight balls to take India to victory. Acharya depicts the wicketkeeper as Lord Kartikeya and shows that his carrier, the peacock, has killed the Bangladesh cricket team’s celebratory ‘nagin‘, or snake, dance.

Karna in Dinamalar shows a befuddled Narendra Modi wondering why the opposition, which never seems to find common ground on anything else, only united to propose a no-confidence motion against the BJP in Parliament.

Many cartoonists dealt with the Congress’ 84th plenary. Manjul in his cartoon for Firstpost depicts how the tables have turned for Narendra Modi and former prime minister Manmohan Singh, who was once called the ‘silent PM’.

In his cartoon in Hindi, cartoonist Irfan deals with AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal’s apologies to those he criticised earlier. While Kejriwal’s apology to former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia split the party’s Punjab unit, an official has a suggestion to placate those upset by it.

Union Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan claimed at the Indian Science Congress that cosmologist Stephen Hawking had “emphatically said that on record that our Vedas might have a theory which is superior to Einstein’s theory of E=mc2.” Cartoonist Hemant Morparia takes a dig at Vardhan’s ludicrous statement that has since been sourced to a fake Facebook account bearing the physicist’s name.
