New Delhi: A woman who purportedly used expletives against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Gen Z protests at Jantar Mantar has been booked, with the FIR stating her remarks “hurt the dignity of the constitutional post”, and were intended to disturb public peace.
This comes days after several social media handles were served notices by the Delhi Police for sharing “derogatory, malicious and defamatory content targeting constitutional heads.”
The instant FIR pertains to a video that recently went viral on social media, where the woman was seen making “derogatory comments” against Prime Minister Modi. She also drags Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s name. The video was widely shared across social media platforms.
The zero FIR was filed at the Expressway Police Station in Noida on 29 July by Supreme Court advocate Smriti Singh Chandel under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 352 (intentional insults meant to provoke a breach of the public peace), 353(1) (making statements intended to cause officers, soldiers, sailors, or airmen in the Indian Army, Navy, or Air Force to mutiny or fail in their duties), and 356(1) (defamation).
“It is respectfully requested that on 23/7/2026, I received information that the Ruchika had gathered at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi and publicly used abusive and objectionable language against the Honorable Prime Minister of India…” the complainant says in the FIR.
“The said act has not only hurt the dignity of the constitutional post, (but) this act is a symbol of deliberate intention to spread hatred and disturb public peace…” she says.
A Uttar Pradesh police officer said the zero FIR was registered by Noida Police. “However, it has been transferred to Delhi Police now, since the matter pertains to the Jantar Mantar protest, and comes under Delhi Police’s jurisdiction,” the officer said.

This FIR comes days after several social media handles were issued notices by the Delhi Police for allegedly sharing the said video. Special Cell’s Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit issued notices to X, directing it to remove or disable access to identified posts and preserve all related electronic records for investigation, ThePrint had reported earlier.
“After review of content uploaded during and after the protest, police are issuing notices to remove such posts which are abusive in nature,” a police source had said, maintaining that it is a routine exercise. “This is a routine and continuous process. We take down objectionable, illegal content.”
The notice had been issued to X handles Rajat Ranjan, Vigilant Hindutva, Jaipur Dialogues, Saffron Chargers, Alpkanya, Deepika Bhardwaj, Besura Taansane, Pritamkrbauddh, and Practical Spy.

Ms. Samridhi Tewari, am really surprised by your choice of words and your narrative setting reportage on the issue. Did you not see the video for yourself? Did you not see and hear the girl abusing Modi – uttering absolute filth at him? Could you not hear her derogatory and crass comments on the armed forces?
If you did, then why do you use the word ‘purportedly’? Why does your reportage seem to make light of the issue and suggest that ‘the Ruchika’ was not at fault and should not be booked?
