New Delhi: In a heartwarming gesture, fans of the IPL team Delhi Capitals took to the streets to feed dogs in the national capital earlier this week on Valentine’s Day.

The dog feeding drive was carried out by the official fan community of the team called ‘DC Toli’ on 14 February, in collaboration with Kvaab Welfare Foundation — a Delhi-based independent organisation dedicated to the welfare of street dogs.

The drive was undertaken in central and south Delhi including places like Kalkaji, Jawaharlal Nehru Metro Station, Sanchar Bhawan, Dak Bhawan, Air India Office, International Yoga Centre, Baird Lane, Panchkuyia Furniture Market, Nehru Place, Kalkaji Mandir Metro Station, Ram Piyau Mandir Marg, and NSIC Ground.

More than 400 street dogs were fed 120 kg of chicken khidchri, 40 kg kibbles, 10 litres of chicken broth and 10 kg of kennel kitchen chicken and vegetarian wet food.

This is the second annual drive undertaken by the DC Toli, which was formed last year. In 2020, the fan community also fed dogs on match days.

Delhi Capitals is one of the eight founding teams that plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The team is co-owned by the GMR Group and the JSW Group.

Delhi Capitals was established in 2008 as the Delhi Daredevils but was renamed in December 2018. Shreyas Iyer captains the team while former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting is the coach.

In last year’s IPL edition, Delhi Capitals reached the finals for the first time but lost to Mumbai Indians.
