New Delhi: The 20-year-old was assaulted on the stairs of her apartment, by one Ravi Solanki, who has been arrested.

Reports said the perpetrator allegedly shot a video of the young woman on 7 July when she was in her boyfriend’s car. He was following them on his bike.

After the boyfriend dropped her off at her apartment in Prashant Vihar, Solanki went in and found the girl on the stairs. He said he was a policeman and threatened to post the video online. He then raped her on the spot.

The woman confided in her boyfriend and the couple reported the attack to the police.

The cops caught Solanki with the help of CCTV footage and a sketch the woman had helped them make.

The police called it a “blind case” as the attacker was not known to the woman.

Crime against women is rampant in the national capital, begging the question – according to Delhi women’s body chief Swati Maliwal – whether anybody was safe in the city.

After the brutal murder of a teenager by her jilted lover in May, Maliwal had said: “It is the reality today that nobody is scared in Delhi – the country’s capital. People think they can do anything with a woman or a girl and the system would not act against them.”

She said the commission received 2,000 complaints per day since the death of Anjali – a woman hit and dragged to death by a car on 1 January. “There are six rapes in Delhi every day… Crime has touched an all-time high. This is no time for politics,” Maliwal added.
